## **Trustees’ Annual Report**

## **Charity Name: ONE VOICE (CORNWALL)**

## **Financial Year Covered: 19 JUNE 2024 – 5 AUGUST 2025**

## **Charity Objectives:**

" THE OBJECT OF THE CIO IS: (A) TO ADVANCE, IMPROVE, DEVELOP AND MAINTAIN PUBLIC EDUCATION IN, AND APPRECIATION OF, THE ART AND SCIENCE OF MUSIC IN ALL ITS ASPECTS BY ANY MEANS THE TRUSTEES SEE FIT, INCLUDING THROUGH THE PRESENTATION OF PUBLIC CONCERTS. (B) TO ASSIST AND SUPPORT SUCH CHARITABLE INSTITUTIONS FOR PURPOSES AS THE TRUSTEES SHALL FROM TIME TO TIME DETERMINE.

## **Summary of Activities This Year:**

- Our CEO/Choir master delivered over 100 hours of singing workshops and rehearsals for three separate choirs. We took the choirs out in the community to showcase what we do and to recruit new members and performed for the public on 9 separate occasions.

- We put on a gala performance of the choirs for the paying public to showcase what we had achieved and recruit new members, enlightening them on the benefits to mental health of singing to the members themselves and to the public. It also served as a fundraising event.

- We had received funds prior to formal registration which were held in the separate bank account in the name ONE VOICE and were for the sole purpose of supporting the CIO’s charitable objectives, these were brought into the charity following registration and are accounted for in the minutes.

## **Financial Review:**

During the charity’s first financial period, from 19 June 2024 to 5 April 2025, One Voice (Cornwall) received a total income of **£16,301.21** .

Income was generated from the following activities:

- **Gala event ticket sales** totalling **£6,890.02** . Some funds relating to the July 2025 Gala were received prior to incorporation and therefore do not appear in these accounts, but are clearly recorded in the charity’s financial records and bank statements.

- **Fundraising by choir members** in connection with the Gala event raised **£2,051.91** .

- **Ladies Day Rugby Fundraising Event** :

The charity participated in a new fundraising activity during the year, attending a Ladies Day rugby match at the Cornwall Pirates. Choir members

raised funds through the auction of player-worn rugby shirts, generating **£6,367.00** for the charity.

The total income of **£16,301.21** , together with an **opening balance of £3,698.10** , was used to meet the charity’s liabilities. These included outstanding costs relating to the **2023 and 2024 Gala events** , and a **one-off professional fee of £5,107.43** paid to Tibbsy Communications for the development of the charity’s website and marketing materials. This was a non-recurring cost and will not be incurred in future years.

During the year, the Trustees also approved an **ex-gratia payment** in recognition of the significant voluntary contribution made by the choir director across the 2023 and 2024 years. The Trustees formally recorded in meeting minutes that the choir director has contributed substantial unpaid time and effort to the operation and development of the choirs and the charity. The Trustees considered this payment to be appropriate and in the best interests of the charity.

In this first year of incorporation, the Trustees focused on establishing the charity’s structure, supporting the formation of new choirs, and delivering the charity’s core objective of improving mental health through singing. While no grants or donations were made to other charities during this accounting period, the Trustees plan to make such donations in the coming months.

The charity has gathered evidence demonstrating the positive impact of choir participation on the mental health and wellbeing of its members, and this will continue to guide the charity’s activities going forward.
