Helios REF works to address energy poverty in Sri Lanka and Nepal using renewable technologies, in particular solar PV. Our trustees all work pro bono, use our technical skills gained from having run a solar design & installation company for 20 years to alleviate poverty in accordance with the guidance on public benefit issued by the Charity Commission, Section 4 of the Charities Act 2011.
Key activities include :
Survey projects that can improve education and health outcomes using affordable energy and with reference to UN SDG’s. Prioritise as far as possible the most needy. See our list of projects in Section D.

There are a number of administrative tasks such as fundraising, website maintenance, newsletters, training e.g. trustees recently attended a Cranfield Trust training session on the New Governance Code.

## Section D Achievements and performance
Installation of a 5.5kWp solar PV system to power a water filtration plant **Summary of the main** in the North Central Province of Sri Lanka. This area has an 80% **achievements of the charity** incidence of chronic kidney disease caused in large part from impurities **during the year** from fertilisers and pesticides. This was undertaken to determine the feasibility of such projects & was completely funded by trustees in June 2024.
Installation of 3 x 5kWp solar PV systems on 3 schools in the Eastern Province of Sri Lanka. This is a community of rural Tamil and Sinhalese people. The schools are ill equipped, lacking in basic lighting, clean water, toilet facilities, computing & internet facilities to enable them to address the curriculum requirements. Access to abundant ‘free’ clean energy can alleviate many of these issues. Currently in Sri Lanka there is also a payment for energy exported to the grid which can further improve these facilities.
Established a pipeline of projects in Sri Lanka and have initiated our 1[st] project in Nepal to be completed in the next financial year.

## **INDEPENDENT EXAMINER'S REPORT ON THE ACCOUNTS**
Report to the trustees/members of HELIOS RENEWABLE ENERGY FOUNDATION (charity number: 1208862) on the accounts for the 9 months period ending 05th of April 2025.
## **RESPECTIVE RESPONSIBILITIES OF TRUSTEES AND EXAMINER**
The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year (under section 144 (2) of the Charities Act 2011) and that an independent examination is needed. It is my responsibility to:
- examine the accounts (under section 145 of the 2011 Act),
- to follow the procedures laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 145(5)(b) of the 2011 Act), and
- to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
## **BASIS OF INDEPENDENT EXAMINER'S STATEMENT**
My examination was carried out in accordance with General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the organisation and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanations from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a 'true and fair view' and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.
## **INDEPENDENT EXAMINER'S STATEMENT**
In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention
1. which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in, any material respect, the trustees have not met the requirements to ensure that:
- proper accounting records are kept (in accordance with section 130 of the Act); and ● accounts are prepared which agree with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the Act; or
2. to which, in my opinion, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
