Charity name: KRISHNA SWANSEA

Charity registration number: 1208387

Objectives and Activities

Krishna Swansea is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation and as such is governed by its Constitution. The charity's aims and objectives are to provide facilities and services inspired by the ideals, practices and techniques of the traditional wisdom of the Vedic bhakti tradition specifically as taught by A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada; and as revealed in the Vaishnava texts of the Bhagavad Gita and Shrimad Bhagavatam to educate the general public, relieve suffering and poverty, to manifest and promote that wisdom tradition and advance, transmit, and propagate the religion of Krishna Consciousness. This sole objective of the charity, the promotion of the wisdom of the Vedic Bhakti tradition, is fulfilled by the activities of the charity. These core activities enable the charity to meet its objective through its medium to long term strategy:

The key elements of our medium to long term strategy are:

  1. Food distribution

  2. Literature distribution

  3. Meditation

  4. Workshops

  5. Donations

  6. Pastoral Care

  7. Education

  8. Social media

Achievements and Performance

Krishna Swansea began activities during the period this report covers. The first activity we started was to establish our Food For Life support. During the period over 1,000 free nutritious meals were distributed to those in need.

Additionally mediation and workshops were started. These will continue to grow in 2025.

2024 provided a very good start for the charity with over 30 volunteers supporting the works of the charity.

Financial Review

The charity reported a net income of £15,645 for the period ending 31st December 2024.

The principal funding source was a grant of £20,000 from the National Lottery towards our Food For Life activities. There was also income directly from charitable activities of £578.

Total income was £20,584.

Total resources expanded was £4,939

The total of unrestricted funds at 31 December 2024 was £576. The total of restricted funds at 31 December 2024 was £15,645.

The restricted fund is in relation to the grant from the National Lottery for our Food For Life activities.

The charity does not currently have a reserves policy. During 2025 the trustees will consider the need to now implement a policy.

Structure, Governance and Management

The Charity is registered as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation with the Charity Commission. The body responsible for the management of the Charity is the Board of Trustees.

The Charity is organised so that the trustees meet regularly to manage its affairs. We are very grateful for the help provided by the many volunteers all year round. In 2024 there were over 30 regular volunteers.

The trustees are responsible for establishing internal control systems within the charity. The major risks which may impact the activities of the charity have been reviewed during the period and the trustees are satisfied that the system of internal controls currently in place is adequate, whilst recognising that they are designed to manage rather than eliminate risk. Internal controls are reviewed on an ongoing basis as part of the day-to-day risk management process within the charity.

The Board of Trustees who served during the period of 2024 are shown below. Trustees are appointed or removed by the Members. Trustees serve for a period of 3 years. The board of trustees for 2024 were as follows:

  1. Terence Anderson

  2. David Morris

  3. Clare Johnson

New trustees are provided with training on their legal obligations under charity and company law, Charity Commission guidance on public benefit, the aims and objectives of the Charity, and the governance and decision making processes of the Charity. Continuing training for trustees is undertaken through regular meetings, attending relevant seminars, specific discussions with individuals and organisations and briefing papers in the areas supported by the charity.
