The AGM took place and we were able to sayourthanks to Mar¥aret Plnder who stepped
down as chalr after expertty 8uldln8 the ￿lety thrO￿h some very challenging tlmes. We were
also able to pay trfbute to lan Wllson who rellnquished the role of Presldent due to the CIO
ststU5 of the 50dety not Indudin8 the positton. lan was thanked for hls servlce In notjUSt the
role of pre51dent but In the numerous other FK)sltlons he has held on the executfve committee
over the yearsl
The first concert wasfftled "Heroes and Willaln< and took plate, a8aln, on a Sundav
afternoon In November wlth the alm of makln8 tt accesslble to both young and older
audlence member&
We Invlted the audlence to meet our plck of heroes and vl11alr￿ from the outlaw 811ty the Kld
to mesmerlsln8 antphero Count Dracula and thè ever popular ultlmate super-hero Supemijn.
The concert èlxTr Included some more thou8ht-pro¥okln8 muslc w￿h John Wllllam5'
"Hymn to the Fallen". Lo¢•1 composer Sam Mavor had composed a reflectlve plece entltled
'Popples" whlch we were deltghted to be able to featuR. In an InterestJn8 pre￿ of
programmlng the orchestra perforn)ed both the well known"Fanfare for the Common Man.
and the relatlvety unknown"FanfarÈ forthe Uncommon Woman" by the Amerlcan composer
Joan Tower.
We must once a8ain thank Andrea Chalk for her wonderful projectlons whlch definltely
helped the large and appreclattvè audlenee fulty immerse themselves In thls varfed and
Intere5tlng pro8ramme.
Our February concert was advertlsed a$ In" Invltstlon to Dance" and It fe•tured muslc
wrltten for the ballet whKh Included pleces by Prokofiev. De Falla. Khachaturlan, Bllss. and
Stravlnsky. The programme was very chaltenging for the orchestra but, as afways, they rose to
the challen8e arml pmduced some exceptlonal mvstcal interpretstions of thls programme.
The February concert wasSkn)on Chalys final concert of the 5ea50n and he was keen to
express how pleased he was with the thndard of the orthe5tra's playlng in both of the Concert
We are tremendousty lu(*y to have both Simon and Haine as our Muslcal Dlrertors,. they
work $0 well tcytr*rto ensure that the orchestra Is able to achieve such IMp￿sSi¥e results.

The final concert of the season sow the return ofAFKlrew Penny a5 Condurtor Emeritus in
dellghtful coft￿rt whlch also featured the supremety talented Alessandro Tavema as the
sololst In Rachmaninoff s 2nd Piano Concerto. The concert was dedlcated to the memory of
Malcolm Ruddlforth who was, for many years. a strong and loyal 5UPPOrteT of the orchestra
We are honoured and gratefvl that when Malcolm pa5*d he bequeathed a signlficant Sum
of money to the Hull Phllhamionlc Society. Thls wlll help ensure the fvture flnanclal securlty
of the orchestra. Thls concert was also the Ideal opportunmy ft)r Andrew to complete the
cycle of Brahms symphonles, whlch he had be8un before Covld, wlth a performance of the
3rd Symphony. The concert was a great success and provided a fftiin8 end to another
hlghly successful season.
Durlng the year we undert￿k a recruttment prtxess to feplace our General admlnlstfdtor
Je55 Fear. Jess has been fantastlc, a real asset and her hard work has been Invaluable to the
50clety for a number of years. We are delI￿ted to welcome Emlty Snowden who wlll take
over the role of AdmlnLstrator next season. Emlly brfn85 a wea￿h of Arts admlnlstrntlon
experlence and Is keen to get st•rted In the roie and become part of the Hull Phll famllyl
Chrts Pollock, our lon&-ser4ln8 Ilbrnrfan has finally stepped back from the role. During the li
season he worked Close￿ wtth Rebecca Johnson and Orlalth McDonnÈll who wlll be replacl
hlm. It goe5 wtthout sayln8 that we are very gratefvl for his excellent service over the years,
The next season looks to be an exclttng one be8lnnln8 wlth our"Operatic Showstoppers"
concert whkh features g collaboratlon between the ortt￿. the Hull Choral Unlon and
East Rldin8 County Choir. Th15 is sure to be a spectacular event and further st￿n%then$ our
mu$lcal bonds with other •rtS Of8anlsations In and around the cty of Hull.
