- PROTECTION AND IMPROVEMENT OF THE PHYSICAL AND NATURAL 

ENVIRONMENT, IN PARTICULAR THROUGH THE ESTABLISHMENT AND 

MAINTENANCE OF A COMMUNITY ORCHARD IN MARCH AND THE SURROUNDING AREA WHICH SUPPORTS A DIVERSE ECOSYSTEM AND IS SPECIES-RICH. 

1. To meet object 1, we have been working to raise support for, and find land for, a Community Orchard in March. To do this we have engaged with local government, housebuilders and residents through social media, held monthly open meetings and held a stall at the March Christmas market. 

2. Swapping seedlings and seeds, sharing of information and expertise on gardening, fruit and vegetable harvest tasting session, days out including a visit to the Cambridge Botanic Gardens and the garden crawl, all relating to object 2.

1. We received 541 signatures in support of a community orchard in **Summary of the main** March. **achievements of the charity** 2. We have had discussions about the orchard with an estimated 40- **during the year** 

2. We have had discussions about the orchard with an estimated 4050 people at the March Christmas market. 

3. We have a regular community of volunteers up to 20 local people. This group benefit from seed and seedling swaps, as well as sharing knowledge. Group members report feeling an improved sense of community and social support, with other social groups being created as a result, therefore improving the conditions of life of these local people. 

4. The orchard was discussed at a Fenland District Council Committee Meeting and while it was not approved as the land identified is instead to be used for a skate park, we are continuing to explore other areas of land as potential sites for the orchard.

We are currently holding reserves awaiting land to plant a community **Brief statement of the** orchard on, or if unsuccessful within the next financial year we plan to **charity’s policy on reserves** use funding to offer to plant fruit trees in the front gardens of residents in March to offer some of the benefits of a community orchard but in a different format.

The main spending was relating to room hire for the regular monthly meetings which have improved the quality of life of participants, as well as expenditure for the March Christmas market which engaged more members of the local area.
