Objectives and activities
We’re an independent charitable organisation that is committed to reducing feelings of loneliness and isolation on a global scale, by pairing volunteers with the elderly community. Our aim is to bring people together, enabling them to forge meaningful and lasting relationships. At Adopt a Grandparent, our mission is to abolish loneliness by creating newly found relationships around the world. What started as a local community initiative quickly became a global hit - with volunteers as far as Hawaii expressing their desire to adopt their very own grandparent. The first elderly volunteers that took part were based in Surrey, which remains the heart of the project.
Public Benefit
For the public benefit, within the United Kingdom and internationally, to relieve those in need due to being elderly and isolated or experiencing loneliness and particularly those receiving care from or within care homes, assisted and retirement living, and domiciliary care services by using innovative technological solutions that enable effective communication to foster meaningful intergenerational relationships and combat loneliness and isolation.
The trustees confirm that they have complied with the requirements of section 17 of the Charities Act 2011 to have due regard to the public benefit guidance published by the Charity Commission for England and Wales.
Achievements and Performance
The charity is in a stable financial position. During the year donations totalled £58,301 and the in year deficit was £358.
The Trustees look forward to being able to continue their charitable work in the coming years in accordance with their policies and continue to pair volunteers with the elderly community.
Reserves policy
The Trustees have adopted a policy to maintain general unrestricted reserves at a level equal to 6 months operating costs. This policy will be kept under review and the Trustees will monitor its application on an annual basis. At the year end the charity held £50,081 of reserves, all of which is unrestricted.

Principal risk and Mitigation Statement
The Trustees have identified the charity’s principal risk as its reliance on limited funding resources. The delivery of Adopt a Grandparent’s service comes with a cost that covers the connecting of volunteers with those in the Care Facility, conducting the calls whilst ensuring strong safe-guarding measures are in place.
To mitigate this risk, the charity has adopted a proactive funding strategy. This includes diversifying income streams and regularly reviewing operational risks to ensure the charity can continue to operate safely, efficiently and within its financial means.
Small companies provision statement
This report has been prepared in accordance with the special provisions relating to companies subject to the small companies’ regime within Part 15 of the Companies Act 2006.
Statement of Trustees Responsibilities for the Financial Statements
The Trustees of the Charity are required to prepare for each financial year accounts which give a true and fair view of the state of affairs of the Charity and of the incoming resources and application of resources of the Charity for that period. In preparing those financial statements, the trustees are required to:
-
select suitable accounting policies and then apply them consistently;
-
make judgements and estimates that are reasonable and prudent; state whether applicable accounting standards have been followed, subject to any material departures disclosed and explained in the financial statements;
-
prepare the financial statements on the going concern basis unless it is inappropriate to presume that this basis applies.
The Trustees are responsible for keeping proper accounting records which disclose with reasonable accuracy at any time the financial position of the Charity and to enable them to ensure that the financial statements comply with the Charities Act 2011, the Charity (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 and the provisions of the Trust Deed. They are also responsible for safeguarding the assets of the Charity and hence for taking reasonable steps for the prevention and detection of fraud and other irregularities. 27/3/2026
