The trustees present their report and accounts for the year ended 31 December 2024. The accounts have been prepared on a receipts and payments basis and comply with the charity’s governing document and applicable law.
## **Background to the Foundation**
The Amber Townson Foundation was founded in loving memory of Amber, a joyful and vibrant child who tragically passed away from Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood (SUDC).
Faced with unimaginable loss, Amber’s family turned their grief into action, determined to prevent other families from enduring the same heartbreak.
The Foundation was registered in May 2024, and its charitable objects are as follows:
- To relieve the needs of families suffering from bereavement due to the loss of a child in any way the trustees see fit including providing or assisting in the provision of support, resources and access to appropriate health, education, and therapy services and facilities;
- To relieve the needs of children and young people within Bristol who are experiencing or are at risk of experiencing poor mental and/or physical health, including providing or assisting in the provision of resources and access to appropriate health, education, and therapy services and facilities;
- To advance the education of the public by the provision of grants to charities and other similar organisations conducting research into the causes, incidence and effects of sudden death in children and by publishing or otherwise disseminating the useful results of such research.
## **Management of the Foundation**
The Foundation is managed by its trustees. The trustees meet at least quarterly, and are in touch regularly to discuss Foundation matters between meetings.
The initial trustees for the purposes of formation of the Foundation were Tara Townson (Amber’s mother), Charlotte Harris (Amber’s godmother) and Adam Turpin (a friend of the Townson family). Adam has since stepped down as a trustee, and Alexandra Casley, who was an early volunteer for the Foundation, has since joined the board.
As and when the trustees look to recruit further individuals to act alongside them, they will advertise amongst local networks.
## **Activities**
The Foundation was formally established in May 2024, and the initial objective of the trustees for its first financial year was to raise awareness of the Foundation among the local community in which Amber lived, as well as raising funds to give the Foundation an initial pot of money with which it could start its grant making programme in its first full financial year of operations.
Glen, Amber’s father, participated in a full Iron Man event in September 2024, and raised c£8,000 in sponsorship. The trustees are grateful to the Bristol Bears, for whom Glen works, for raising awareness of the Foundation on its social media channels.
With the support of the owners and members of CrossFit Henleaze and CrossFit Trym, to whom the trustees are extremely grateful, the trustees raised the net sum of c£19,000 by means of the “Everest Challenge”, during which 5 members of CrossFit Henleaze attempted to climb the height of Mt Everest by means of stepping up and down from 20’ boxes. In all 3 of the 5 completed the challenge within the designated 24 hour time cap, and a large number of other members of the gym community joined in during the day, resulting in a significant sum raised, as well as awareness of the Foundation in the locality. The event was publicised on the local section of the BBC website, as well as local newspapers, and Adam was interviewed on BBC Bristol in advance of the challenge, which raised the profile of the Foundation and Sudden Unexplained Death in Childhood (SUDC), the reason for Amber’s passing and the subject of research that the Foundation will look to support in the future.
## **Risk factors**
The trustees have reviewed the risks to the charity’s assets and income and are satisfied that adequate controls are in place.
## **Public benefit**
The trustees have considered the guidance on public benefit published by the Charity Commission, and have due regard to it as required by law when exercising their duties and responsibilities.
## **Financial review**
The trustees have been very pleased with the Foundation’s initial fundraising efforts, which they consider to be a good basis for the Foundation's grant making operations moving
forwards. The trustees have developed a grant making policy, with the Foundation’s grant making programme to start during the course of 2025.
The trustees have resolved to keep up to £10,000 as reserves within the Foundation’s bank account, to ensure that they have sufficient funds to cover administrative costs, as well as the costs of further fundraising events. The trustees will also explore what investment opportunities are open to the Foundation to maximise return on these funds.

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of The Amber Townson Foundation for the period ended 31 December 2024 which comprise the receipts and payments account, the statement of assets and liabilities and the related notes.
## **Respective responsibilities of trustees and examiner and basis of report**
As the charity's trustees, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 ("the Act").
I report in respect of my examination of the charity's accounts carried out under section 145 of the Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
## **Independent examiner's statement**
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:
1. accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section 130 of the Act; or 2. the accounts do not accord with those records.
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
