Bethel Baptist Church (London)
Trustees' Annual Report for the Period Ended 31 July 2025
The trustees present their report and the financial statements of Bethel Baptist Church (London) for the period ended 31 July 2025. The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the Charities Statement of Recommended Practice (Charities SORP (FRS 102)) and the Financial Reporting Standard 102 (FRS 102). The financial Statements are drawn up on the historical cost basis of accounting.
Structure, Governance, and Management
Bethel Baptist Church (London) is a registered charity under Reference Number 1208814. The management and governance of the church are embodied in their Statement of Beliefs and Practices, and the governing body is the board of trustees which is composed of four members whose responsibilities involve the daily administration of the church to ensure its compliance with United Kingdom legislation, and who meet quarterly to discuss matters regarding the fellowship. The pastor and 3 deacons provide guidance and advice regarding spiritual matters as and when applicable and necessary.
Objectives and Activities
The object of this charity is to advance the Christian faith for the public benefit in accordance with its Statement of Beliefs and Practices, to be implemented in Wimbledon and, by extension, to other parts of the United Kingdom and the world at large.
During the period ending 31 July 2025, the charity had been engaged in the following activities:
-
Holding a busy schedule of public worship services and undertakings open to all members of the public to provide for the spiritual needs of the local and wider community - There were five regular weekly meetings, the majority of which were made available online to serve those who were not able to personally come to the meetings, and when the venue where the fellowship met was inaccessible.
-
Focusing on the provision of spiritual and moral guidance from the King James Version of The Holy Bible and encouraging the practical application of such guidance through prayer, preaching and fellowship as well as providing pastoral care for its members.
-
Managing the church website where messages that have been delivered at the services, literature that can be printed for distribution, and other materials can be made freely available on the internet for the wider public.
Achievements and Performance
The trustees have confirmed their compliance to the obligation specified in Section 17(5) of the Charities Act 2011 to duly observe the general guidance from the Charity Commission regarding the provision of public benefit as well as the specific guidance regarding the advancement of religion in that the benefit must be identifiable and directed toward the parties listed by the charity, which is virtually everyone.
The church has continued to develop in line with its objectives to provide a place where sound and wholesome Biblical instruction and application can be found, for which the spiritual needs of individuals and families have been freely satisfied. It has witnessed a modest increase in on-site attendance as well as the commitment of a few believers to publicly express their faith in Jesus Christ through baptism, and the charity continues to make its presence known both locally and globally through the available avenues.

Statement of Trustees' Responsibilities
The law relating to charities requires the trustees to submit corresponding statements at the end of each financial year, which give a true and fair view of the charity’s monetary situation, including transactions that have been made as well as the resulting surplus or deficit amounts during this period. In preparing these statements, the trustees are required to:
-
select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently.
-
make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent.
-
state whether applicable accounting standards have been followed.
-
prepare the financial statements on the going concern unless it is inappropriate to presume that the charity will continue in business.
The trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the charity and enable them to ensure that the statements comply with the Charities Act 2011. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the charity as well as taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities.
Signed on behalf of the trustees on 29 May 2026.

Independent Examiner's Report on the Unaudited Financial Statements to the Trustees of Bethel Baptist Church (London)
I report on the financial statements for the period ended 31 July 2025 as set out on pages 6 to 9.
Respective Responsibilities of the Trustees and Examiner
The charity's trustees consider that an audit is not required for the year (under section 144(2) of the Charities Act 2011 (the Act)) and that an independent examination is needed.
It is my responsibility to:
-
examine the accounts (under section 145 of the Act),
-
to follow procedures laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners (under section 145(5)(b) of the Act), and
-
to state whether certain matters have come to my attention.
Basis of the Independent Examiner's Report
My examination was carried out in accordance with the General Directions given by the Charity Commission. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts and seeking explanations from the Trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit. Consequently, no opinion is given as to whether the accounts present a 'true and fair' view and the report is limited to those matters set out in the statement below.
Independent Examiner's Statement
During my examination, I confirm that nothing has come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:
-
a) accounting records were not kept in respect of the Assembly as required by section 130 of the Act; or
-
b) the accounts do not accord with those records; or
-
c) the accounts do not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the format and contents of the accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Report) Regulations 2008; or
-
d) the accounts have not been prepared in accordance with the methods and principles of Accounting and Reporting by Charities; Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable to the United Kingdom (FRS 102).
