The Trustees present their report together with financial statements for the period ended 30 June 2025.
The reference and administration information set out on page 1 forms part of this report.
Structure, governance and management
Constitution
The Othery Village Hall is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation governed by a constitution dated 11 April 2024, registered charity number 1207808.
Following the end of the first accounting period, but prior to approval of this report the for unincorporated charity Othery Village Hall (charity number 304604) made a transfer of assets and liabilities to Othery Village Hall (charity number 1207808). This transfer was formally completed on 28 October 2025.
Objectives and activities
The objects of the CIO are to establish and run a village hall and to promote for the benefit of the inhabitants of the parish of Othery without distinction of sex, sexual orientation, age, disability, nationality, race or political, religious or other opinions the provision of facilities for recreation or other leisure time occupation of individuals who have need of such facilities by reason of their youth, age, infirmity or disablement, financial hardship or social and economic circumstances or for the public at large in the interests of social welfare and with the object of improving the conditions of life of the said inhabitants.
The Hall was used throughout the year for a variety of activities including a children’s pre-school group, Pilates, astronomy (Somerset Levels Stargazers), gardening club, the Somerset branch of the Western Front Association, short mat bowls club, Playford Dance Group, church events, Parish Council meetings, school performances, PTA, community information events, music nights, fundraising activities including quiz nights, brunches and music performances, village Christmas party, harvest supper, plays, training events (including CPR and Defibrillator), elections and annual village Street Fayre parking. The Hall also houses the village archive.
The Hall continues to run a pub night each Friday, which started when the village pub closed, as a service to the community within its fundraising activities. A subsidiary trading company, The Other Island Ltd, was set up in November 2024 to run the bar, with profits to be donated to the charity as Corporate Gift Aid.
Independent catering vans also visit the Hall car park by rotation on Fridays, which allows villagers to have some food and partake of a variety of different cuisines along with a social drink and chat.
The Hall is available for private hire and has been used amongst other things for wedding receptions, anniversary and birthday parties, funeral wakes, community social functions and fundraising events.
The running costs of the Hall are kept as low as possible by the work of the trustees and other volunteers.
Routine tasks undertaken by the Committee include meeting and greeting hirers, updating social media, checking the Hall and car park, buying bar stock, staffing the bar, putting out recycling and rubbish bins, bookings, processing payments, raising invoices, correspondence, changing key codes, management Committee administration, maintenance matters, monthly parish magazine reports, marketing, fundraising and answering enquiries.

Public Benefit
The Trustees confirm that they have referred to the guidance contained in the Charity Commission’s general guidance on public benefit when reviewing the Trust’s aims and objectives and in planning future activities.
Financial review
This is the first period of accounts for the Charity, the Charity was incorporated on 11 April 2024, with the first accounting period ending on 30 June 2025.
Total income in the period totaled £17,901, after expenditure of £11,999 a net surplus was generated of £5,902. As at 30 June 2025, the free reserves of the charity stood at £4,702.

In accordance with our terms of engagement we have prepared for your approval the financial statements of Othery Village Hall for the period ended 30 June 2025 on pages five to seven from the accounting records and from information and explanations you have given us.
As a practising member firm of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales (ICAEW), we are subject to its ethical and other professional requirements which are detailed within the ICAEW’s regulations and guidance at http://www.icaew.com/en/membership/regulations-standards-and-guidance.
This report is made solely to you, in accordance with our terms of engagement. Our work has been undertaken solely to prepare for your approval the financial statements of Othery Village Hall and state those matters that we have agreed to state to you in this report in accordance with ICAEW Technical Release TECH08/16AAF. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we do not accept or assume responsibility to anyone other than you for our work or for this report.
You have approved the financial statements for the period ended 30 June 2025 and have acknowledged your responsibility for them, for the appropriateness of the financial reporting framework adopted and for providing all information and explanations necessary for their compilation.
We have not verified the accuracy or completeness of the accounting records or information and explanations you have given us and we do not, therefore, express any opinion on the financial statements.

NOTES TO THE ACCOUNTS FOR THE PERIOD ENDED 30 June 2025

The accounts have been prepared on the receipts and payments basis and in accordance with Charity Commission’s guidance.

Neither the Trustees, nor any person connected with them, have received any remuneration during the period.

No Trustees during the period were reimbursed for reasonable expenses totaling.

The Trustees confirm, in accordance with the Charitable Incorporated Organisations (General) Regulations 2012, that at the period end the CIO did not have any outstanding guarantees to the third parties nor any debts secured on the assets of the CIO.

The accounts cover the period from 11 April 2024 to 30 June 2025, there are no comparative figures as this is the charities first period since incorporation.
