## **1. Introduction:** 

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.”

— A parish continues to be a sacred space where hearts are lifted in worship, lives are shaped by Scripture and Sacraments, and fellowship becomes the foundation of a Christ-centered community. It is within this spiritual home that we journey together, drawing strength from one another and from our Lord, deepening our commitment to living as His disciples in a challenging world. 

As we reflect on the past year, our hearts are once again filled with deep gratitude. We have witnessed the gracious hand of God leading us through seasons of growth, service, and transformation. His enduring mercy and steadfast faithfulness have sustained our parish through every moment of joy, uncertainty, and renewal. With thankful hearts and humble spirits, we now present the Second Annual Report of Salem Mar Thoma Church, Southampton, UK, on behalf of the Executive Committee. This report offers a comprehensive overview of the ministry activities, organizational efforts, and outreach initiatives that have taken place in the past year. The accompanying financial statements have been diligently prepared, ensuring full compliance with charity law and upholding the values of transparency and stewardship as guided by the Charity Act 2011. As we continue to grow in faith and unity, may our parish remain a radiant witness to the love, hope, and — peace of Christ a light shining in the darkness, a refuge for the weary, and a beacon of faithfulness in our community and beyond.

## 1.1.6. Risk Management 

The Executive Committee has assessed the key operational risks faced by the Parish. We confirm that systems are established for ongoing review, allowing us to identify and take appropriate steps to mitigate these risks effectively. Risk management is regularly addressed during Executive Committee meetings. Additionally, we have introduced a Health and Safety Policy, which is consistently updated and maintained to ensure the safety and well-being of our community. 

## 1.1.7. General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) 

In accordance with the requirements, Salem Mar Thoma Church, Southampton, UK has Implemented a GDPR policy. All trustees have been informed about the regulation and their respective responsibilities to ensure adherence to the procedure. 

## 1.1.8. Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) 

In accordance with the requirements outlined in the Children Act of 1989, our Church has adopted a policy focused on safeguarding children. To reaffirm our ongoing commitment to their protection and welfare, we conduct regular monitoring and annual reviews of this policy. 

To maintain the highest standards of child protection, we have instituted a comprehensive screening process through the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS). As a result, we ensure that DBS checks are thoroughly carried out on all individuals entrusted wit h responsibilities related to children’s activities . 

- 1.1.9. Daily Operations 

The Trustees convene routinely, entrusting the daily operations of the charity to the Vicar, Secretary, Treasurer and Accountant with confidence and trust. 

## 1.1.10. Appointment of Trustees 

Each year, before the start of the fiscal year, trustees are elected. They may be appointed by the general body, selected by the members they represent, or nominated through the Bishop's decision. These appointments are made in accordance with the organization's constitution. 

## 2. Our Parish 

Salem Mar Thoma Church is part of the UK, Europe, and Africa Diocese of the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church, headquartered in London and led by Rt. Revd PD Dr. Joseph Mar Ivanios Episcopa. 

## 3. Mission & Objectives 

Salem Mar Thoma Church, Southampton, UK, is committed to promoting the Christian faith through regular worship services that honor the traditions of the Mar Thoma Church. In addition to supporting the spiritual growth and providing pastoral care for its members, the Church actively fosters ecumenical relationships within the local community and with other churches.

The Church also plays a vital role in evangelistic and charitable efforts, both locally and globally, through volunteer-driven initiatives. A key focus is placed on nurturing the faith of children and youth, aiming to instill a deep commitment to Jesus Chr ist as their Lord and Savior. By sharing Christ’s teachings and values, the Church strives to develop believers who will serve as powerful witnesses of His love and truth in their communities. 

## 4. Brief History of the Church 

In the early 2010s, members of the Mar Thoma Syrian Church relocated to Bournemouth, Portsmouth, Southampton, Worthing, and surrounding areas for work and other opportunities. With them, they brought their faith and a deep desire for spiritual fellowship. Under the leadership of Revd Dr. Jose Punamadom from St. John's Mar Thoma Church in Hounslow, UK — our Mother Parish — a prayer group was established in Southampton. 

What began as a humble gathering quickly gained momentum. With the steadfast support and invaluable guidance of St. John's Mar Thoma Church, during the tenure of Rev. Dr. Jose Punamadom, we established a monthly Holy Communion service. Our first Holy Communion was celebrated on November 29, 2013, at St. John's Church in Hedge End, near Southampton. 

