events. The purpose of this was, in all cases, raising awareness,
and educating members of the public on the IW.
We gave talks to:

Coffee mornings
•
Community Groups,
•
Horticultural Societies
•
Church congregations
•
Women’s Institutes
We visited schools, working with STEM subject teachers to
engage in educational and awareness activities with pupils with
ages ranging from 5 to 16.
We attended local fairs and shows across the IW with awareness
stands and free posters and educational information. These
included:

Shorwell Midsummer Fair,
•
Wolverton Manor Garden Fair,
•
The Royal Isle of Wight County Show
•
The Isle of Wight Biosphere Fair
We responded to multiple reported sightings of the Asian Hornet -
all of which proved to be European Hornets or other similar
insects. There were no positive sightings of the Asian Hornet on
the IW. We used each call out as an awareness, education and
recruitment opportunity.
We have recruited and trained volunteers as required during this
year, our focus still remains on awareness. Our main recruitment
and training will begin in the coming year. We plan to recruit and
train volunteer groups in defined geographical areas on the Isle of
Wight to allow swifter response to reported sightings. This will
benefit the public by delivering swifter responses to their calls..| |Statement

and enclosed population. We have been doing AH awareness
events for some time and it has been encouraging to meet

Our message is definitely getting through.
We can confirm that we have had due regard to the Charity
Commission’s guidance on public benefit when carrying out our
