## **Cardinham Sports Club** ## **Report of the trustees for the year ending 31.03.2025** The Trustees of Cardinham Sports Club present their annual report and accounts for the year ended 31[st] March 2025. Cardinham Sports Club was registered as a charitable incorporated organisation (CIO) on 29[th] February 2024, towards the end of the previous financial year. All assets and liabilities of the sports club were handed over to the Cardinham Sports Club CIO. ## **Aims and purpose** Cardinham Sports Club serves to manage and provide sports facilities and activities in Cardinham parish in Cornwall, for use by the local community both within the parish and surrounding areas. Its purpose is to support activity that is of benefit to the parish and local community supporting cohesion and inclusion, recreation and health. ## **Objectives and activities** The object of the charitable incorporated organisation is the promotion of community participation in healthy recreation in particular by the provision or assistance in the provision of facilities for tennis, cycling and other forms of healthy recreation. ## **Review of activities and achievements** The Club enables members of the community and from further afield to play tennis, either as members, or by paid court-hire on a pay-and-play basis. The Club also organises other sportsrelated events, such as open tennis events, pickleball, croquet afternoons and cycle rides. ## **Financial review** Cardinham Sports Club held its annual general meeting on 29[th] April 2025. The financial report covers the period 1/4/24 to 31/3/25. The balance in the Club’s current account at 28/4/25 was £9257.94, the cash account stood at £228.80, and cash in hand was £638.91. Difficulties experienced changing signatories on the account have now been resolved, but there remain some missed payments for the 24/25 year to make up. This period included a period where the club’s account was blocked and some Direct Debits were cancelled. These will be made good – and outstanding amounts are shown overleaf. The bank has made a donation to the club of £100 by way of apology. This will show in 2025/26 accounts. Overall, 2024/25 performance has been largely in line with the previous year. The Club’s income for the year has benefitted from further increased membership and some successful fundraising and social events. Income through the floodlight meter however has dropped and does not meet the full year electricity costs. ## **Volunteers** The trustees of Cardinham Sports Club wish to thank everyone who has helped with organising events, carrying out maintenance and repairs of the clubhouse and court area, and otherwise supporting the Club. Without the generosity of their time the charity could not function. ## **Chairman’s report 2024-25** Another year, and look at the progress made. The number of members has stayed firm, in fact has risen marginally, and the number of those playing on a pay-and-play basis has gone up. Court use has continued to grow, which is brilliant, with morning groups, evening groups, the Wednesday social tennis group, as well as privately arranged games and sports events organised by our affiliate member, Cardinham Primary School. But it’s not just tennis - although we started the year 202425 with a slightly drizzly open tennis afternoon in April, this was followed shortly after by our quiz night with pasties (thanks again to Malcolm for being our ever-brilliant question-master). We participated in the Cardinham Community Event in July, running fun activities both indoors and outside the parish hall - again, the role of our members volunteering their time for this is much appreciated! Sadly, our pickleball event, cycle ride and croquet afternoon were all postponed because of the weather - and even the skittles evening at the London Inn had to be cancelled, as continuous torrential rain had invaded the indoor alley. So let’s hope for better weather next year. Meanwhile, behind the scenes, a lot has been going on - we have secured a long-term renewal of our lease for the land, which makes planning for the future so much easier. Thanks to all those involved in making this possible, including, of course, our landowner. We also struggled to maintain access to our club bank account while the change in signatories was being arranged, a surprisingly long process! but thankfully this has now (only very recently) been sorted. Thanks to everyone for their patience! Thanks in particular to Mark, Trevor and Lance for all they did to get this problem solved. We continue to try to keep the court surface in good condition, but no one can deny we are developing a large number of miniature potholes. It might not affect play yet, but it won’t be long before balls fly off at unexpected angles. .So now, with our stable membership numbers, our secure tenure of the land, and a growing interest not only in tennis but also pickleball and other courtbased games, we look forward to a bright future. Thanks to everyone who has helped everything go smoothly - Trevor for managing our finances, Kai for managing our links to the LTA, Chris for his secretarial duties and keeping everyone informed through his emails and the website, Viv for promoting safeguarding, Lance for taking the lead not only in many of our events, but also day-to-day repairs of the clubhouse. And of course a massive thanks go to all the other people, both members and non-members, who have helped us maintain the grounds, replacing floodlight bulbs, cutting hedges, strimming the grass, sweeping the court, clearing the rubbish, cleaning the club house, arranging electrical testing, and more.
