Independent Examiner’s Report to Brumby Gymnastics Academy
The Trustees present their annual report and financial statements for the period ended 31 March 2025.
The financial statement have been prepared in accordance with the accounting policies set out in note 1 of the financial statements and comply with the charity's (governing document) the Charities Act 2011 and “Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102)’’ (effective 1 January 2019).
Objectives and activities
The promotion of community participation in healthy recreation in particular by providing sporting facilities for participation in a variety of gymnastic disciplines and other comparable sporting activities as a means to promote healthy and active lifestyles.
Public benefit
The Trustees have paid due regard to guidance issued by the Charity Commission in deciding what activities the Charity should undertake.
Achievements and performance.
Significant activities and achievements have been made against the set objectives.
Staffing
Two coaches have successfully completed the level 3 women’s artistic gymnastics course and are currently putting the new knowledge into practice.
There are a number of young learners who have undertaken their core proficiency course and are continuing to develop leaderships skills under the guidance of experienced coaches.
Generally, within the academy, opportunities for enhancing the skills of coaches have been supported with CPD opportunities for adding additional qualifications as well as higher level qualifications.
Programme
Classes have continued for recreational, competition, adult and boys along with sessions for pre-school parent and toddler groups. Children who are home schooled attend a session at the gym which has also been established with great success.
A new initiative has seen taster sessions offered in some North Lincolnshire schools working in collaboration with the council.
Facility / Equipment
The lack of floor space at the current facility means the amount of sessions and numbers is limited and so to support with the expansion plans a Government UKSPF grant for £9,000 has been secured. The plans are to expand the overall footprint of the building in 2025.
The Academy has purchased additional pre-school equipment to support the new ventures as listed above.
Annual safety checks on all equipment continue to be in place and yearly checks are undertaken by Continental Sports.

Competitions
There are no outside competitions held at the club but there is an annual club championship held for all levels of gymnasts and medals/certificates are awarded.
The Academy do attend a number of external competitions throughout the Yorkshire and Humber region for all levels including girls’ and boys’ competitions, as well as friendly events. There has been a significant amount of success at these competitions.
Financial review
The introduction to introduce a direct debit scheme has proven successful and is managed internally being monitored by a full-time coach to ensure compliance. Any new starters can pay by cash or card if they choose to do so but once they enroll as a member then the direct debit system will be implemented.
Reserves Policy
Brumby Gymnastics Academy’s restricted funds (Grant funding) falls outside of the definition of free reserves. Free Reserves are Brumby Gymnastics Academy’s unrestricted funds which are freely available to spend on any of the Charity’s purposes. Brumby Gymnastics Academy’s Trustees have approved the need for reserves to cover unexpected eventualities not identified in the business planning.
The agreed target amount of these reserves would cover:-

6 months running costs in the event that the charity has to be wound up

Unexpected repairs and renewals up to £30,000
Total reserves target is £75,000.
As at the year-end free reserves were £39,024. Restricted funds total £nil.
Plans for future period
The plans for next year include looking into the possibility of an extension and a professional grant writer has been approached to support the process.
The club currently have a Head Coach who is looking to reduce his hours. The Academy will be looking to appoint a replacement Head Coach.
Structure, governance and management
The Charity is constituted under a governing document having registered as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation.
The Charity is affiliated to British Gymnastics (BG) and Yorkshire Gymnastics (YGA). British Gymnastics is the governing body association.
Recruitment and appointment of trustees
Trustees are recruited based on expertise required by the charity and their enthusiasm for the charitable objectives of the charity.

Safeguarding
The club has one welfare officer, this is kept under review but there have been no safeguarding concerns. All staff, including volunteers, have a DBS which is renewed every 2 years and safeguarding is compulsory for all.

Independent Examiner’s Report to Brumby Gymnastics Academy
I report to the charity trustees on my examination of the accounts of the charity for the period ended 31 March 2025 which are set out on pages 5-6.
Responsibilities and basis of report
As the charity’s trustees you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the of the Charities Act 2011 (‘the Act’). I report in respect of my examination of the charity’s accounts carried out under requirements section 145 of the Act and in carrying out my examination I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act.
Independent examiner's statement
I have completed my examination. I confirm that no material matters have come to my attention in connection with the examination giving me cause to believe that in any material respect:

accounting records were not kept in respect of the charity as required by section 130 of the Act; or
-
the accounts do not accord with those records
I have no concerns and have come across no other matters in connection with the examination to which attention should be drawn in this report in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