The Christmas message of 2013 was particularly memorable, as it was delivered by His Grace, The Most Revd Dr. Theodosius Mar Thoma Metropolitan, the former Diocesan Episcopa and the current Malankara Metropolitan. His Grace's visit was an inspiring moment for our prayer group, strengthening our resolve and unity. 

As the prayer group grew, so did our activities. In addition to the monthly Holy Communion service, we organized Cottage Fellowships, annual Satellite Conventions of the Mother Parish, family meet-ups, and Vacation Bible Schools (VBS). Spiritual guidance from various Bishops and Achens, including a visit from Rt. Revd Dr. Thomas Mar Theethos Episcopa during Passion Week on March 25, 2018, further contributed to our growth. 

From 2016 to 2019, the leadership and guidance of Rev. Shibu Kurian were deeply appreciated by the prayer group. During the years 2019 to 2023, under the tenure of Revd Binu J. Varghese, the church's — various organizations and fellowships such as the Choir, Youth/Teenage Fellowship, Sunday School, — and Sevika Sangam, Edavaka Mission began to function regularly and systematically. This period marked the gradual transition towards the formation of an independent congregation of the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church. 

A significant turning point was reached when 40 families signed a petition to the Diocesan Episcopa, Rt. Revd Dr. Isaac Mar Philoxenos Episcopa, requesting the formation of a Congregation of the Malankara Mar Thoma Church. Responding to this request, the Diocesan Episcopa officially elevated the prayer group to the status of a Congregation, naming it Salem Mar Thoma Congregation, Southampton, UK, effective September 1, 2022. We celebrated our first Holy Communion as a Congregation on September 10, 2022. 

Revd Sijo John assumed his role as our Vicar in May 2023. Under his leadership, we continued to hold regular worship services, and monthly cottage prayers were conducted on the first and third Fridays of

each month across our four prayer group areas. Various church organizations were encouraged to hold meetings, strengthening their activities and fostering a sense of community. Additionally, more individuals from in and around Southampton began attending services. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to Achen for his dedicated service. 

As per Kalpana No. 233/12/23-24, the status of the Congregation was elevated to that of a Parish by the Most Rt. Revd Dr. Theodosius Mar Thoma Metropolitan, effective from the 1st of January 2024. Our Parish was officially named Salem Mar Thoma Church, Southampton, UK. The first Holy Communion of the Parish was celebrated by Revd Merin Mathew early on the morning of January 1, 2024, alongside the Watchnight Service. This marked a historic milestone, as our recognition as Salem Mar Thoma Church coincided with the elevation of our Zone to Diocesan status on the same day. 

Since 1 May 2024,, Salem Mar Thoma Church, Southampton is under the leadership of our new Vicar, Revd Subin Mathew Parayil. He leads the Church with a vision focused on growth and fellowship. The Church now consists of 82 families, with additional families joining our community. We have also actively participated in the activities of St. John's Mar Thoma Church and contributed to the broader Mar Thoma Church community within the UK & Europe Diocese. We are deeply thankful for the support of the wider Mar Thoma community and look forward to continuing our spiritual journey in the years ahead, nurturing our faith and fostering a strong sense of unity among our members.

Salem Mar Thoma Church is administratively part of the UK, Europe, and Africa Diocese, led by the Diocesan Bishop, Rt. Revd PD Dr. Joseph Mar Ivanios Episcopa.

## 7. Vicar 

Revd Subin Mathew Parayil resumed his duties as Vicar in May 2024, alongside his family, with Mrs. Jinu Lilly Joseph. Together, they actively encourage the church and its members in their spiritual growth and fellowship. Revd  Subin Mathew Parayil also serves as the Bishop's Secretary and the Vicar of Immanuel Mar Thoma Church, Cardiff

The Annual General Body meeting for parish was held on 13[th] April 2024 at St James Church. The Annual Report for the year 2023-2024 and annual accounts with an income of £58,460.43 and expenditure of £28,410.85 was presented and passed. The Annual Budget for the year 2024-2025 with an income of £67,805.00 and expenditure of £48,565.00 was presented and passed.

