We can confirm that the trustees have given due regard to all guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit. ## **Additional details of objectives and activities (Optional information)** You **may choose** to include further statements, where relevant, about: - policy on grantmaking; - policy programme related investment; - contribution made by volunteers. **TAR** 3 ## Section D Achievements and performance **Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year** Panda Preschool Playgroup CIO is reporting for the first time although it was previously an unincorporated body with the same trustees, known as Panda Playgroup. The children, staff and trustees have remained the same but during the year there has been an update to the constitution to reflect the new status; and reregistration with both the Charity Commission and Ofsted. Panda Preschool CIO and Sticky Mitts pride themselves in having been an intrinsic part of the village community for over 40 years, with staff, trustees and other volunteers supporting village events such as the Village Carnival and Christmas Grotto. This academic year 2024-2025 started quietly for the preschool but gradually over the year more children joined the sessions and, others increased their hours of attendance. A generous staff to child ratio ensured that groups remained small and each child’s own interests were developed within an exciting and varied learning environment. All the children also enjoyed a wide range of outside opportunities, including outings to the library, the park and walks around the village. Extracurricular experiences included animal visits, forest school, music, science and railway including an outing on the bus to the Railway Museum in York. The knowledge, dedication and care from the staff ensured all the children thrived and those who transferred to school at the end of the year were well prepared for the next step in their learning journey. The income at Panda Playgroup is dependent on the number of children attending, whilst the major outgoings are related to staff salaries and rent. It should be noted that government contributions do not fully cover these ever-rising costs, so it is fortunate that a dedicated and hardworking Fundraising and Grants team of volunteers and staff was able to raise a considerable amount of money through Grant bids and a variety of fundraising activities. Successful grant bids provided funding for both statutory and Makaton training for staff. the use of Makaton has become embedded and has proved to be of particular benefit to the youngest children (from 18 months) and those experiencing speech and language difficulties. It also enabled us to rent a hall and continue to offer the Sticky Mitts Stay and Play sessions for two mornings per week. These were well received by children, parents and other carers, noticeably more of which are grandparents. The sessions provide a welcome social opportunity for all but also act as a self-support group to help alleviate the social isolation that can be experienced by many new parents and carers.
