||During its first year, the HABS charity has worked hard to promote the<br>mental health and emotional wellbeing of children, young people, and<br>parents/carers, primarily within the Hertfordshire area. This has been<br>achieved by expanding the provision of therapeutic and counselling<br>services, delivering workshops targeted to local needs for both students<br>and parents, and offering drop-in sessions focused on supporting<br>children’s mental health. The charity has also undertaken fundraising<br>activities to generate income, enabling the recruitment of an additional<br>member of staff to strengthen service delivery. These activities have taken<br>place within both school and community settings.<br>The charity also supports trainee counsellors on placement, providing<br>supervision, guidance, and structured practical experience within<br>educational environments. Through this model, HABS has increased the<br>availability of counselling support for pupils, parents/carers, and adults,<br>while contributing to the professional development of future mental health<br>practitioners.<br>In addition, the charity has delivered advice, training, and support to<br>families, carers, and professionals to help them better understand and<br>respond to the emotional and mental health needs of young people. This<br>includes the delivery of parenting programmes and the development of<br>bespoke workshops tailored to the emerging needs within local<br>communities. Over the past year, the charity has also focused on building<br>strong networks and partnerships to support sustainable growth and<br>development over the next five years.<br>The trustees confirm that they have had due regard to the Charity<br>Commission’s guidance on public benefit when reviewing the charity’s<br>aims and objectives and in planning its activities, ensuring that all work<br>undertaken provides clear and measurable benefit to the public.|

The charity does not currently operate a formal grant-making programme, but when grants are made, they are assessed and approved in line with the Grant-Making Policy, which ensures that all awards support the charity’s aims and are allocated fairly, transparently, and with appropriate monitoring of outcomes.

- policy on grantmaking; 

- policy programme related investment; 

- contribution made by volunteers. 

The charity does not currently undertake any programme-related investments at present. Should this change, any such investments would be made in accordance with the charity’s objectives and ethical investment principles, and overseen by the Board of Trustees. 

The charity benefits significantly from the contribution of volunteers, who support a range of activities including assistance with administration, fundraising, and direct programme delivery. 

Their time and commitment are vital to the success of the charity’s work, and we are currently in the process of building a bigger pool of volunteers to support our work in the community. They are supported through appropriate induction, supervision, training and safeguarding procedures.

Over the past year, HABS has continued to make a significant impact across our community through a wide range of initiatives, events, and support services. Despite ongoing funding challenges, our dedicated team and supportive partners have ensured that we continue to deliver meaningful, high-quality support to children, young people, and families. 

## **Community Engagement and Fundraising** 

- Hosted a successful Charity Golf Event, bringing together local businesses and supporters to raise vital funds for our services. 

- Organised a 10K Run, which attracted fantastic community participation and raised awareness of our work. 

- Launched a “4 Races in 4 Months” Challenge, raising additional funds and inspiring community involvement. 

- Delivered a fun-filled Halloween Event, engaging families and children in a safe, community-based celebration. 

- Continued our much-loved Community Christmas Appeal, providing gifts and essential items to families in need, an initiative that has grown each year since it began in 2012. 

## **Support for Families and Individuals** 

- Provided targeted family support and early intervention to help families overcome challenges and build stronger relationships. 

- Delivered counselling and psychotherapy for adults, children, and young people, promoting emotional wellbeing and mental health. 

- Secured additional funding to expand our counselling and family support services, allowing us to reach even more families and improve access to timely help. 

- Strengthened our partnerships with schools, professionals, and community organisations to ensure joined-up, effective support. 

## **Networking and Partnerships** 

- Chosen as one of the Mayors Charity of the Year for the Borough of Broxbourne.  Raising vital funds for the charity. 

- Joined the Hertfordshire Chamber of Commerce, broadening our professional connections and raising awareness of HABS within the wider business community. 

- Extended our networking reach across the community, gaining new support from a range of organisations and individuals. 

- Welcomed two new ambassadors to the charity, including a wellknown television personality,  who will help champion our work and increase visibility. 

- Joined the Charity Excellence Organisation to gain additional support for the charity and gained the kite mark

- This mentoring has been invaluable in helping to develop and strengthen our charity’s structure, processes, and strategic planning.

- Secured over 70% of our counselling for children and young people income through grants and project-based funding, demonstrating strong trust and confidence from funders and stakeholders. 

- Continued to explore new funding opportunities and community partnerships to sustain and expand our impact in the years ahead.

This progress is the result of the support we’ve been able to access, and the commitment of our exceptional Board of Trustees, who not only contribute their time and expertise in meetings but also actively support the charity externally through networking, advocacy, and guidance. Their continued involvement has been instrumental in strengthening our governance, expanding our reach, and building a more sustainable future for HABS.

We are now working on year two of the charity and building on the foundations that we feel are strong, with the vision of creating more opportunities, securing additional funding, finding funding for a Deep Dive on the organisaton to make us stronger for funding application for sustainability.
