As a Member Society of The Arts Society (the operating name for the National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts Societies (NADFAS)), the Society shall have as its objects:

a) the promotion and advancement of the public in the cultivation, appreciation and study of the arts, in particular, but without limitation, the decorative and fine arts;

b) the conservation and preservation of the artistic heritage of Wokingham and the surrounding area for the benefit of the public, in particular, but without limitation, the decorative and fine arts; and c) the advancement of arts and culture, but without limitation, the decorative and fine arts .

For the pursuit and fulfilment of the Society’s objects its powers shall include the following: a) to arrange lectures for its Members; b) to arrange study groups, tours and visits to private houses, museums, exhibitions and other places of interest for its Members; c) to arrange related activities of an educational character for children, young people and other members of the public; d) to arrange voluntary heritage, preservation and recording work by its Members in relation to the decorative and fine arts; e) to make donations from its funds to charities and schools for the furtherance of its objects; and f) to undertake any other lawful things in fulfilment of such objects.

Summary of the main achievements of the charity during the year

Lecture programme We have held 10 lectures both in person and online, covering a wide range of topics: fine art, architecture, decorative arts, digital art and historical art. Wee have been educated, entertained, and challenged us with a wide range of topics, including David Hockney, Colour in English Garden Design, The Great Exhibition and the Establishment of the V&A and Caravaggio.

Visits Visits were very popular and covered a range of locations; Kelmscott, Dorney Wood and Pitzhanger Manor. Study Days

We have enjoyed some outstandingly educational study days this season which have been very well supported. The subjects included Nordic Arts, The Art of Cornwall and the Venice of Bellini and Carpaccio. Young/Community Arts We had another productive year supporting our partnership schools; Maiden Erlegh School and St Crispin’s School. During 2024/25 St Crispin’s School used our grant of £500 to provide theatre trips, art gallery visits, sheet music, Digital Theatre + subscription, singing lessons and instrument lessons. These usually support children who may not otherwise be able to afford access to these activities. In 2024/25 Maiden Erlegh School used our funding of £500 for photography equipment. The School say ”this has been invaluable to our young photographers here at Maiden Erlegh School. Students at GCSE and A Level have really benefitted from the equipment that you helped us buy”.

We have also agreed a further £500 donation to support art workshops for young people as part of the Wokingham Arts Trail in September 2025. Increased grants to schools are budgeted in subsequent years Recruitment

We’re actively recruiting more members to the Society and have been spreading the news about what we do, in the local press. Lecture reviews in Wokingham Today have helped to do this. We have also relaunched our Facebook page and have 125 followers. We have commissioned an excellent promotional video showing what we do, which we have used in a number of locations. We are delighted that so many of our members have brought guests along to lectures this season and many of these have gone on to become members. Our numbers stood at 224 at the financial year end; a year end on end improvement since the end of Covid.
