The trustees present their report and financial statements of the charity for the year ended 31st December 2025. The Trustees have adopted the provisions of the Statement of Recommended Practice (SORP) “Accounting and Reporting by Charities” (FRS102) in preparing the annual financial statements of the charity.
The financial statements have been prepared in accordance with the accounting policies set out in the notes to the accounts and comply with the charity governing document, the Charities Act 2011 and Accounting and Reporting by Charities: Statement of Recommended Practice applicable to charities preparing their accounts in accordance with the Financial Reporting Standard applicable in the UK and Republic of Ireland in October 2019 (Second Edition) **.**
## **Structure, Governance & Management**
The organisation is a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). The governing document is the CIO’s Constitution. The charity trustees are also its members. In the event of the charity being wound up the members are not required to contribute any amount.
## **Recruitment and Appointment of Trustees**
When new or additional Trustees are required, the Senior Minister submits nominations, and subject to their compliance with the constitution they are considered by the Trustees for election.
## Charity WHO OBJECTIVES WE ARE
The objects of the CIO are, for the public benefit:
a) The advancement of the Christian faith in the East Midlands and Yorkshire, in particular but not exclusively by:
(i) Providing a place of worship;
(ii) Educating people about the religion by providing workshops, Bible study groups, and courses;
b) The relief of those in need by reason of youth, age, ill-health, disability, financial hardship or other disadvantage and to promote and preserve good health through but not exclusively by the provision of funds, goods or services of any kind including the provision of counselling and support.
Now Church is a multigenerational and multiethnic church and community centre, which already operates two successful sites, with our original site in Langold, and our second site in Woodhouse, Sheffield. We are much more than a traditional church, having a major focus on our community development work.
Currently we run a whole range of activities and groups where we aim to develop and help the whole person, which then contributes to healthier and happier communities. Our current activities include: baby and toddler groups; kids clubs; youth clubs; senior clubs; warm spaces; social supermarkets; holiday activity clubs; craft groups; keep fit groups; volunteer opportunities, help with forms and benefits; talking and befriending services; signposting services and much more.
We work with a number of different organisations including: Citizens Advice; BCVS; From The Heart; Sainsburys; Aldi, local doctor's surgeries and schools.
We’ve been around since 1929, after a few people weren’t content with walking to Worksop each week to go to church and decided that their village in Langold also needed an active church. These few people gave their time, money and skills to establish what we now know as Now Church! In 2021 Now Church in Langold started working with Southern Light Community Church in Sheffield, and a few years later the two merged so that we are now one church in two locations! But we aren’t stopping there, with a heart to start new churches in other ex-mining areas we want to see whole communities transformed!