## 14. Activities for the Year 2024 – 2025 

By the abundant grace of the Almighty, the Parish has been blessed with the opportunity to engage in a wide range of activities aimed at fostering strong and lasting bonds within our community. Salem Mar Thoma Church is united in a shared vision to thoughtfully plan and implement impactful programs. These initiatives are designed with the primary objective of deepening fellowship and strengthening the spiritual unity of our members. Through active participation and engagement, the committee aims to offer meaningful opportunities for spiritual growth, enhance interpersonal relationships, and cultivate a deep sense of belonging among all attendees. These programs will serve as a foundation for collective worship, spiritual learning, and community building, ensuring that our church remains a vibrant, supportive, and nurturing spiritual home for all. 

## 14.1. Worship and other services 

The blessed sacrament of Holy Communion is reverently celebrated in Malayalam on the second Saturday and fourth Sunday of each month. Ordinary Worship Services are held on the first and third Sundays, with additional services on fifth Sundays conducted in English, aimed at encouraging active participation from the younger generations. Throughout the year, we come together for special services commemorating Zonal Sunday, Edavaka Mission Sunday, Education Sunday, Sevika Sangam Day, Youth Sunday, Christian Family Dedication Day, World Sunday School Day, Watch Night Service which enrich our spiritual journey. During these occasions, we follow the special worship order approved by the Mar Thoma Metropolitan, with respective parish organizations leading the services and prayers. We express our gratitude through special thanksgiving prayers for birthdays and wedding anniversaries. Following worship, we share in the warmth of Food Fellowship, further strengthening our community bond. 

## 14.2. Prayer Groups & Prayer Meetings 

The Parish is divided into four prayer groups, each named after its respective geographic location.

These prayer groups organize regular prayer meetings with two prayer groups alternating as hosts each month. These meetings not only strengthen the fellowship within the families but also help them remain resilient during challenging times. Additionally, the vicar ensure that family visits are conducted with prayer group secretaries playing a crucial role in coordinating and ensuring the visits are well-organized.

14.3. Farewell: 

Revd Sijo John, our former vicar was given a heartfelt farewell on 20[th] of April 2024 in appreciation of his dedicated service to Salem Mar Thoma church. During his tenure, achan played a vital role in guiding our church organizations. Under his leadership, church and it’s organizations were able to form and develop as independent bodies, contributing meaningfully to the life of the church through thoughtful and impactful programmes. 

We extend our sincere gratitude to Revd Sijo John for his invaluable contributions and pastoral care.

## 15. Events of the parish: 

The Parish is dedicated to uplifting the community through a range of activities aimed at nourishing the soul and deepening our connection with our Lord. These initiatives, including prayer gatherings and inspiring sermons, are thoughtfully organized to promote spiritual growth and fulfillment. As members unite, they cultivate a sense of unity and camaraderie, creating an environment filled with positivity, love, and respect. 

The four Prayer Group Area Secretaries, along with the Kaisthana Samithi representatives from each organization within our parish, worked collaboratively with the Salem Mar Thoma Church office bearers, including the Vice President, Secretary, Trustees, and lay ministers, to carefully review and plan each program for the year. 

## 15.1. First Holy Communion and Felicitation: 

On 20 April 2024, Salem Mar Thoma Church had the distinct honor of hosting Rt. Revd Dr. Joseph Mar Ivanios Episcopa, the Diocesan Bishop of the UK-Europe-Africa Diocese of the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church. During this momentous occasion, Thirumeni officially elevated our congregation to the status of a parish, marking a significant milestone in our church's journey. We also had the privilege of felicitating Thirumeni on his recent consecration as the Diocesan Bishop. Revd John Mathew C, the Diocesan Secretary, accompanied Thirumeni, adding to the significance of the event. The day was further enriched by the participation of 18 first holy communicants from our church, who partook in the sacred Mar Thoma Malayalam First Holy Communion, underscoring the spiritual depth and historic importance of the celebration. 

## 15.2. Salem MTC Sports Day: 

The Salem MTC Sports Day held on 14th July 2024 at Highbury Sports Center, Portsmouth, where sports enthusiasts from across the church came together to participate in friendly badminton and cricket matches. The event encouraged a strong sense of fellowship, with children and youth enthusiastically participating in a variety of games organized by the Sunday School and Youth Fellowship coordinators. These activities offered a joyful occasion for all members to connect, engage in friendly competition, and celebrate the unity within our church community. Mr. Shefley Mathew Puthenmadhom served as the Convener of Sports Day, ensuring the event was well-coordinated and enjoyable for all participants. 

