## **Governing document**

## **Recruitment and appointment of new trustees**

When considering co-opting trustees the Board has regard to the requirement for any specialist skills needed and fully discuss the suitability of all applicants.

## **Key management remuneration**

The trustees do not receive remuneration and there are no remunerated key management personnel.

## **Risk management**

The trustees have a duty to identify and review the risks to which the charity is exposed and to ensure appropriate controls are in place to provide reasonable assurance against fraud and error.

## **REPORT OF THE TRUSTEES For The Period 15 April 2024 to 31 March 2025**

## **OBJECTIVES AND ACTIVITIES**

## **Objectives and aims**

The objects of the charity, as defined in the governing document, are as follows:

- The preservation and repair of an ancient building and site of St Margaret's Church, The Street, West Raynham, Fakenham, and maintenance of its churchyard, for the benefit of the local community of the villages of Raynham (East, West, and South Raynham) and Helhoughton, neighbouring towns and villages, and wider visiting public.

- The advancement of education for the public benefit, in particular but not exclusively by creating a centre for learning about heritage conservation and development of traditional and new skills in restoration of ancient buildings and churchyard management.

## **Public benefit**

The trustees consider that they have complied with their duty to have due regard to the guidance on public benefit published by the Charity Commission in exercising their powers and duties, as can be seen in the activities and achievements above.

## **ACHIEVEMENT AND PERFORMANCE**

## **Charitable activities**

The trustees comprise a group of individuals in the community in West Raynham in North Norfolk. They have come together and founded the charity in April 2024 in order to repair and conserve the incredible site in the village dating back from Norman times.

During this first year, the trustees successfully applied for grant funding from the National Lottery Heritage Fund towards the development phases of the planned works on site. Following receipt of the first tranche of funds in November 2024, emergency works commenced in early 2025 to secure the ruins, begin immediate repairs and stabilisation works.

The trustees have applied for a considerably larger amount for the delivery phase and further long term projects, which includes creating a centre of excellence in churchyard management of ruins and also an environmental haven for flora and fauna and delivering educational programmes for key skills.

## **FINANCIAL REVIEW**

## **Reserves policy**

Due to the nature of the charity's activities and objectives, the trustees do not feel the need to have a formal reserves policy in place. Funds are obtained for future and planned work on the preservation of the church and strict budgeting is in place to ensure those funds are used where most needed.

Approved by order of the board of trustees on 13 June 2025 and signed on its behalf by:

Mr J P Hickman - Trustee
