Summary of the main
activities undertaken for the
public benefit in relation to
these objects (include within
this section the statutory
declaration that trustees have
had regard to the guidance
issued by the Charity
Commission on public
benefit)
The trustees have referred to the guidance contained in the Charity
Commission's general guidance on public benefit when reviewing the
charity's aims and objectives and in planning its future activities. In
particular, the trustees consider how planned activities will contribute to
the aims and objectives that have been set.
The public can access our services through our Jolly Days that are held
at different community venues in Dorset. These give our guests the
opportunities to participate in creative activities such as theatre, music,
art, photography, yoga and singing. We do this because we know that
being creative, staying active and connected to others helps slow down
the cognitive and physical decline associated with dementia and other
illnesses.
Loneliness and isolation are injurious to people’s mental and physical
health. This is why we are providing opportunities for people to come
together and have fun and in some cases share a meal together.
We also provide outdoor activities at our Step Outside allotment group at
Kingston Lacy. Jolly Days and Step Outside are open to all and are
dementia friendly. Guests and their families also receive support from our
staff and volunteers, an opportunity to make friends and stay connected
and get support from their peers. We also signpost to other relevant
services available in the County (e.g. Carers’ Support)

Section D Achievements and performance

Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year

In Jolly Good Company changed from being a CIC to a CIO in February 2025. The CIO was originally set up in July 2024, but activities did not transfer from the CIC until February 2025. This report covers the period of 01.07.2024 to 31.01.2025. Whilst operating as the CIC, we were able to offer seamless and yearround activity and support to our 150 direct beneficiaries and 50 indirect beneficiaries per month (friends, family and carers). All of our groups have grown in size this year – with many becoming full and needing waiting lists. Support beyond our groups takes the form of signposting to additional services. For example, if we see that a Carer is struggling, we will put them in touch with Carers’ Support Dorset. We have a very strong volunteer team of 26 people and a small dynamic staff team of one full time person and two part time.

We are preparing our first photographic exhibition, celebrating the creativity of our guests and helping to make them valued by and visible in society and to get their seldom heard voices heard.
