## **Governance and management**
Bridgnorth Community Garden project is a registered charity as a CIO (Charitable Incorporated Organisation charity number 1208827) managed by a committee under the constitution agreed by the Charity Commission on 1[st] July 2025
The committee currently consists of 5 members and regular meetings are held and the minutes sent out to all the members. Committee members are elected at the AGM.
## **Aims and objectives**
Our principal aim is the advancement of community development through creating community spaces with volunteers, where people can work together to grow food and establish wildlife friendly gardens.
- a) To promote the positive benefits that community gardens have including:
- benefitting individuals’ mental and physical health
- bringing communities together.
- b). To encourage people to adopt greener and healthier lifestyles
c). To educate about food production and the natural environment.
d) To facilitate the exchange and development of ideas and skills between members and volunteers.
e). To promote the sustainable values of BCGP to a wider community.
f). To enhance well-being through the shared endeavour and enjoyment of gardening as well as providing a green space for the benefit of others.
## **Summary of the main achievements during the period**
Bridgnorth Community Garden Project have had 3 main areas during the year. The mobile gardeners have carried on improving sites around Bridgnorth mostly managed by Bridgnorth Town Council. During the year they have worked on areas around the town and improved them with more shrubs and trees as well as flowers, fruit bushes and vegetables. They are very visible with their distinctive yellow t shirts and Love Bridgnorth set up a Just Giving page before Christmas to provide coffee and cake for all the gardeners to say thank you for all the work they do to improve the town.
The community garden at Hazledine was opened in July 2024 and as a group we have continued to support the town council with some of the maintenance. The mobile group help to maintain the flower beds at the front of the garden and trim the overgrown flowers from the paths and rose beds. The 4 raised beds at the back of the garden were planted up with broad beans last year and now have a range of fruit and vegetables. We have also had 3 very successful sessions with school children from St Johns RC Primary school helping them to plant peas, investigate how compost is made and look at what plants need for healthy growth.
Our main gardening focus has been at St James Hall Church where we have now developed the whole area around the hall. The raised beds at the rear of the hall were finished in late Autumn and the fruit trees have been trained along wires for easy access. We had a successful Home Composting event in October, run by Shropshire Master Composters, which was well attended. We also had an open day during the Easter holidays where a few local residents came along to see the site and 2 families learnt how to plant peas. The aim is to continue to develop the site as a community garden, with the help of local residents, and provide fresh produce for users of the hall and residents. We are becoming well-known through our Facebook posts and members of the local community and visitors to the hall are now beginning to harvest some of the produce.

## **1. Receipts & payments accounts**

The grant from the Quatt Church choir event has been put towards buying bulbs, compost and plants for the gardens around Bridgnorth maintained by the mobile gardeners. ( We also returned £727.70 of the NGS grant as we came in under budget)
## **3. Committee members’ remuneration**
_During this period, a total of £365.09 was reimbursed to 4 committee members for expenses incurred replacing worn tools used for the raised beds, buying seeds, compost, signs, bulbs and petrol._