## 15.3. Parish Day 

Our very first Parish Day was joyfully celebrated on the 14th of September at St. James Church, West End, Southampton marking a significant milestone in our journey as a parish. It was a moment of gratitude and happiness as we came together as one church family to celebrate our unity, faith, and the blessings we have received.

The chief guest, Revd Jacob P.T, v icar of St. Peter’s Mar Thoma Church, East London shared an insightful message on the importance of fostering strong connections within the church community. He encouraged us to build and nurture meaningful relationships. 

The traditional Kerala cuisine, especially the delicious sadya, was a true highlight of the day. Everyone came together in the spirit of fellowship to share this joyful meal, making the food fellowship a warm and memorable part of the celebration. 

## 15.3.1. A-Level Appreciation 

One of the most significant events of the year was to felicitate and recognize the efforts of our A-Level students, Mr. Bennet Geo Mathews and Mr. Abel Abraham Joseph. These students were honored with mementos as a token of appreciation for their dedication and hard work in successfully completing their A-Level studies. The parish community offered heartfelt encouragement for their future endeavors. 

## 15.4. Harvest Festival and One-Day Income: 

The Harvest Festival was joyfully celebrated on the 12th of October 2024, led by our Vicar, Revd Subin Mathew Parayil. Following the thanksgiving service, an auction was held featuring home-grown fruits, plants, homemade snacks, and various other items generously prepared and brought in by our church members. 

In keeping with tradition, members of the parish contributed their one-day income as an offering in support of the church’s mission initiatives. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all the organizations and prayer groups who lovingly prepared food for sale and to every member who wholeheartedly participated in the auction. 

A special note of appreciation is extended to Mr. Sam Thomas and Mr. Mathew M. Mathew for their dedicated efforts as the Harvest Festival Convenors, Area Secretaries and Executive Committee Members, whose leadership helped make the event a meaningful and successful occasion for our church community. 

## 15.5. Parish Convention 

The Annual Parish Convention was held from the 25th to the 27th of October 2024. We were blessed to have Revd Abu Cherian, the esteemed Vicar of Carmel Mar Thoma Church, Liverpool, as our guest speaker.Revd Abu Cherian delivered a series of inspiring sermons centered on the theme “Family: Celebration of Relationships.” He passionately encouraged all families to nurture their spiritual lives through faith, teamwork, and intentional quality time. His messages challenged us to reflect on family values, strengthen familial bonds, and uphold a Christ-centered home. 

The Men's Choir led uplifting singing sessions that resonated deeply with the congregation, creating an atmosphere conducive to spiritual reflection and connection. Their harmonious melodies not only enhanced the worship experience but also played a pivotal role in uniting the congregation through shared musical expression.The convention was a spiritually enriching experience for the entire parish, encouraging renewed commitment to family unity and Christian living.

15.6. Christian Family Dedication Day: 

Sunday, 27th October 2024, was observed as Christian Family Dedication Day by the Malankara Mar Thoma Church. It also marked the third and final day of our Parish Convention. Revd Abu Cherian, the – guest speaker, delivered an inspiring message based on Luke 2:41 52, offering deep insights into the spiritual foundation and unity of family life. 

## 15.7. Christmas: 

## 15.7.1. Carol Service: 

Christmas — the most cherished season of the year — brings with it immense joy, and our Christmas Carol service stands out as a highlight, drawing us all together as one church family to honour the birth of our Lord and Saviour. On 21st December 2024, we gathered at St. James Church, West End, for a heartfelt celebration filled with carol singing. The choir filled the air with melodies of hope and gladness, setting a festive tone titled “Go to Him in Bethlehem” . Various church organisations came forward with vibrant Christmas-themed programmes, turning the evening into a truly memorable occasion. Our vicar, Revd Subin Mathew Parayil, shared an inspiring Christmas message that reminded us of the true meaning of the season. 

## 15.7.2. Carol Rounds 

The Prayer Groups of our church gathered in harmony to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. Through uplifting songs and music, they spread the joyous message of Christmas with heartfelt carols. This collective effort not only shared the festive joy of the season but also strengthened the bonds of fellowship and goodwill, inviting everyone to join in the celebration of Christ's miraculous birth. The carol rounds were held on the following dates: 

Bournemouth Area on December 6th and 7[th] ,Southampton Prayer Group on December 7th and 8th, Portsmouth Area on December 15th, and Worthing Area on December 22nd. 

