New trustees receive an induction covering their legal responsibilities, the charity's purposes and activities, and operational procedures. The trustees aim to maintain a diverse board that reflects the community served and ensures effective governance.
Organisational structure and decision-making:
The charity is managed by its board of trustees who meet regularly to oversee operations, set strategic direction, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements. Day-to-day
decisions are delegated where appropriate, whilst significant matters including financial commitments and strategic initiatives are reserved for full board consideration. The trustees maintain oversight of the charity's financial position and ensure all activities advance the charitable purposes. Decision-making processes prioritise the needs and interests of the Kurdish community, particularly genocide survivors and socially excluded individuals.
Risk management:
The trustees have assessed the major risks to which the charity is exposed, including operational, financial, reputational, and safeguarding risks. Systems and procedures are being developed to mitigate these risks, with particular attention to safeguarding vulnerable beneficiaries and ensuring culturally sensitive service delivery. The trustees recognize the importance of building community trust and maintaining transparent operations. Regular risk reviews will be conducted as the charity develops its activities to ensure mitigation strategies remain appropriate and effective.
Objectives and Activities
Purposes and aims:
The charity exists to promote social inclusion for the public benefit by working with people in London who are socially excluded on the grounds of their ethnic origin, religion, belief or creed, particularly members of the Kurdish community including survivors and victims of genocide in Kurdistan. Our aims include relieving the needs of socially excluded individuals and assisting them to integrate into society through providing local network groups, coordinating engagement with service providers, and offering recreational activities. Additionally, we aim to develop the capacity and skills of the socially and economically disadvantaged Kurdish community by encouraging learning in English, mathematics, computer literacy, Kurdish language and culture, faith principles, and community rights and responsibilities.
Main activities undertaken:
During the reporting period, the charity focused on establishing robust governance structures and developing strategic plans for future service delivery. The trustees devoted time to understanding the specific needs of the Kurdish community in London, particularly genocide survivors, and identifying gaps in existing service provision. Foundational work included developing partnerships with relevant service providers and community organisations to ensure future activities are culturally appropriate and effectively meet beneficiary needs. Whilst no active service delivery occurred this year, comprehensive planning has positioned the charity to commence educational programs, community networking initiatives, and social welfare activities in future periods.
Public benefit:
The trustees have had regard to the Charity Commission's guidance on public benefit when reviewing the charity's purposes and planning future activities. The charity's work addresses social exclusion and disadvantage within the Kurdish community in London, providing clear public benefit through promoting integration, developing skills, and improving quality of life for vulnerable individuals. Future activities including educational programs, community networking, and recreational services will deliver tangible benefits to a sufficient section of the public who face barriers to participation in society. All activities are designed to be inclusive and accessible to those most in need within the target community.
Achievements and Performance
During the financial year ended 31 December 2024, the charity undertook essential foundational work to establish governance structures and develop strategic plans aligned
with our charitable purposes. The trustees conducted research into the needs of the Kurdish community in London, particularly those affected by genocide and social exclusion, to ensure future services are appropriately designed. Progress was made in building relationships with potential partners including service providers and community organizations who can support our mission. Whilst no charitable expenditure was incurred during this period, the groundwork laid positions the charity well for delivering educational programs, community networking initiatives, and social welfare services in future reporting periods.
Financial Review
The charity had no income or expenditure during the financial year ended 31 December 2024. The accounts have been prepared on a receipts and payments basis in accordance with Charity Commission requirements for small charities. There were no financial transactions during the reporting period, resulting in a nil balance at year end. The trustees are developing fundraising strategies to generate resources for delivering the charity's purposes, including educational programs, community networking activities, and social welfare services for the Kurdish community in London.
Reserves policy:
The charity currently holds no reserves as operations have not yet commenced. Once fundraising begins, the trustees will develop an appropriate reserves policy to ensure financial sustainability whilst maximizing resources available for charitable activities. This policy will consider the charity's operational requirements, the need to maintain adequate working capital, and the importance of financial stability for long-term service delivery. The trustees recognize the importance of building sustainable funding streams to support ongoing work with the Kurdish community, particularly vulnerable individuals including genocide survivors.
Plans for Future Periods
Looking ahead, the trustees plan to commence active fundraising and begin delivering services aligned with the charity's purposes. Priority activities include establishing educational programs teaching English, mathematics, and computer literacy to children, adolescents, young adults, and mothers within the Kurdish community. The charity will develop local network groups to encourage community participation and facilitate engagement with service providers to ensure services better meet the needs of Kurdish community members. Plans include providing recreational and leisure activities for vulnerable individuals, with particular focus on supporting genocide survivors and those experiencing social exclusion. The trustees are committed to building sustainable programs that empower the Kurdish community and promote effective integration into wider society.
Trustees' Responsibilities Statement
The trustees are responsible for preparing the Trustees' Annual Report and accounts in accordance with applicable law and regulations. The trustees have elected to prepare the accounts in accordance with the Charity Commission's receipts and payments basis appropriate for small charities. The trustees must not approve the accounts unless they are satisfied that they give a true and fair view of the charity's financial activities during the year and its financial position at year end. In preparing these accounts, the trustees have taken reasonable steps to ensure the accounts are not misleading and do not contain material misstatements.
