Friends of White Woman Lane Charity number 1208337 Trustees Report Period ended 31 August 2025
This report should be read in conjunction with the accounts for the Charities first period.
Role of Friends of White Woman Lane School
The role of this organisation is twofold, to ensure that the school has additional funding available for extracurricular activities and events and to provide a sense of community friendship and fun for all.
Funding for schools has steadily been dropping so our role to increase funding for the extras is more important than ever.
The role of the committee is a group of people who work as a team and achieve amazing things, we all need to work to our strengths and within our own limits. It is also a group who have fun and enjoy each other's company. If we don't have fun we can't achieve what we set out to do.
Our Objectives
-
To raise money through events.
-
To provide fun events open to all.
-
To have a positive collaborative relationship with the school.
-
To work as a team
-
To be fair
-
To have fun
Charitable Structure
The original association that was Friends of White Woman Lane Junior School gained charitable status on 21 May 2024 so these accounts represent the period from then until 31 August 2025. Going forward the accounts will be made up annually to 31 August each year.
The Trustees have not changed during the year and are named as Rachael Cole (Joint Chair), Catherine Dugdale (Joint Chair) and Rachel Townsend (Treasurer). After the period end at the AGM in September 2025 Rachel Townsend resigned as treasurer and trustee and this role was taken on by Becca Eagling.
As a charity and as trustees we abide by the rules of the charity commission in terms of how we run and are governed and how the funds are spent.
The FOWWL follows the constitution which has been adopted and lodged with the Charity Commission.
We are a member of Parentkind which as well as providing us with insurance coverage also has a wealth of information support and guidance.
Process of deciding how we spend funds.
All requests for funding for activities or equipment are discussed by the committee during meetings or within the committee Whats app group to enable decisions to be made in a timely manner.
Funds should be distributed fairly and for the benefit of as wide a group of children as possible.
Cash
Bank balances at the start of the period on 21 May 2024 were £6,204 and at the end of the period on 31 August 2025 were £12,257.
Fundraising
During the period to August 2025 we raised £15,240 and this was after costs of £1,407 were paid which relate to events taking place in the next financial year (meaning the income is yet to be earned to offset these).
The fundraising split by events is included in the financial statements for the year.
Of the fundraising total noted above £6,270 relates to the period from 21 May 2024 to 31 August 2024 and the remainder is for the year from 1 September 2024 to 31 August 2025.
Donations and purchases for the school
During the period we have donated £8,758 to the school for equipment purchases, school trip subsidies, Christmas books, workshops and leavers celebrations.
In addition to this, we had a super slide installed on our mound which was very kindly donated and constructed by Simon Calver and his team. It has been a massive hit with the children!
Admin expenses
The charity's admin expenses relate to bank account fees and insurance.
Insurance with Parentkind £162 Bank charges £116 Equipment £130 Other £20
Bank charges commenced in March 2025 due to a change in the terms of Lloyds bank. We are in the process of aligning the bank account name and the charity name to convert the account to a charity account to mitigate some of these costs.
Thanks
Of course none of this would be possible without our amazing committee, the commitment of the staff team at White Woman Lane and the number of volunteers who help out in lots of different ways. Everyone plays a part. Thank you all.
Plans for the year
The fundraising focus for the current year is for additional play equipment for the school field. This will be split into phases to make the fundraising targets more achievable.