The carol rounds held in Worthing were a joyful and memorable experience, with representation from all prayer groups. It was truly a blessing to come together 

## 15.8. Watch Night Service: 

On December 31st, 2024, we celebrated the year-ending Watch Night Service followed by the Midnight Holy Communion. The service began with parishioners sharing their testimonies, reflecting on the numerous blessings they had received from the Almighty throughout the year. Our Vicar, Revd Subin Mathew Parayil, led the Holy Communion Service, offering an inspiring message centered on the importance of imbibing Christ’s guidance to lead a faithful life. He reminded us that as we move into the new year, it is essential to reflect on the teachings of Jesus, allowing His wisdom to guide our decisions, actions, and interactions. Living a faithful life means following Christ's example of love, compassion, and humility in our daily lives, remaining steadfast in our faith even during challenging times. Revd Subin encouraged everyone to renew their commitment to Christ, seeking His direction in

every aspect of life, and to walk with Him in love and service to others as we embrace the opportunities of the new year. 

## 15.9. Diocese Events 

## 15.9.1. Diocese Inauguration and Holy Communion 

The formal inauguration of the Diocese of the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church took place on 29th September 2024, officiated by our esteemed Metropolitan, Dr. Theodosius Mar Thoma Metropolitan. The event was graced by the presence of our Suffragan Metropolitans, Diocesan Bishop Rt. Revd P. D. Dr. Joseph Mar Ivanios Episcopa, various bishops, dignitaries, and the faithful members of the congregation. The occasion marked a significant milestone of our UK, Europe, and Africa Diocese, as it was celebrated with prayers, blessings, and a collective spirit of joy and commitment to the mission of the Church. The members of our church also actively participated in this auspicious event, joining in the celebrations with great joy and reverence. Salem Mar Thoma church choir members participated in our diocesan events and rendered beautiful songs as part of the Diocese Choir. 

## 15.9.2. Wayanad Rehabilitation Fundraiser Initiative: 

In response to Metropolitan Circulars No. 136 and 137 (UEA/CI/04/2024), all parishes and congregations were encouraged to dedicate time for prayer for those affected by the devastating landslide in Wayanad, India, which occurred on 30 July 2024. Additionally, it was advised to collect offertories and individual contributions on 11 August 2024 to support the relief efforts. Our church generously contributed £1,004.12 to the Diocese as part of this collection, demonstrating our solidarity and compassion for the affected communities. 

## 16. Charity : 

It is indeed a joyous moment to share that Salem Mar Thoma Church proudly extended its support to charitable causes by contributing £100 each to two esteemed organisations: 

- **Air Ambulances UK** , the national body supporting the vital, lifesaving work of 21 air ambulance charities across the country. Their efforts ensure timely emergency medical assistance for those in critical need. 

- **Samaritans UK** , a registered charity dedicated to offering emotional support to individuals experiencing distress, struggling to cope, or at risk of suicide. Their 24/7 helpline provides a compassionate ear to those in need across the UK and Ireland. 

- **Medical Aid :** A charity contribution of £2000 was made to support medical aid initiatives 

These contributions reflect our parish’s commitment to not only nurturing our own community but also extending Christ’s love and compassion to the wider society.

## 17. Organizations and Activities: 

## 17.1. Edavaka Mission: 

Every member of the Church is called to be a missionary, embodying such joy and assurance of salvation that they become a witness for Christ to everyone they encounter, regardless of their secular profession. The Edavaka Mission works alongside church members to strengthen their spiritual growth and extend outreach to the broader community, sharing Christian values and principles. Guided by the objectives of Intercessory Prayer, Bible Study, Witnessing and Sharing, House Visits, Prayer Meetings, and Gospel Outreach, our Edavaka Mission undertakes a range of activities to fulfill its mission. 

Every three months, the Edavaka Mission has been conducting combined prayer meetings hosted by various prayer groups, encouraging communal prayer and spiritual growth among members. This year, prayer meetings were held as below: 

31 August 2024 : Southampton 

23 November 2024 : Portsmouth 

22 February 2025 : Worthing 

Additionally, intercessory prayers are conducted on the second week of each month at the church, preceding the Holy Communion service, to seek divine guidance and support for our congregation. 