## 2025 HIGHLIGHTS

**A group of men went to Xcel in Bradford in November.**

## What happened
## IN 2025
## **NOW KIDS**
Now Kids continued to help children and families throughout the year with loads of different events, resources and support! Our Sunday programs kept on growing, with us now having three groups at Langold and two groups at Woodhouse, and the children have been working their way through the bible and learning about the character of God and how that can impact their daily lives.
In September we launched Now Kids Club on Thursday nights which is growing steadily. We also attended community events like Fun Palace at Worksop Library.
## **NOW GOLD**
Now Gold is a monthly meal for the over 65's in our community! Each time we meet we treat our guests to a hot dinner and pudding and give them the opportunity to mingle and spend time together. We love having a game of bingo too. Around 50 people come to each meal, and for some of these people this is one of the few times that they have contact with other people. At Christmas our Now Gold guests were treated to a performance by the local school which they loved! This year we’ve seen some of our volunteers really step up, taking on new roles and new levels of ownership of the project.
**NOW TOTS**
Now Tots is our playgroup, which serves parents and carers in our community. Throughout 2025 our sessions have been really popular, provinding a fun, and interactive experience for little ones whilst parents and carers get to connect and play. Each session has sensory play as well as laods of other toys. At the end of 2025 we launched Now Tots in Woodhouse too which continues to grow each week. We also support a playgroup in a local school with toys and activities and we have supported Foster East Midlands with toys and resources for some of their foster care training sessions.
## **NOW EAT**
Now Eat is the name for our community meal! It’s open to everyone to come and enjoy beautiful healthy food together. We love seeing all ages come together over food this year and were pleased to be able to provide an environmnt where people could come, feel safe, make new firends and socialise with others. Our Christmas Now Eat meal saw over 100 people attend. We were also able to host a Now Eat meal at our Woodhouse site this year too!
## **THE LOUNGE**
The Lounge is the name of our warm space, where every Tuesday and Wednesday at Langold and Tuesday and Friday at Woodhouse we welcome in loads of people who enjoy time together over some great drinks and delicious food. We work hard to make all the food we serve affordable, but there is no need to buy anything if you don’t want too! Just enjoy the space. It is at The Lounge where we are also able to help people with various things, including help with benefits, access to health, technology, or just to offer a listening service.
## **FOOD HUB**
The Food Hub is our commuinity grocery strore where customers donate £5 and can then do a mini-shop at one of our shops! This year we have served over 4500 people across both sites, which will result in 1000's of people having affordable accesss to food and importantly to fresh fruit and vegetables. We are incredibly grateful for the support we receive from Sainsburys and Aldi and for the food we are able to purchase from Fareshare, S6 Foodbank, In Kind Direct and His Food.
## **NOW YOUTH**
Now Youth continued to grow throughout 2025, creating spaces for young people to build friendships and explore faith together. Our weekly gatherings saw encouraging growth, with average attendance rising to around 30 young people across the year. In 2025, 27 of our young people attended Rock Nations, experiencing powerful times of worship, teaching and community. Eight of our under-18s also stepped out in faith by joining overseas mission trips, giving them the opportunity to serve others and grow in confidence.
## **VOLUNTEERS**
Now Church only does what it does becuase of a small army of volunteers! Some people give over 16 hours a week to help make it such a success and we really do apreciate it. Of course it isn’t just about time, it’s about skills and abilities too, where people use their specilised skills to make the charity successful. Our volunteers have gained cofidence and skills to help them in life, and it has given many a boost to help get them back into work. We have also had volunteers from local schools and colleges as well as students volunteering as part of their DofE award.
## **SCHOOL UNIFORM BANK**
Partnering with Poplars Church and From The Heart Charity The School Uniform Bank has continied to serve local families and has distributed 1000s of items of clothing to those in need. It is now permanently based at The Golden Ball but we still run pop up shops throughout the year to ensure that everyone can have access to it.
## **KENYA**
A team of 9 people headed out to Kenya, visiting Soweto Academy in Kibera and then Education For Life in Mombasa. The team supported both schools by decorating classrooms. However they also saw and met more needs whilst they were there including repairing a water pump, visiting families in the local communities and giving out donations, fixing broken benches, providing some children’s activities and encouraging the amazing work that is happening. The whole church community got involved with fundraising and giving ahead of the trip.
## **CARE HOME VISITS**
Each month a team of volunteers head into local care homes to put on a service. They sing hymns and share the Bible with the residents as well as enjoying time chatting to them. At Christmas we were able to gift presents to all those in the home who have no visitors during the year.
## **ROMANIA**
17 people visited Caminul Felix in Romania in May 2025. Whilst they were there they worked on three hourses that will be used by children who have been through the orphanage. They also spent lots of time in the children's homes,, playing games with the kids and encouraging the house parents. We were funded by The Norman Whiteley Trust and Hallowford as well as doing lots of fundrasing activities and from the generous giving of the church and community.
## Sundays & Church Events NOW CHURCH
- Our church has had a busy year too, with Sunday attendance growing at Langold, seeing a particular rise in families attending and lots of growth in our Now Kids programs.
- We held baptisms at Easter and took great pleasure in seeing people fully commit to God. Our Sunday preaches have included: I’m A Disciple, Journey To The Cross, Make Yourself At Home, Christian-ish, Little Letters and Sayings.
- We’ve tried to give more responsibilities and opportunities to young people and have loved seeing them lead services, preach and get involved in all our teams. We also ran a leadership development night.
- We restructured the way we gather at Woodhouse to focus more on community, with us sitting round tables, doing courses and enjoying fellowship together.
- Throughout the year we’ve had some extra special gatherings, including our Easter Gathering, Youth Take-over, Christmas Gathering and our Carols By Candlielight service. We ran several ‘Shine Your Light’ groups for our ladies, where they could grow, pray and be discipled together.
- We’ve seen new team members join lots of our teams, bringing a new mix of talents and gifts to what we are doing.
- Our pastoral care team have met with lots of people, giving guidance, support and a listening ear during people’s harder times in life.
- Discussion groups have continued to operate as part our Sunday Gatherings, helping people to ask questions and learn together. These groups are a key part of our discipleship strategy .

