PRESENT: Phil, Katia, Doug, Sara, Sally, Rich, Dennis, Mike, Phil L, Mary, Colin R, Len, Claire APOLOGIES: Isobel, Paul

Purposes read by Sara.

Minutes of the last meeting are signed by the President.

PRESIDENTS REPORT:

 The vote on the Club’s closure has been taken with the results as follows:

 2 – abstained

 3 – to keep the club open

Therefore by the majority of the vote the decision to close the Club is taken forward.

President contacted James Mathews (District Governor) to advise him of our decision.

President also contacted Sue Miller (District membership officer), her response was read out at the meeting.

The Club has had an opportunity to discuss this matter and share thoughts and views.

One thing discussed was the difficulty with organizing different community events due to the ever increasing insurance regulations.

An email from Judith Jones (District treasurer) was read out regarding the necessity of Club’s officers positions and which ones were not that important in her views.

President hasn’t yet responded to any of the received emails.

The Club members were made aware that when you close the Club the notice to close the charter is on and this can take up to 12 months. If during these 12 months the Club manages to get more members and will view itself operational again it is then Club’s obligation to pay the subs for the 12 months the Club was dormant. The members did not agree this was right.

The Club has also received a suggestion from the District to reduce charity account by £7 per member to cover the cost of the insurance. The members were outraged by this suggestion as we have always donated every penny of the money raised back to the community and not to cover any Lions expenses.

Dennis shared that he was very sad to see the Club close as he had already seen 2 Clubs close in the past.