The Edavaka mission also plays a vital role in supporting the church convention, contributing to its success and spiritual impact. Furthermore, the Edavaka Mission encompasses the men's choir, which leads the praise and worship sessions during all these meetings. Their participation enhances the worship experience and contributes to the spiritual atmosphere of our gatherings. Through these efforts, the Edavaka Mission aims to nurture a vibrant spiritual community and actively engage in sharing Christian values and practices. Mr. Babu Thomas served as the Secretary of Edavaka Mission during the year. 

## 17.2. Sevika Sangham 

Sevika Sangam comprising woman above the age of 18 is an integral part of our parish under the guidance of the president Revd Subin Mathew Parayil, we had regular meetings every 2nd and 4th week after the holy communion service. These gatherings have provided a platform for worship, bible study sessions and opportunities to deepen relationships among members and with God. Throughout the year Sevika Sangam actively participated in both church and zonal activities. Members represented the UK, Europe and Africa annual conference and engaged in activities such as competitions. 

Sevika Sangam day was observed, and the members took charge of leading the church service. Sevika Sangam members have demonstrated their skills in the talent fest and X mas carol service. Continuing

the prayer cell on the first day of each month from18:00 to 23:00 provides a dedicated time for members to unite in prayer for the church, the future generation and the individual prayer needs.

## 17.3. Sunday School 

We give all praise and Glory to our heavenly father, Jesus Christ our saviour who empowers us and bless us for the spiritual growth of the Sunday School children. Our new academic year commenced on September 14th before the Holy Communion service. During the 2024-2025 academic year, we were blessed to welcome 83 children, ranging from Nursery/KG to Year 12, who consistently attended Sunday School classes. Classes alternate between two weeks of online learning and two weeks of face to face sessions. 

The in-person sessions are scheduled on 2nd Saturday and 4th Sunday before our Holy Communion services. Online sessions held on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month, prior to the Divine Service. 

Throughout this year, we have been blessed with 25 dedicated teachers both primary and assistant teachers who have played an essential role in delivering meaningful lessons. 

Zonal Exam 2023-2024: Zonal Annual Exam was held on July 7th, 2024, and we had 68 students registered for the exam. Out of these, 53 students attended, demonstrating their commitment and dedication to their studies, while 15 were unable to participate. 

Lenten Journey: During the 50 days of Lent, our Sunday School children diligently shared the Word of God. We are deeply thankful for the unwavering support from parents and teachers, who helped guide our children through this sacred time. Thanks to Biby Mathew for the video editing and upload to YouTube and Facebook. 

Vacation Bible School : Our Vacation Bible School, held on 31st May, June 1st ,2nd and 8th, was a vibrant and spiritually enriching event. Around 70 children participated, making it a memorable experience. Our VBS directors, Mr. Ernest Abraham and Mrs. Sumi Titus, led the program with great passion, ensuring that the children were spiritually fed through meditation, singing, and engaging games. We also extend our heartfelt thanks to our Vicar. Subin Mathew Parayil,VBS convenors, Mrs. Anupa Shefley and Ms. Anusha Thomas, as well as all the volunteers, parents, and teachers who made this event a great success.

Sunday School Talent Fest and Vidhyarambham: On September 7th, we celebrated Holy Communion and the Vidhyarambham ceremony, led by our beloved Vicar, Revd Subin Mathew. It was followed by our annual Sunday School Talent Fest, where children from all classes showcased their God-given talents. Their performances were truly inspiring, and it was a joy to see them celebrating their creativity in the presence of God. 

Sunday School Anniversary: The Sunday School Anniversary on October 12th, 2024, was a day of joy and gratitude. It began with a Holy Communion service, followed by a heartfelt musical performance 

by our children. Mrs. Anju Varghese, our Sunday School Secretary, read the Annual Report, and the event culminated in a prize distribution ceremony. 

World Sunday School Day: On November 2nd, 2024, we joined the global community in celebrating World Sunday School Day at Cotton Green Church, Tamworth. It was a day filled with fun and learning, where our children also participated in choreography presentations, representing our Sunday School. 

