The charity was registered on 5th March 2024. The trustees present their annual report and financial statements for the period 5th March 2024 to 31st March 2025 and confirm they comply with the Charitable Incorporated Organisation Charities Act 2011.

## **Objectives and Activities**
## **Our Mission**
Is to provide information for people and their families when they have been diagnosed with Desmoid-type fibromatosis. The charity provides online links to information and resources about the disease. We also provide a small grant to help pay for unexpected costs for newly diagnosed people undergoing treatment
## **Our goals**
- To increase the awareness of desmoid fibromatosis tumours
- To provide information and support to anyone affected by a desmoid fibromatosis tumour
- To provide one-off grants for people that have been diagnosed with desmoid fibromatosis tumours to help with any unexpected costs
## **Achievements in the year to 31st March 2025**
In the first year of operation the development of an effective trustee meeting plan which has been instrumental in initiating activity to drive forward the implementation of our goals which has resulted in the following activity:
- New trustee start and induction
- In May 2024 the Charity recruited and welcomed a new trustee to the board primarily to support the charity with financial compliance. They were briefed on the charity's purpose; all policies and procedures; their legal obligations as a trustee and the charity commissions guidance on public benefit.
- Design and launch of the website with a reputable third party
- Desmoid Aid UK’s website was designed and launched at the beginning of 2024 (www.desmoidaiduk.com). The website serves as a tool to deliver our main goal of increasing awareness of desmoid fibromatosis tumours; providing information and support including how to access a grant for people affected by a desmoid tumour; donation platform and used for the promotion and reporting of fundraising activities.
- Implementation of Microsoft Office 365
- This provides the charity with email, file storage, security and team collaboration.
- Built relationships with key advisors
- Established relationships with expert medical advisors. Dr Andreas Napolitano who is a consultant medical oncologist at The Royal Marsden and Lucy Dean, physiotherapist at The Royal Marsden. Both give their time voluntarily should the charity require any expert opinion or medical guidance.
- Developed a social media presence
- Successfully opened accounts on key social media platforms – Facebook and Instagram which have been used to raise awareness and promote and report our fundraising activities
- Fundraising activities. Fundraising is at the centre of us being able to provide grants. The trustees wish to thank all donors and fundraisers for their invaluable support during the year in both our organised fundraisers and those that undertook events on our behalf.
- A plan and timetable for future fundraising events through the year and into the following year
- Walk 100 miles in September 2024 fundraising event
- Christmas raffle December 2024 fundraising event
- Implementation and deliverance of trustee quarterly meetings
- A calendar of meetings was established and successfully executed to facilitate the development and implementation of the charity’s objectives. These meetings also serve to establish sub committees on projects and allow for updates and key decision making when required.

## **1 Accounting policies**
**a)** Desmoid Aid UK is a registered charitable organisation (registered charity number 1207309).
## **b) Basis of preparation**
The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland (FRS 102) – (Charities SORP FRS 102).
Assets and liabilities are initially recognised at historical cost or transactional value unless otherwise noted in the accounting policy or note.
## **c) Public Benefit**
The charity meets the definition of a public benefit entity under FRS 102.
## **d) Going concern**
The trustees consider that there are no material uncertainties about the charity's ability to continue as a going concern.
## **e) Income**
Income is recognised when the charity has entitlement to funds, any performance conditions to the income have been met, it is probable that the income will be received and the amount can be measured reliably.
Income received in advance of the provision of a specified service is deferred until the criteria for income recognition are met.
## **f) Donations of gifts, services and facilities**
Donated professional services and donated facilities are recognised as income when the charity has control over the item or received the service, any conditions associated with the service have been met, the receipt of the economic benefit from the use by the charity of the item is probable and that economic benefit can be measured reliably. In accordance with the Charities SORP (FRS 102) volunteer time is not recognised.
On receipt, donated gifts, professional services and donated facilities are recognised on the basis of the value of the gift to the charity which is the amount that the charity would have been willing to pay to obtain services or facilities of equivalent economic benefit on the open market, a corresponding amount is then recognised in expenditure in the period of receipt.

## **1 Accounting policies (continued)**
## **g) Interest receivable**
Interest on funds held on deposit is included when receivable and the amount can be measured reliably by the charity; this is normally upon notification of the interest paid or payable by the bank.
## **h) Fund accounting**
Restricted funds are to be used for specific purposes as laid down by the donor. Expenditure which meets this criteria is charged to the fund.
Unrestricted funds are donations and other incoming resources received or generated for the charitable purposes.
Designated funds are unrestricted funds earmarked by the trustees for specific purposes.
## **i) Expenditure and irrecoverable VAT**
Expenditure is recognised once there is a legal or constructive obligation to make a payment to a third party, it is probable that settlement will be required and the amount of the payment can be measured reliably.
Irrecoverable VAT is charged as a cost against the activity for which the expenditure was incurred.
## **j) Debtors**
Trade and other debtors are recognised at the settlement amount due after any trade discount offered. Prepayments are valued at the amount prepaid net of any trade discounts due.
## **k) Cash at bank and in hand**
Cash at bank and at hand includes cash and short term highly liquid investments with a short maturity of three months or less from the date of acquisition or opening of the deposit or similar account.
## **l) Creditors**
Creditors are recognised where the charity has a present obligation resulting from a past event that will probably result in the transfer of funds to a third party and the amount due to settle the obligation can be measured or estimated reliably.

## **Trustees statement**
The trustees confirm that they have carefully considered the Charity Commission’s public benefit guidance when planning and delivering the charity’s activities. Throughout the year, our fundraising efforts including the successful launch of social media accounts on Facebook and Instagram, the organisation of key events such as the Walk 100 Miles in September 2024 and the Christmas raffle in December 2024, have been undertaken with due regard to ensuring public benefit. These achievements have enabled us to raise awareness, engage the community, and provide grants, thereby fulfilling our charitable purpose in accordance with the guidance.
