## **Annual Report for Southampton Hebrew Congregation for the year ended 31st December 2024** 

Renovations. The renovations have been ongoing since October 2023, and for a while we were not able to use the synagogue. Our valuables and equipment were transferred to storage, and we have to thank Ben Swabe for arranging the storage and the van. There was a community spirit as a group came together to help with the clearance. 

Since March we have been able to use the synagogue, and our first celebration was Purim led by Rabbi Zalman Lewis and family. This was a great success as both communities attended, and friends from outside the communities. 

High Holy Days in 2024 were well attended, with the Reform leading Rosh Hashanah and the Orthodox helped by the Chabad leading Yom Kippur. Rabbi Zalman Lewis brought his pop up succah for the usual Succoth celebrations, and for 2024 we celebrated Chanukah in the synagogue, again both communities coming together. 

Rabbi Zalman Lewis took advantage of the renovations, and the fact that we now have a functioning kitchen, by holding a Friday night service, followed by supper for the students, and Shabbat service with lunch for the students and the community. 

The above success, culminated in September with a rededication service attended by the Lord Mayor of Southampton. Ed Horwich of the Jewish Small Communities Network was unable to attend, but attended our Succoth celebration. 

The project is ongoing with interest from the University, and hopefully we will be able to make it a Centre for Judaism in Southampton for all. 

Over the year our Outreach arm has either attended or received 16 visits as far afield as Salisbury. 

Both presenters have been out to schools, and other groups, mainly the Scouts to help with their faith badge, or together have presented in the synagogue. 

Finally we took the opportunity to change our Charity registration from exempt to full registration, which will help with obtaining grants.
