2. Structure, governance and management

The CIO is governed by its constitution adopted on 20 May 2024, based on the ‘Association’ model. Trustees are appointed by the members and serve voluntarily. New trustees receive induction on Charity Commission guidance and governance responsibilities. The trustees meet regularly to oversee operations, with decisions made by majority vote. Risk management includes regular reviews of financial controls and compliance with safeguarding procedures.

3. Objectives and activities

The charity’s objects are to promote for the benefit of the community of Cockermouth and surrounding areas the provision of facilities for recreation or other leisure time occupation of individuals who need such facilities by reason of their youth, age, infirmity or disablement, financial hardship, or social and economic circumstances or for the public at large in the interests of social welfare and with the object of improving the condition of life of the community, primarily but not exclusively through the provision of a multi-purpose pump track and skate park allowing for BMX, skateboarding, cycling, roller blading/skating, scootering, balance bikes, and wheelchair facilities.

All activities are undertaken to provide public benefit, targeting children/young people, people with disabilities, and the general public. In 2024, we focused on campaigning, community engagement, and planning to establish the facility.

4. Achievements and performance

This was our inaugural partial year since registration in May 2024. Prior to registration we received contributions from Cockermouth Rotary, raised £245 through our JustGiving page (now closed) and launched a new website in October 2023 to manage communication and share updates. A survey launched in October 2023 gathered input from over 100 residents on the proposed park’s design and usage. 98% of survey respondents supported the project, highlighting its potential to reduce youth isolation and promote physical activity.

Key achievements during the report period (20/05/2024 to 31/03/2025) we held several community meetings, secured formal support from Cumberland Council for potential use of their land and commitment to assist with development. We collaborated with local schools like Fairfield Primary and Cockermouth School for input and established contacts with experienced contractors to improve knowledge of factors that influence delivery.

These efforts have built strong community momentum toward realising the skate park.

5. Financial review for the reporting period (20/05/2024 to 31/03/2025).

Total income: £0 (Donations, Gift Aid, and Grants from local groups like Cockermouth Rotary were received outside of this period). Total expenditures: £4.24

We ended the period with reserves of £741.

6. Plans for the future

In 2025/26, we plan to engage contractors for site reviews and concept designs, conduct community consultations on options, and apply for major funding grants. We will hold regular public meetings to advance these steps and welcome new volunteers.

7. Declaration

The trustees declare that they have approved the trustees’ report above. Signed on behalf of the charity’s trustees:
