Having joined the benefice as Rector in the second half of 2024, much of the focus of this year has been around getting to know the Parish and its operation, and for the Parish to get to know me. It has been a joy and a privilege to share in the worshiping life of this community over the last year, and to get to know so many of you. Much has been happening over the last year. We’ve seen: an ever growing community at our midweek Communion services, with its vitally important coffee and biscuits afterwards; a prayerful Holy Saturday Service at St Andrews and a joy filled festival in the summer; a fun filled Messy Maundy Thursday service and a memorable Crafts, Karaoke and Christingle at All Saints. I could, and probably should go on, as I’m sure I have failed to mention more events and moments than I could possibly have space to fill here. Please do feel free to share with me your favourite moments from 2025. I am so grateful to everyone who enables the life of our parish to function and flourish. Particularly to Charlotte and Beth who do so much to ensure our Church is available as a place of welcome, community and fun. We’ve also seen the pausing of our Parish Magazine, and a celebration of its legacy, as we continue to discern what its shape will be in the future. I am deeply grateful to everyone who has supported the Magazine throughout the years. 2 We have also deepened our relationships across the Benefice with shared services throughout the year, including in Holy week and for our patronal festivals. A particular highlight was our first (as far as I’m aware) Benefice service at St Andrews in the summer, which for me acted as foretaste of what might be possible once the renewal project is completed. Much has happened to bring the project at St Andrews closer to fruition, Jonathan Prest’s tireless work to drive this project forward must be commended. We are increasingly hopeful that more visible progress will be made in 2026. 2025 also provided an opportunity for us to pray, pause and consider our priorities and hopes as a community. This culminated in a PCC vision day in October, out of why came a renewed vision to: ‘Become a church that prioritises creating life-changing opportunities to encounter God for people of every age, for our local community, and for everyone who needs a place to belong.’ This renewed sense of purpose is already bearing fruit as we head into 2026. The ground that has been prepared and the seeds that have been planted, are starting to show new shoots which are very encouraging. Challenges, particularly financial, do lie in the year ahead. But my hope and prayer is that this preparation will enable us to bear fruit that will last. Thank you for your continued support and our shared ministry in our communities. Reverend Chris Curry, Rector 3 ## **Electoral Roll** _Jenny Jarvis (Electoral Roll officer)_ Under Church of England rules the electoral roll for the parish of All Saints, St Andrew’s Chilcomb & St Peter’s Chesil had to be completely renewed last year. This has to be done every 6 years, on this new roll we have a total of 66. The electoral roll is always open to any newcomers who are regular worshipers of either church, age 16 or over, have been baptized & are a lay person application forms are available in the pink folder in All Saints church, please help support All Saints by joining the electoral roll. ## **Church Wardens’ Report** _Sam Cairns & Pam Denison_ _Church Wardens_ 2025 was a year shaped by growing unity across our benefice, steady service, and new forms of welcome. We give thanks for the new members who joined our congregation this year. Each new face reminds us of the importance of being a welcoming, connected spiritual home. We continue to reflect on how best to serve our local community and respond to its needs, seeking to be an open and inclusive church at the heart of parish life. In this spirit, plans were laid in 2025 for monthly community breakfasts and Pints of View gatherings in our local pub, beginning in 2026. We piloted, and now warmly welcome, well-behaved dogs at Sunday services. This has helped some people feel more able to attend worship and reflects our commitment to inclusion and belonging. We also upgraded our AV software, making service preparation simpler and more effective for the AV team. 4 Our engagement with the wider community was especially visible during Advent, when we hosted Christmas crafts for local adults. The wreath-making event was particularly successful, drawing new people into the church building and offering a joyful space for creativity, conversation, and connection during a busy season. We acknowledge that we are entering a time of financial challenge and currently face a funding shortfall. Despite this, we remain thankful for God’s faithfulness and for the generosity of church members who give their time, resources, and one-off gifts. We are also grateful for the many unseen acts of service that quietly sustain church life. Ongoing care of the church building continues, from routine maintenance to larger aspirations. Looking ahead, we hope to raise funds for a second toilet, which would significantly improve accessibility and hospitality. Finally, we give heartfelt thanks for the people who enrich the life of our church. We are blessed by the commitment and organisation of Charlotte, our outstanding Church Administrator, and by the creativity and care of Beth in her role as Children and Families Worker. Together with many faithful volunteers, they help us live out our calling. We remain blessed by God, and we seek, in turn, to be a blessing to others. 5 ## **Parochial Church Council (PCC)** The members of the PCC, which includes representation from St Andrew’s, Chilcomb, meet every other month with ad-hoc communications between meetings. Our Safeguarding Officer is Pam Denison, and Evelyn Cleaver is the Safeguarding Administrator. One of the main responsibilities is making sure that everyone with a key role has the correct DBS check and that all certificates are up to date (they need renewing every three years); this includes ensuring all safeguarding training courses are undertaken and completed. The Diocese provides each Parish with a Parish Safeguarding Dashboard; an online system that gives assurance to parishes that they are complying with statutory requirements and Church Of England policies, and explains what actions need to be taken. We are currently 90% of the way through Level 3 (there are three levels). ## **Winchester Deanery Synod Report** The Deanery Synod is made up of representatives from every church in and around the Winchester area. Our representatives are Steve Jarvis and Evelyn Cleaver. Deanery met three times during the period. Agenda items included: June 2025 – A presentation from Sarah Keen from the Diocesan Office about the funding application submitted to the Church of England’s Strategic Mission and Ministry Investment Board (SMMIB). The SMMIB oversees the distribution of a significant national fund, to support the Church’s vision and strategy for growth and transformation in local communities. Winchester’s application includes a Benefice Development Programme so is one to watch. 7 Nov 2025 – Fascinating insights given by David Evans, who lives in our Deanery but works for the Diocese of Gloucester about the workings of that Diocese in relation to Deaneries. Feb 2026 – Talk from Reverend Canon Jonathan Herbert, Chaplain to the Gypsy, Roma and Traveller Community in the Diocese of Salisbury; and a disappointing response to the application submitted by the Diocese in June to the CofE Investment Board (see above) resulting in Bishop Philip employing the services of a consultant from his own fund to enable the bid to be revised which is expected in Summer 2026. The Deanery Finance Chair reported the good news that all churches in the Deanery [including ours] have met 99% of Common Mission Fund targets at the end of the current financial year. ## **Children and Families** ## _Beth Robertson - Children & Families Worker_ ## _Messy Church_ Messy Church has gone through some changes in the numbers of children and families who join us each month. The latter part of 2025 has seen a wonderful increase again and we are welcoming between 70 - 85 children and adults. We offered activities on the third Friday of the month, excluding January and August. The Messy Church times have changed this year as we wanted to welcome families from All Saints Pre-school. We now start at 3:15 and finish at 4:30pm. In this time we offer refreshments for the children and adults, craft activities, a story and music to finish. It has been wonderful that Becca Jones has joined the team to do the story and singing at the end of some of the Messy sessions. This has been incredibly popular with children and adults. 8 Small Saints continues to run for 2 sessions during term time. This is always a Tuesday and Thursday, 10 - 11:30am. Children have the opportunity to play and adults to chat with other adults, something that is often really needed. Small Saints is a welcoming group for babies, toddlers and their adults. Our sessions can really vary on the numbers who join us, but this is beneficial for those who join us as some children prefer quieter groups, as do some adults, where they are able to chat to people they get to know through coming to Small Saints. ## _Easter Activities_ Messy Easter was offered on Maundy Thursday and welcomed 63 people! What an absolute blessing for everyone to see, hear and enjoy together. We prepared 5 activities for children and adults to enjoy together. The sun was shining, which was wonderful because it meant Rev’d Chris was able to tell the Easter story outside, while the church was prepared for the shared meal of jacket potatoes, cheese, beans and salad. ## _Summer Activities_ Messy Play sessions were added to the usual Small Saints sessions. These were very popular and attended by between 25- 40 children each time. It was wonderful to see the garden area being used by children for lots of messy fun. 9 Before the end of the school term some of the parents at Small Saints said they were really going to miss the Small Saints sessions during the holiday. We listened to this and decided to continue to run Small Saints sessions during the summer holiday. We welcomed over 20 children to each of the sessions. This included our regular families, but we also saw new families in the holidays as people were looking for groups that still run. It is very unusual for baby and toddler groups to continue through the Summer, so this was really appreciated by parents and carers, and their children. ## _Messy Christmas_ We held a Messy Christmas session on the last day of All Saints Primary School term. It was a real joy to see families come to celebrate Christmas with us at All Saints. ## _Christmas Activities 2025_ We were able to bring Christmas activities and joy to many people throughout Advent: Craft, Christingle & Frozen Karaoke Fun Afternoon Three Small Saints Christmas Play Sessions Messy Christmas Christmas Eve Crib Service ## _In Summary_ Our Small Saints numbers remain positive and families are keen to cross over between Small Saints and Messy Church. We continue to welcome good numbers at each session. 10 Our Messy Easter session was a great success and it was wonderful to be able to provide a meal for families at Messy Easter. Our Small Saints Christmas sessions were really popular, and very positive for those who joined us. This year we were so lucky and had Father Christmas visit all the children. ## **Music** ## _Pam Denison_ Music continues to be an important part of our worship here at All Saints. At the 9am service on a Sunday we have hymns and a Mass setting, played on either the organ or the piano. At the end of the service there is an organ voluntary. Pam Denison usually plays for this service, but Paula Claisse has stepped in a couple of times as deputy. At the 10:30am service we have two worship leaders; Sam Jones and Pam Denison, who take it in turns. If anyone is interested in playing an instrument in church one Sunday, please speak to Pam. In the summer Pam led a scratch choir who sang Evensong in the church at Chilcomb as part of the Chilcomb Festival. At Christmas there was an evening of Carol Singing around the village in Chilcomb, and she led the choir for the Carols by Candlelight service made up of regular choir members and new faces. The choir sang two carols, both arranged for the choir by Pam Denison, as well as leading the congregation and singing descants. New singers are always welcome: please talk to Pam if you are interested. 11 In March 2025 we had a 12 hour Music Marathon in church, raising money for church funds. There were various performers - pianists, singers, a guitarist, and Winchester Rock Choir. It was an enjoyable day, with a relaxed and encouraging atmosphere for the performers. **Flowers in Church -** _Sylvia Whalley_ Louise and Debbie have been stalwarts helping with the flowers , thank you both. Flowers are only being currently done for church festival times but if anyone has a special occasion they'd to celebrate with flowers please let us know. As always we welcome any extra ## help! ## **Eco Church** _Debbie Cramp_ The Diocese now has an Environment Officer (EO) to support churches with general sustainability solutions as well as participating in the Eco Church Awards Scheme. There have been revisions to the implementation and achievement of these awards due to some key issues like energy efficiency improvements that many small congregations in historic churches face. I met with Sam Scott (EO) as I could not attend a workshop day that was organised but thank you to those who did to represent All Saints. Mary Jackson kindly offered her support in this endeavour, and we met to review how we got to our Bronze Award and 12 what actions are ongoing and what targets have been set to be worked towards to gain a Silver Award. We concluded that like many other churches the bigger solutions to areas like energy efficiency lie beyond our means at present but are being considered by the PCC. This does not mean that the continued implementing and recording of small scale contributions in the five key areas of; Worship and Community, Community and Global Engagement, Buildings, Land and Lifestyle cannot play an important part in improvements to our Caring for Creation practices. We have a number of ideas across the five areas. As a community we look forward to us all working towards achieving these in the coming year. Financial Report – see over… 13 ## **END OF YEAR 31[st ] December SIGNED FINANCIAL ACCOUNTS** ## **Financial report and accounts for the year ending 31st December 2025 Parish of All Saints Winchester with St Andrew’s Chilcomb and St Peter Chesil** The attached accounts show the finances of the various funds of the church including the General Fund, the designated Reserves, Projects and Church Hall funds and the restricted funds of the Friends of St Andrew’s Chilcomb. Restricted funds also include an organ fund of £1,673. The Friends of St Andrew’s made a small surplus during 2025 after paying for preparatory surveys for their re-ordering project, and hold restricted funds of £115,783 for this and the ongoing repair and maintenance of St Andrew’s church. The PCC holds four designated funds. The Church Hall fund shows a deficit of £786 for the year but this is very positive considering that a new heating unit was installed at cost of £9,000 without dipping into the Church Hall Reserve fund, which now stands at £13,000 towards future repair needs. The Parish General Reserve fund stands at £12,000 which would cover barely two months’ expenditure should our income fail for any reason. This falls short of our desire to have six months’ worth of running costs (including staff salaries) in cash reserves. The Projects Fund stands at £11,100 which is intended for the construction of additional toilet facilities at All Saints. At the end of 2025, the General Fund stood at £2,582. Income was £67,856, a little less than in 2024, whilst expenses at £69,040 were £2,000 higher than in 2024, mainly due to the increase in the Common Mission Fund payment we made to the Diocese mainly towards the cost of clergy pay, housing and pensions. The year end saw a deficit of just under £1,200. Whilst not a large sum, this is the first year which has ended in deficit for a long time, and we do not have the reserves to continue with a deficit budget, so increasing our income in 2026 is vitally important. The use of the church and Mancy Room by outside groups is increasing, which helps our funds, as well as raising our profile in the community, but we depend on our 40 regular givers for the monthly cash flow to balance. We are thankful to them all. More regular contributors will always be welcome! The PCC has continued to employ a children and families’ worker for 15 hours a week and an administrator for 10 hours per week, as well as cleaners for the church and hall. The finance team consist of the PCC Treasurer, Katy Hughes, Gift Aid Secretary, Wendy Harrison, Friends of St Andrews’ treasurer, Rolf Hawkins and PAYE officer Ruth Godden. We are grateful to Pam Denison, our Safeguarding Officer and Elvelyn Cleaver.. ## **Church Life Report** The Church Life Report for 2024 was presented by Rev Chris celebrating all that has been done throughout the year ending April 2025. ## **Treasurers Report - Katy Hughes** The Friends of St Andrew’s accounts are now incorporated into the All Saints accounts for the first time. We more than broke even during the previous year. However this year is more challenging due to rising costs and the increase in employee salaries (which we joyfully give). We ideally need to find an additional £250-300/month to cover the increasing costs. It costs about £1500/week to maintain our ministry here in this place. 22 The summary of the financial position is published in the Church Life report with the accounts. ## **Appointment of the Independent Examiner** It was put to the meeting that John Murray is appointed as the Independent Examiner for the Accounts.
