Alm and Purpose
St John the Baptist's Parochial Church Council (the PCC) has the responsibility of cooperating
with the Incumbent, The Reverend Adrian Wells, in promotino in Ihe ecclesiastical parish, the
whole mission of the Church, pastoral, evangelistic. social and ecumenical. The Church is a
Grade11 Listed Building.
Objecttves and Activities
The PCC is committed to enabling as many people as possible to worship at our Church, and
to become part of our parish family. When planning our activities, the PCC has considered the
Charity Commission's guidance on public benefit. and in particular the specific guidance on
charities for the advancement of religion. Our services and worship put faith into practice
through prayer and scripture. music and sacrament. We try to enable ordinary ￿ople to live
out their faith as part of our parish family. through..
Worship and prayer.. learning about the Gospel, and developing their knowledge and
trust in Jesus.
Provision of pastoral care for people Ilvlng in the parish.
To facilitate this work. it is vital that we maintaln the fabric of the Church.
Achlevements and Performance
Worship and Prayer
The PCC is keen to offer at least two Sunday services each month that are both beneficial an
spiritually fulfilling.
At present there are 12 parishioners on the Electoral Roll, 3 of whom live outside the parish.
The average Sunday attendance on the Sunday seNice was about 8. As well as our regular
services, we enable our community to celebrate and thank God at the milestones of the
journey through life.
Deanery Synod
A member of the PCC sits on Ihe South Molton Deanery Synod. This provides the PCC with a
link with the Churches around us. and also with the Diocese as a whole. It also receives
reports from the General Synod.
Church Fabrlc
The church requires more altention as detailed in the Quinquennial Report carried out by John
Alexander in June 2020. Much of these works have been undertaken during the year by a
professional firm.
Mlsslon and Evangelism
Helping those in need is a demonstration of our faith. Being a very small community giving is
nol always straightforward. Our monthly magazine, 'The Newsletter, has a print rLJn of some
300 copies, and give5 details of what is corning up and reports on previous activities.

Activities are necessarily limited by the size of the parish.
Mr Jeff Souch, has also taken on the role of project manager of Meshaw Together. This is
project of making the church a usable space for community activity and worship, t)iscussions
have taken place with Members of the PCC and the Diocesan Advisory Council. A formal
faculty application has been approved. A specification has been drawn up and quotes
received. Grant making bodies will be approached to support this proiect. The reordering
works commenced on 1 December 2023 and was compleled in July 2024.
We enjoyed fund raising community events - a harvest supper and fete, which were well
supported.
Flnanclal Review
Total receipts in the unrestricted General Fund were £6,490 and payments from this fund
tolalled £7,491 giving a delicit of £1.001. The coiitribulioi I lo Ilie Diocesaii 'Coiiiiiion Fund,
which pays the stipends and housing costs of the clergy, amounled to £2,383.
Reserves Policy
The PCC has resolved to maintain, if possible. a balance on our General (unrestricted) Fund,
which equates to at least Ihree monlh's unrestricted payments (say £2,170) to cover
emergencies. Obviously our current balance of £5.241 more Ihan covers Ihis target.
It is our policy to invesl any SUTp5us funds with the CBF Church of England Deposit (CCL4)
Fund.
Safeguarding
The PCC has complied with the duty under section 5 of the Safeguarding and Clergy Discipline
Measure 2016 (duty to have regard to House of Bishops, guiijance on safeguarding children
and vulnerable adulls). We do not have a Parish Safeguarding Representative (PSR). however,
and members of the PCC have been encouraged to undertake basic safeguarding training.
The Parish Dashboard is boing reviewed and actioned.
Volunteers
The members of the PCC would like to thank all Ihe volunteers who work hard to support the
church and the community. Our thanks also go to our Churchwarden. Mrs Joy Cotley, Ms
Erica Reynolds for Chairing Meshaw Together and Mr Jeff Souch as the project manager and
grant fund raiser.
Structure. Governance and Management
The method of appointment of PCC members is set out in the Church Representation Rules.
The Council comprises the Incumbent, the Churchwardens. those elected to the Deanery
Synod, and other members who are elected at the Annual Parochial Church Meeting. by those
on the Electoral Roll. Meinbers of the congregation are always urged to join the Electoral Roll
and lo stand lor election to the PCC.
The PCC members are responsible for making decislons on all matters of general concern and
importance in the parish, and for all financial matters. The full PCC mel five times during the
year, with an average level of attendance of 90%.

Molton, within the archdeaconry of Barnslaple, In the Diocese of Exeter. The correspondence

The PCC is a body corporate (PCC Powers Measure 1956, and the Church Representation
Rules 2006) and a registered Charity with Ihe Charity Commission number 1208284.
