Ball Tampering Allowed Trust – Lads & Dads Vs Cancer

Prepared By Simon Burrows BSc(Hons) ACA – Chair of Trustees Founder Paul Ferriday

Honorary President – Michael Atherton OBE. Broadcaster, Journalist and Former England Cricket Captain.

Background

Following a lifesaving operation in March 2021 to remove a six-ounce aggressive metastasis secondary cancer tumour, the founder felt compelled to try to do more to support worthwhile cancer causes and try to positively change the stereotype associated with men’s attitudes towards life threatening cancer symptoms.

His personal cancer started back in 2008, when unexpectedly he was diagnosed with advanced testicular cancer necessitating the removal of his testicles, and subsequently in 2019, the removal of several lymph nodes. The objective of the trust is to raise awareness and[1] ambitiously attempt to destigmatize the outdated male attitude towards serious illness and earlier prevention. In addition, to raise funds to support local Northwest community serving hospice facilities, with an emphasis on improving palliative care facilities for the benefit of the patient, their family and loved ones.

Purpose

Charitable objects

The objects of the CIO are: the relief of sickness and the preservation and protection of good physical and mental health of men with or at risk of testicular cancer and their families in the United Kingdom, in particular but not exclusively through the provision of patient education, advice information and support services and the funding of research into testicular cancer, its causes and treatment, the useful results of which will be published for the public benefit.

Mission:

To reduce male cancer fatality rates, destigmatize outdated male attitudes towards cancer, specifically encourage regular self and professional medical examinations. Promote physical and mental health awareness for men at risk of testicular and prostate cancer in the UK.

Activities:

Education, Raise Awareness and Raise Essential Funds for the purpose of donations. Provide employee wellbeing talks, male sports club’s talks, promotional advertising and raise funds to donate to northwest community-based cancer care facilities.

Financial Achievements to date

In the financial year from inception to 31[st] December 2024, the Trust raised over £58,000 in donations, primarily through a lunch in association with MTX Contracts, attended by over 250 people.

There were no charitable donations made by the Charity during the course of the year, and the monies received were held in reserves, having been carefully invested in risk free accounts, in that period.

In the course of 2025, further monies have been raised, and donations made, which will be fully reported upon in those accounts. At the time of writing over £120,000 of funds have now been raised, and £50,000 given to hospices & cancer care centres.

Future Plans

As of October 2025, the impact and value of our achievements to date have been reflected not only from the written acknowledgements received from Springhill, East Cheshire Hospices and Beechwood cancer Care Centre respectively, but also from individuals who have achieved increased life expectancy due to preventative tests carried out during employee wellbeing talks by qualified nursing staff. One male individual was diagnosed with Prostate cancer following a PSA test and subsequent MRI scan, previously unknown the individual has subsequently undergone surgery and chemotherapy and has recently been declared cancer free!

Beyond this we are also attracting media attention recognizing our contribution to the Northwest Community and also establishing notoriety and support of local cricket, rugby and football clubs, providing vital education and awareness to the community playing membership, volunteers and supporters.

Notes to the Financial Statements for the Period 11 March 2024 to 31 December 2024

1. ACCOUNTING POLICIES

Basis of preparing the financial statements

The financial statements of the charity, which is a public benefit entity under FRS 102, have been prepared in accordance with the Charities SORP (FRS 102) 'Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) (effective 1 January 2019)', Financial Reporting Standard 102 'The Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland' and the Charities Act 2011. The financial statements have been prepared under the historical cost convention.

Income

All income is recognised in the Statement of Financial Activities once the charity has entitlement to the funds, it is probable that the income will be received, and the amount can be measured reliably.

Expenditure

Liabilities are recognised as expenditure as soon as there is a legal or constructive obligation committing the charity to that expenditure, it is probable that a transfer of economic benefits will be required in settlement and the amount of the obligation can be measured reliably. Expenditure is accounted for on an accruals basis and has been classified under headings that aggregate all cost related to the category. Where costs cannot be directly attributed to particular headings they have been allocated to activities on a basis consistent with the use of resources.

Taxation

The charity is exempt from tax on its charitable activities.

Fund accounting

Unrestricted funds can be used in accordance with the charitable objectives at the discretion of the trustees.

Restricted funds can only be used for particular restricted purposes within the objects of the charity. Restrictions arise when specified by the donor or when funds are raised for particular restricted purposes.

Further explanation of the nature and purpose of each fund is included in the notes to the financial statements.

Financial instruments

The Charity only enters into basic financial instrument transactions that result in the recognition of financial assets and liabilities like trade and other debtors and creditors, loans from banks and other third parties, loans to related parties and investments in ordinary shares.

Financial assets that are measured at cost and amortised cost are assessed at the end of each reporting period for objective evidence of impairment. If objective evidence of impairment is found, an impairment loss is recognised in the Statement of Comprehensive Income.

For financial assets measured at cost less impairment, the impairment loss is measured as the difference between an asset's carrying amount and best estimate of the recoverable amount, which is an approximation of the amount that the Charity would receive for the asset if it were to be sold at the balance sheet date.
