Structure, governance and management

The charity is governed by its governing document and is managed by the trustees and management who meet regularly to review activities, welfare decisions and finances. Trustees are responsible for ensuring the charity is run in accordance with its charitable purposes and applicable regulation.

Objectives and activities

The charity’s object is the relief of suffering and distress among dogs in need by rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming, and promoting responsible dog ownership.

Key activities include:

Public benefit

The main activities undertaken to further the charities purposes for the public benefit are described above.

The trustees have had regard to the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit and believe the charity provides public benefit through the rescue, welfare and rehoming of dogs, and by educating and engaging the public to support animal welfare and responsible ownership.

Achievements and performance

During the reporting period 148 dogs have been rescued and subsequently rehomed with new families/people on a permanent basis.

Becoming a charity has seen an increase in donations as we have been able to access tools such as Paypal giving fund, meta fundraising and other programmes as a registered charity which we have not been able to do before.

We continue to operate predominantly as a foster based rescue in order to assess and work with the dogs in the comfort of a realistic home environment. We have reduced and still have minimal kennel use however this does continue to have a large impact on our finances. We act purely for non profit and all funds raised or donated is used to fund kennel bills and pay for the transport of the dogs, vet bills, food, and general welfare.

Financial review

Total income for the period was £144,601.32 (2024: £162,474.82). Total expenditure was £139,465.68 (2024: £144,808.95). This resulted in a surplus of £5,135.64 (2024: £17,665.87).

The charity’s income is completely generated from supporter donations and rehoming contributions, together with fundraising activity. Expenditure is primarily on charitable activities including kennel fees, veterinary treatment, food and transport. There charity currently does not employ any person to undertake work for the charity.

Reserves policy

Reserves are kept in line with the charity commissions policy to ensure that we have sufficient funds to continue the objective of the charity.

Plans for future periods

The charity’s main objective for the following period is to source an operational premises. This will give the rescue the ability to help more dogs, whilst also reducing the kennel bills and allowing more members of the public to access the rescue in a more central place.

The charity plans to look at gift aid as we are currently not set up for that.

Incidents

The trustees confirm that there have been no serious incidents to declare or report.

Statement of trustees’ responsibilities

The trustees are responsible for preparing the Trustees’ Annual Report and the financial statements in accordance with applicable law and United Kingdom Generally Accepted Accounting Practice (UK GAAP), including FRS 102 and the Charities SORP (FRS 102).
