**Association of Law Teachers**

## **Report of the Trustees**

## **for the period 14 May 2024 to 5 April 2025**

The trustees present their annual report for the period 14 May 2024 to 5 April 2025.

## **Structure, Governance, and Management**

The Association of Law Teachers (ALT) was constituted as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO) on 14 May 2024. (The ALT formerly operated as an unincorporated members’ association, which was established in 1965 and evolved to become one of the established law learned societies in the UK.) The trustees of the CIO are legally responsible for strategy setting, and policies for ensuring implementation. The CIO’s trustees have also considered the risks to which the CIO may be exposed, and reviewed potential risks, ensuring systems and procedures are effected to manage risk and mitigate any adverse outcomes.

## **Objectives and Activities**

The objects of the ALT as a CIO are _“the advancement of legal education for the public benefit, in particular, but not exclusively, the development, study, understanding and use of the educational aspects of law and its teaching and other forms of dissemination.”_

After giving the matter careful consideration, and undertaking member consultation via Annual General Meetings of the unincorporated members’ association, the Executive Committee of the unincorporated members’ association considered that the objects of the ALT would be best achieved through the transfer of the assets, liabilities, operations and activities of the unincorporated members’ association collectively as a going concern to a CIO, formed for the purpose of accepting the transfer and carrying on the business of the members’ association.

This was ratified at a vote by members of the unincorporated association at its Annual General Meeting of 12 April 2025, and the board of trustees of the CIO resolved, pursuant to the charitable objects, to accept the transfer, via a deed of transfer dated 9 October 2025. Thus, the activity of the Association of the Law Teachers has been conducted under the aegis of the CIO from 9 October 2025.

## **Achievement and Performance**

The CIO was dormant during the period 14 May 2024 – 5 April 2025 that is covered by this Trustees’ Report and Financial Statements, pending the transfer outlined above.

## **Financial Review**

No transactions took place during the period 14 May 2024 – 5 April 2025.

## **Future Plans**

Following the transfer of the assets, liabilities, operations and activities of the unincorporated members’ association collectively as a going concern to the CIO effective 9 October 2025, future plans will involve regular activities pursuant to the _inter_ charitable objective of the advancement of legal education for the public benefit by, _alia,_ activities including support for the ALT seminar series, the ALT annual conference, the awarding of research grants, and publications.
