||Lorna Bagilhole was appointed as the BAWP Community Connector in
June 2022. Rachael Blake (one of the Bawtry Ward Councillors at
Doncaster Council) was the inspiration behind the creation of BAWP.
Lorna worked over and above her very limited part-time paid role to get
the Project off to a great start. She operated under the direction of the
initial four committee members of BAWP. Bawtry Town Council
generously agreed to fund Lorna’s role during her final twelve months in
2024.
With advice from Rachael Blake, the committee worked with Voluntary
Action Doncaster (VAD) to apply for BAWP to become a Charitable
Incorporated Organisation (CIO). Even with this advice and support, this
process took much longer than was expected.
We were encouraged when BAWP was eventually registered as a CIO in
March 2024. This facilitated the opening of a BAWP bank account and
allowed applications for financial support to be submitted to a greater
range of trusts and other charitable funders.
Three members of the committee became the initial trustees of the
charity - Alison Schofield, Sue Rose and Ivor Greer. Unfortunately, Joan
Beck, to whom we are indebted for having directed the work and who
chaired the committee for almost two years leading up to its registration
as a Charity. Joan was unable to become a trustee of the CIO because of
her illness and untimely death in February 2024. As the Project
developed, we owed much to Joan’s experience and wisdom (from her
many years as the director of Adult Social Care for Doncaster Council).
We are seeking to recruit new trustees.
Much has been achieved in 2023 and 2024 for the public benefit of the
residents and communities of Bawtry and Austerfield. This included
developments at the Mosaic Trust (a former quarry and open space in
Austerfield) providing funding for notice boards and clearly marked paths.
Improvements were funded for St Nicholas Church Hall and Bawtry Town
Hall - both of which are well used by local community groups. Support
was provided for pre-school reading groups and some “tea & tech”
courses at Bawtry Community Library.
..|

## Section D Achievements and performance

We have developed and coordinated a webpage called “Your BAWP” **Summary of the main** with details of the various clubs, societies and community activities which **achievements of the charity** operate in Bawtry and Austerfield. A hard copy of this resource was **during the year** available in Bawtry Community Library. Another activity involved researching “walk confident” routes and encouraging older folk to walk and enjoy the community. Leaflets promoting these walks have been produced. We have worked with the local Mayflower School to arrange and fund activities to “reach across generations”. These were much appreciated by older residents and the children at school. A booklet was produced with “testimonies” bridging the generations.

We have developed a Community Allotment – called Gilbert’s Garden. This is on a plot made available by Bawtry Town Council and funded by a grant from Doncaster Council’s Environmental Pride programme. Several of the volunteers have said how much their involvement helped with mental stress.

There has been a weekly Men’s Club with a reach of about 12 men (not all at the same time). Activities have included for chatting, listening to speakers and doing various practical tasks at the Bawtry Town Hall. A programme of projects to improve appearances of key features of the community has been drawn up.
