The Object of the SCCT is:
The promotion for the benefit of the public of urban or rural regeneration in areas of social and economic deprivation and in particular in Miles Platting, Collyhurst, Ancoats and surrounding areas of Manchester by all or any of the following means:
(a) the relief of financial hardship:
(b) the creation of training and employment opportunities by the provision of workspace, buildings, and/or land for use on favourable terms:
(c) the provision of housing for those who are in conditions of need and the improvement of housing in the public sector or in charitable ownership provided that such power shall not extend to relieving any local authorities or other bodies of a statutory duty to provide or improve housing:
(d) the maintenance, improvement or provision of public amenities:
(e) the provision of recreational facilities for the public at large or those who by reason of their youth, age, infirmity or disablement, financial hardship or social and economic circumstances, have need of such facilities:
(k) the provision of public health facilities and childcare:
(m) such other means as may from time to time be determined subject to the prior written consent of the Charity Commissioners for England and Wales.
SCCT was established because of the work carried out under the umbrella of Miles Platting Community Age Friendly Network (MPCAN) who had set up an Action Group to consider the possibilities to regenerate St Cuthbert’s Church.
St Cuthbert's Action Group
The Action Group visited community hubs and social centres in other parts of Manchester to get inspired, including Moston Miners, The Lighthouse Project and The Carlton Club in Whalley Range and to seek support for us as we start out on our own journey of developing communityled facilities for our local area.
The Action Group worked together with the Parochial Church Council(PCC) and following a neighbourhood-wide consultation about options to redevelop the St Cuthberts site for community benefit it was decided to establish the SCCT Charity. Trustees from the PCC and community organisations were chosen to take forward the establishment and registration of the charity.
Establishing the Charity
The work of the trustees has focused on identifying an appropriate form of governance and a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) constitution was adopted. The Charity was registered in June 2024. A bank account has been opened and appropriate Policies and Procedures are being adopted.
Plans for the Future
Our next phase of work will be to identify partners with whom we can collaborate to take forward plans to redevelop the St Cuthberts site. We will continue to work with MPCAN and CLASS who have provided inspiration and support and seek to identify partners and sources of funding that will enable concrete plans for developing a mixed-use community hub providing a range of services on the site.
