TRUSTEES REPORT re Farnborough Gospel Hall CIO
Farnborough Gospel Hall is a church that seeks to serve the spiritual and other practical needs of the community.
About three years ago the decision was taken by the trustees to convert the existing charity (Amelia Cook) into a CIO. Application forms were completed to this end and the new CIO – Farnborough Gospel Hall was granted by the Charity Commission on 28[th] May 2024. The process was then started of trying to open a new Barclays account in the name of Farnborough Gospel Hall. Although having dealt with Barclays for thirty years and having personal accounts, the process of meeting their compliance rules proved to be very tortuous and involved (including many emails, interviews etc). Eventually we were granted an account dedicated to the new CIO Farnborough Gospel Hall on 3[rd] July 2025. This new account was required for the second stage of the proceedings. The Amelia Cook charity was financed by investment returns from portfolios of investments (shares, bonds etc) managed by our investments manager Redmayne Bentley. The next stage involved a transfer of all these assets into the name of the new CIO Farnborough Gospel Hall. In spite of having dealt with these managers for many years I had to undertake the involved procedures of navigating their own compliance demands before the transfers could be effected. After this is completed we can get the new CIO up and running. The timing of this will need to be agreed with our accountant. Because of the above there were obviously no accounts drawn up for the Farnborough Gospel Hall CIO for the year 2024/25. A copy of the Amelia Cook 276100 accounts have been sent to the Charity Commission and these would have been the same as for the new CIO had the transfers taken place.
I hope this goes some way to explain the considerable difficulties we have encountered. Once the transfer of assets is complete and the
new CIO is operational we will then need to close down the Amelia Cook charity account. Documents supporting the dates of the above events have been sent to the Charity Commission and should be on your file.
The annual income of the new charity is expected to be in the order of £10,000 per annum.
