Financial Review

Review of the charity’s financial position at the end of the period (SORP Para 1.21)

This is the end of the first Financial Year (FY) for Lottie’s Way. The Turnover for this FY has been a total of £22,864.87. Through various programs and initiatives, the Charity strives to break the cycle of poverty and give adults and children the tools they need to build a better future for themselves and their communities. The Charity has throughout the year ran a host of events and through use of the Just Giving platform received donations as well as direct payments to the Charitie’s Bank Account. Further activities have involved events such as raffles, walking, running, pool competitions/leagues, shirt sales, mud runs among other activities. In the year to 31 December 2024, the End of Year Bank Account Balance of £10,367.06. The total grant allocations were £17,000 with the Trustees agreeing that at any given time, a Reserve figure of ~£5000 needs to be retained for the general running of the Charity as well as a general resilience.

Statement explaining the policy for holding reserves stating why they are held (SORP Para 1.22)

Lottie’s Way will hold limited Reserves to cater for any liabilities that the Charity incurs because of the organisation ceasing to operate. Current Reserves remain just in line with liquidity guidelines that the Charity agreed to ensure enough resilience, taking account of overall income balanced against grants for the FY. Healthy donations and income collected from various events throughout the FY years has enabled surplus income.

Creditors that are the key consideration with the Reserves level set include in the case of Lottie’s Way no longer running as a going concern, and which require the holding of reserves. These are Subscription for funding collection platforms such as ‘Just Giving’, the platform the Charity currently uses and any future changes as the Trustees see fit, and costs associated with running events for fund raising purposes.

The principal sources of funds come in the form of donations and predominantly from events organised by independent supporters as well as those organised by the Trustees of the Charity. The Trustees continue to consider avenues of fundraising that will enable the Charity to remain a going concern.

Lottie’s Way core activities revolve around the following:

• Providing financial support to charities and organisations who are dedicated to enhancing the life of young adults and children worldwide.

• Supplying school materials, such as books, uniforms, and supplies, for students in need.

• Collaborating with organisations and schools worldwide to identify and support children in need of educational assistance.

Investment policy and objectives including any social investment policy adopted (SORP Para 1.46)

There is currently no investment policy given the current size of the charity and turnover. The Charity needs to remain liquid and able to adapt to any unforeseen issues. That said, as the Charity grows, consideration will be given to avenues of investment that enable passive avenues of income to be explored, to augment the current fund-raising activities and donations that are the prime source of income for the charity.

A description of the principal risks facing the charity (SORP Para 1.46)

• Reduced donations from supporters or inability to run events that enable supporters and Trustees to raise funds.

• Uncertainties relating to pandemics or other such activities that restrict ability to run events to generate income.

HOW IT BEGAN

Lottie’s Way – The Charlotte Hope Foundation was created in memory of Charlotte Hope. Charlotte was tragically killed, aged just 19, by a drug driver on 9th April 2022 near Astley, Shropshire, whilst driving her mum home. Charlotte was passionate about volunteering, having helped with the Taking Football to Africa and Beyond Charitable Appeal (TFTAAB) her whole short life. She loved Kenya and had volunteered at the amazing Restart Centre in Gilgil, a home for rescued street children, when just 16. Charlotte was a student at Edgehill University training to be a primary school teacher with the intent to eventually teach in Kenya to continue her volunteering at Restart.

In memory of Charlotte funds were raised for Restart, making an incredible £56,000. As a result, Charlotte’s brother, Chris, decided to set up Lottie’s Way – The Charlotte Hope Foundation, with the aim of raising funds for the underprivileged young adults and children across the globe to assist in education and feeding initiatives.

A NEW BEGINNING

January 2024 saw Lottie’s Way created. Extensive work from Christopher Hope (and others) ensured Charity status, Just Giving for charities, Gift Aid and Bank Accounts were created. And we were off. We had no idea how much we would raise or how many people we would be able to help.

Throughout the year a host of events were held from through fundraising pages on Just Giving, through raffles, walking, running, pool competitions/leagues, shirt sales, mud runs, to being accepted as a Station Charity for RAF Shawbury. Lottie’s Way owes a huge debt of thanks to a multitude of people who have assisted, fundraised or, purely ‘been there for us’ in 2024.

FUNDRAISING EVENTS

THERE HAVE BEEN TOO MANY TO MENTION ALL BUT YOU KNOW HOW MUCH IT MEANS TO US.

5KM A DAY – RUN (AND/OR WALK) – Jamie Gordon started this trend in December 2023, and we decided to keep it going. Every month volunteers completed a month of 5km a day ending with Jamie completing December. Huge assistance from so many, including the incredible Shawbury Joggers. There was even a month completed in the heat of Oman. The event raised over £4000.

POOL LEAGUE/SHIRT SALES/DONATIONS – The Elephant & Castle in Shawbury has held continuous Pool competitions, shirt sales and fundraisers all year long. Over the year we estimate the pub, where Charlotte worked part-time and was considered as the ‘pub daughter’ raised over £3000.

GARDX INTERNATIONAL TAKES ON TOUGH MUDDER – The Gardx team completed a 10km Tough Mudder – Raised over £1300

STANTON ARMS CHRISTMAS RAFFLE – Raised an impressive £712.

SNOWDEN CHALLENGE – A huge team including many from Shawbury and the Elephant & Castle completed a Snowden Trek in all weathers, in one day we had sun, rain, sleet and snow!

ARMED FORCES MATCH DAY & RAF HOME INTER SERVICES FOOTBALL AT SHREWSBURY TOWN FC – Raised £484

NOPEY (NEIL HOPE) TOP TABLE ON RETIREMENT – Raised £1100

ATC OLD BOYS GOLF – Raised £955

TAKING FOOTBALL TO AFRICA AND BEYOND APPEAL (TFTAAB) - KENYA DELIVERY TRIP

TFTAAB naturally sits as a sister of Lottie’s Way given it is where it really all began. The Appeal continues from strength to strength, passing the huge milestone of now delivering over 400000 items to 68 countries worldwide. Whilst intrinsically linked TFTAAB operates purely voluntarily, with no funds and will continue to do so. No money from Lottie’s Way is used to fund TFTAAB. That said, as part of the hugely successful 2024 Kenya distribution visit the team, on behalf of Lottie’s Way, spent some allocated funds for some of the places held close to our hearts.

HOPE HOUSE ORPHANAGE – Mountain View – Nairobi – Received a donation of baby formula.

A total of £1,193.82 Was spent from Lottie’s Way.