Christmas Carol Service: Our Sunday School children actively participated in the Christmas Carol Service on December 21st, 2024, singing beautiful medley songs that filled our hearts with the spirit of Christmas. 

Teachers' Retreat 2025: The Midlands Sunday School Teachers’ Retreat, held on February 1st, 2025, was hosted by our Sunday School. We were blessed to welcome teachers from various churches under the Midland Centre, where they gathered to refresh their spirits and renew their commitment to teaching the Word of God.

## 17.4. Youth Fellowship 

The Youth Fellowship actively participated in church life by assisting during Holy Qurbana and engaging in various community initiatives. Throughout the year, we maintained regular fellowship by holding inperson meetings after Qurbana services and online meetings every other Thursday. We hosted an Inaugural Event, organised a fun-filled overnight trip to FlipOut, and collaborated on a calendar fundraiser. At the Church Harvest Festival, our youth set up and ran a stall selling chicken nuggets. Youth ran a charity effort supporting dialysis patients in India, ensuring financial help reached those in

need. Through every event and act of service, our youths have grown stronger in faith and closer in community.

## 17.5. Choir 

The Salem Mar Thoma Church Choir, Southampton, continues to be a vital part of our church’s worship and fellowship, faithfully serving to glorify God through the ministry of music. Under the dedicated leadership of our Choir Master, Mr. Biby George Mathews, and Assistant Choir Master, Mrs. Reeva — Sara Sujin without whose tireless efforts, musical guidance, and steadfast commitment none of this — would be possible the Choir has grown stronger as an organisation, united in purpose and spirit. 

Guided by our Former Vicar, Revd Sijo John and our Current Vicar, Revd Subin Mathew Parayil, the Choir has led worship during Holy Communion services and played a key role in significant events such as the First Holy Communicants’ Service with our Diocesan Episcopa, the Harvest Festival, the Christmas Carol Service, and various Diocesan programmes. 

A special highlight was the Lenten Music Hour, which deeply enriched our spiritual journey through the season. With 36 members now officially registered with the DSMC, and with the continued support of talented instrumentalists, generous sponsors, and our loving church community, the Choir has continued to grow in faith, fellowship, and harmony.

19. Conclusion
As a faithful spiritual family. we have witnessed God's overflowing kindness and provision throughout
the past year. Through His unmerited grace. our parish has been lifted and guided forward. In spite of
our human frailties, the Lord's compassionate hand has shielded us, upheld us, and empowered us to
serve as His ambassadors.

## **1. ACCOUNTING POLICIES AND PRESENTATION OF FINANCIAL STATEMENTS** 

The  financial  statements  are  prepared  under  the  historical  cost  convention  and  are  prepared  in accordance with the Statement of Recommended Practice “Accounting and Reporting by Charities” [Charities SORP (FRS102)] and Charities Act 2011. 

## **Incoming Resources** 

Donations,  grants  and  other  forms  of  voluntary  income  are  accounted  for  within  the  accounting year. Income tax recoverable on Gift Aid donations and legacy is recognised when the income is received. 

## **Resources Expended** 

Expenditure is accounted for on an accrual basis. Management and administration costs are those incurred in connection with the administration of the charity. 

## **Funds** 

General Funds represent those funds that are not subject to any restrictions regarding their use and are available  for  application  to  the  general  purposes  of  the  charity.  The balance represents the unexpended resources held within the fund. Designated Funds are part of Unrestricted funds that have  been  set  aside  for specific  purposes  by  the  trustees.  These purposes are set out in note 2. Restricted Funds are those funds that must be spent for specific charity purposes as specified by the donor (Refer to note 3).

- i. One Day Income –Annually the amount of £500.00 from the total collected will be used to meet the specific needs of individuals or organisations outside the Church who are in dire financial need. It covers broadly three areas i) Educational Aidii) Medical Aid iii) Other Miscellaneous Aid for people in need. 

- ii. Special collection made for supporting a bereaved family. 

- iii. Receessa is collected from individual members and paid to the parent church as a contribution(Receessa) for the maintenance of Bishops, and the Lent fund (Uposhanam) is collected during Lent and is used by the parent church towards Orphanages and Destitute Homes (Homeless). 

- iv. Zonal Collection is made from our members and remitted to our Zonal (UK and Europe) Office. v. Charity - Fund raised to support the family of the church member.