# WE THANK YOU FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT WITH ALL WE DO
## CHALLENGES & areas for growth
Although we’ve seen loads of great stuff happen in 2025 and are incredibly proud of our team and all they’ve done, we’ve also had some struggles along the way.
- With some volunteers moving on or having to step down we have struggled to provide the same activities and have had to put extra weight on other volunteers and staff. People often say that it seems like we don’t need any more help as our events are so well run, but unfortunately they don’t see the hard work of our team that could easily be lightened by the addition of a few more good quality and committed volunteers.
- Like many charites, we’ve found it harder to access funding for what we do and haven’t been able to expand in as many ways as we would have hoped because of this.
- Both of our buildings need some major repairs on them which is going to cost the charity a lot of money. Our Woodhouse building needs roof repairs and work on the outside, whilst our Langold building also needs roof repiairs, rendering and repointing.
- Our vision to duplicate what we do into Worksop is still strong, but another year has passed where we still haven’t been able to find a suitable building for this work.
- Some of our department heads have been through major personal challenges this year and understandably have had to step back from some of things that they would usually have done.
## LOOKINGAhead
## As we move into 2026 we want to:
## **Strengthen our financial position**
2025 was a difficult year for many charities, with many noting that the amount of funding that they received had gone down. This was true for Now Church. As we complete our charity merger and move to our new CIO model we believe we are in a stronger position to attract more funding for the excellent work we do. We are also working hard at connecting and partnering with other charities which will help to put us into a stronger position.
## **Expand into other locations**
We believe that we are really making a differnce in people’s lives and seeing communities change, and it is our passion to expand this work into other areas too. Due to generous donations we have a healthy amount of money to start to do this. We want to remain focused on ex-mining areas and we believe the next place for us to move into is Worksop.
## **Restructure campus leadership**
As we beging to expand we have to take an honest look at our leadership structures to ensure that they will still serve the church and charity well as we change. We want to recruit more volunteer leaders to lead each site so that our staff and support team can then resource a wider amount of people.
## **Complete CIO charity transfer**
This has been ongoing for a number of years now and we have faced more delays than we anticipated. However, we are hopeful that in 2026 both of our old charities will close down with all of the assests moved over to our new CIO.
## **Have a fresh look at our SEN provision**
With more children with SEN needs coming to our Now Kids activities we need to take a fresh look at how we best serve these children and their families within the constraints that we have (building, team and finance).
## FINANCE
The Trustees have reviewed the financial performance of the charity for the year ended 31 December 2025. An annual budget is set at the beginning of each financial year, with actual performance monitored against this budget on a termly basis by the Trustees. This approach enables timely oversight of income and expenditure and supports effective financial control and reserves management.
In the prior financial year, the charity reported a surplus of approximately £146,341.46. This is largely because previous financial reserves from the old charity were transferred into our new charity account, whilst wages were still being paid from the old charity. During the year ending 31 December 2025, the charity reported a surplus of approximately £62,662.27. This was primarily due to a wages still coming out of the old charity and money being moved between them. The Trustees believe the charity is appropriately positioned to meet its ongoing liabilities. The Trustees are confident that, subject to income being realised in line with forecasts, the charity will be able to operate within its available resources and cover its costs during the 2026 financial year.
As of 31 December 2025, the charity held total reserves of £209,003.73, of which £51,713.65 was restricted, and £134,442.60 was designated for specific projects. Free reserves, being unrestricted funds less fixed assets, were £22,847.48. The Trustees are satisfied that the current level of free reserves meets the charity’s reserves policy and provides a stable foundation for future growth.
## RESERVES
The Now Church reserves policy forms part of our financial procedure manual and is reviewed annually by the Trustees. Reserves are the portion of the charity’s unrestricted funds that are freely available to spend on any of the charity’s purposes. Our reserves policy ensures that the charity maintains sufficient free reserves to support ongoing operations and manage financial risks.
The purposes of our reserves are: To provide a level of working capital that ensures the continuity of our core activities; To provide funding for unexpected opportunities that align with the charity’s objectives; To cover risks such as unforeseen expenditure or unanticipated loss of income.
The Trustees regularly review these criteria in line with its strategic plan and annual objectives. Based on this review, the Trustees determine the target level of free reserves required to safeguard the charity’s financial stability.
From time to time, the Trustees may designate funds from free reserves to cover significant project costs or the replacement of major assets. Now Church aims to maintain free reserves equivalent to 3-6 months of operating expenditure to ensure financial resilience and continuity of our charitable work.

## **Respective Responsibilities of Trustees and Examiner**
The charity’s trustees consider that an audit is not required for this year (under section 43(2) of the the Charities Act 1993 (the Act) and that an independent examination is needed.
It is my responsibility to:
- examine the accounts (under section 43 of the Act)
- to follow the procedure laid down in the General Directions given by the Charity Commission (under section 43(7)(b) of the Act), and
- to state whether particular matters have come to my attention.
## **Basis of independent examiner’s statement**
My examination was carried out in accordance with General Directions given by the Charity Commissioners. An examination includes a review of the accounting records kept by the charity and a comparison of the accounts presented with those records. It also includes consideration of any unusual items or disclosures in the accounts, and seeking explanation from the trustees concerning any such matters. The procedures undertaken do not provide all the evidence that would be required in an audit, and consequently I do not express an audit opinion on the accounts.

In the course of my examination, no matter has come to my attention
- 1) which gives me reasonable cause to believe that in, any material respect, the trustees have not met the requirements to ensure that:
- proper accounting records are kept (in accordance with section 41 of the Act); and accounts are prepared which agree with the accounting records and comply with the accounting requirements of the Act; or
- 2) to which, in my option, attention should be drawn in order to enable a proper understanding of the accounts to be reached.
