## **Structure, Governance and management** 

**The Charity has a governing document adopted on 5th June 2024.** 

**The trustees have prepared suitable polices policies and take governance seriously and seek to apply the Charity Governance Code. Training is also given to the volunteers. There are currently 5 volunteers** 

## **Objectives and activities** 

## **Summary of  the Objects:** 

**TO RELIEVE POVERTY AND FINANCIAL HARDSHIP AMONG PEOPLE LIVING OR WORKING IN THE CHICHESTER AREA BY THE REUSE AND PROVISION OF FURNITURE AND OTHER HOUSEHOLD ITEMS TO SUCH PERSONS WHICH THEY COULD NOT OTHERWISE AFFORD.** 



## **Summary of main activities in relation to these objects:** 

**Previously in 2024, the main activities have been carried by the trustees and a team of  7 volunteers. The activity of clients being able to select items to make their house a home with free delivery of household items. This was enhanced by the cooperation of the Chichester Crafters who were responsible for repairing and upscaling good quality wooden furniture which would have been sent to the amenity tip. The sponsorship of Panther Vans providing free transport was essential to the operation.** 

**During 2024 and over early 2025 over 110 families and individuals were helped with a wide range of household items. The fact that they could choose the items greatly added to their self confidence and wellbeing . Feedback has been excellent particularly as most were being housed in empty properties even without floor coverings and curtains.** 

**However loss of the main premises and the lack of a suitable cost effective replacement together with a difficult funding environment meant in 2025 that the main operation had to be suspended. The team did well as the original premises needed to be cleared and restored to the original state in a short period.  Despite extensive investigation no suitable replacement building could be found.** 

## **Achievements and Performance** 

**With no sales income, the charity is dependent and fund raising and grants. The failure to be given a substantial levelling up grant by Chichester District Council meant there was constant pressure on financing the operation.  However, during 2005 the charity managed to be successful in obtaining small grants and fund raising.  A small number of people were helped with specific items and financial support given to a charity offering a similar service.** 

## **Future Plans** 

**Finding a suitable premises has proved very difficult. The trustees are therefore reviewing possible closure of Second Chance Chichester. Funding and keeping volunteers has also been difficult given cost of living rises and competition for a smaller pool of grants and funding. The activities of Second Chance Chichester has meant that larger charities have changed the way they operate with the homeless which to a certain extent has filled the gap SCC was filling**
