This reporting period marks the charity’s first year operating as a registered charity following its transition from a Community Interest Company (CIC) in June 2024. During this time, the charity has remained focused on delivering its core purpose: providing books and storytelling resources to children undergoing cancer treatment and other serious medical conditions in hospitals across the UK.
Summary of the main activities undertaken for the public benefit in relation to these objects (include within this section the statutory declaration that trustees have had regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit)
The charity’s activities have centred on sourcing and distributing highquality, age-appropriate books to healthcare settings, ensuring that children and their families have access to comforting and engaging resources during hospital stays. We have continued to work closely with hospital teams and partner organisations to ensure that donations are appropriate, timely, and responsive to patient needs.
A key area of activity this year has been the development of partnerships with organisations and healthcare providers, enabling the charity to extend its reach and embed its support within clinical environments. Alongside this, the charity has undertaken fundraising and awareness initiatives to support its ongoing work and ensure sustainability.
All activities undertaken during this period have been carried out for the public benefit. The trustees have had due regard to the guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit when planning and delivering the charity’s activities and are satisfied that these activities further the charity’s charitable purposes.
Additional details of objectives and activities (Optional information)
You may choose to include further statements, where relevant, about:
The charity is entirely run by its founder and co-founder, who volunteer their time to manage all aspects of its work. This includes sourcing, preparing, and personally distributing books to hospitals and partner organisations. Their hands-on involvement ensures that resources are carefully selected and delivered with care, maximising the charity’s impact while keeping operational costs to a minimum. The contribution of volunteer time is central to the charity’s ability to achieve its objectives and provide meaningful support to children and families.

Section D Achievements and performance
Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year
During its first year as a registered charity, the organisation has achieved several important milestones that have strengthened both its impact and future sustainability.
A significant achievement has been the successful distribution of a large volume of books to children in hospitals and healthcare settings across the UK, directly supporting children and families during challenging periods of treatment and recovery. The charity has also received consistently positive feedback from healthcare professionals and families, evidencing the meaningful difference these resources make to patient wellbeing.
The charity played a key role in supporting the Spread a Smile Intensive Care Libraries initiative by supplying all books for the programme. This has enabled children in intensive care to access comforting and engaging reading materials at their bedside, extending the charity’s reach to some of the most vulnerable patients.
In addition, the charity has strengthened its operational foundations during its first year as a registered charity, building new partnerships and increasing awareness of its work within both healthcare and supporter communities.
To support long-term sustainability, the charity has also subscribed to Run for Charity, providing access to organised fundraising events and streamlining the process of securing race places. This initiative is expected to generate a more consistent and reliable income stream through sponsored participation, supporting the charity’s future growth and impact.
Collectively, these achievements represent a strong first year as a registered charity, laying the groundwork for continued expansion and increased public benefit in the years ahead.

Section E Financial review
Brief statement of the charity’s policy on reserves
The charity aims to maintain a modest level of reserves sufficient to ensure the continuity of its activities and to meet any short-term unforeseen expenditure. As a small charity in its first year of operation, reserves are currently limited, with the majority of funds applied directly to delivering charitable activities. The trustees will continue to review the reserves position regularly, with the intention of building an appropriate level of reserves over time to support sustainability while maximising funds available for public benefit.
Details of any funds materially in deficit
None
Further financial review details (Optional information)
You may choose to include additional information, where relevant about:
-
the charity’s principal sources of funds (including any fundraising);
-
how expenditure has supported the key objectives of the charity;
-
investment policy and objectives including any ethical investment policy adopted.
The charity’s principal sources of funds during the year have been voluntary donations, community fundraising, and supporter-led initiatives. This has included individual giving, small-scale fundraising events, and the establishment of new income streams such as the charity’s subscription to Run for Charity, which will support ongoing fundraising through sponsored challenge events.
Expenditure during the year has been directed primarily towards the purchase and distribution of books, ensuring that the maximum proportion of funds is applied directly to achieving the charity’s core objective of supporting children in hospitals. Additional costs have been kept to a minimum and relate only to essential operational and administrative needs required to deliver the charity’s activities effectively.
The charity does not currently hold significant investments. Any available funds are held in cash to ensure accessibility for day-to-day operations. The trustees will continue to review this position as the charity grows and may consider appropriate, low-risk and ethical investment options in the future, where it is in the best interests of the charity and supports its longterm sustainability.
