## **Objectives and Activities**
## **Summary of Objectives**
Our charity objectives are:
THE OBJECT OF THE CIO IS: TO ADVANCE, IMPROVE, DEVELOP AND MAINTAIN PUBLIC EDUCATION IN, AND APPRECIATION OF, THE ART AND SCIENCE OF MUSIC IN ALL ITS ASPECTS BY ANY MEANS THE TRUSTEES SEE FIT, INCLUDING THROUGH THE PRESENTATION OF PUBLIC EVENTS.
We achieve this through the management of a brass band which entertains and informs the public and provides a musical experience for people of all ages, incomes and levels of competence. The charity provides instruments, music, uniforms, conductors and rehearsal facilities. The band strives for musical excellence and enjoyment, and supports the local community.
## **Summary of Activities**
In planning our activities for the year, we kept in mind the Charity Commission’s guidance on public benefit, so our activities fall into 4 broad groupings.
- Providing a musical experience for audiences by performing in public and private concerts. We also use these performances to raise some of the money we need to fund the charity,
- Providing a musical experience for players through regular rehearsals, directed by an experienced conductor, using suitable music, and by providing instruments on loan where necessary,
- Striving for excellence though contests,
- Supporting other charities and/or the local community by playing at their events.
## **Achievements**
Rehearsals occurred most Tuesday and Thursday evenings, with a short summer break **Rehearsals** in August. _**Buxton Contest (Sun 4[th] May 2025)**_ **Contests** Result: 3[rd] Place Music: Purcell Variations **Whit Friday (** _**13th June 2025)**_ Result: Completed six contests in Saddleworth Denshaw: 4[th] overall out of 55 bands First in 2[nd] Section: Lees and Lydgate Music: Mephistopheles and Baggy Trousers _**Rochdale Contest (18[th] October 2025)**_ Result: 1[st] in Second Section, Cornet Soloist Prize Music: Lions of Legends **Northwest Regional Area Championships (** _**1[st] March 2026)**_ Result: 20000 Leagues Under the Sea Music: 17[th] out of 19

## **Financial Review**
We started the year with £13404 and finished it with £17223, an increase of £3819.
We have a reserves policy of £5000. This is enough to run the band and the bandroom for one year in “tickover mode” (i.e. 26 rehearsals, the area contest and minimal bandroom costs) if we are unable to raise funds.
We have a commitment to spend £6000 on a new bass trombone.
Thus the available balance on 31.3.26 is £6223. This is quite a heathy balance. However, next year we are unlikely to receive another donation of £2500, and we will have around £1500 in bandroom expenses so the balance is likely to reduce.
Our income, totalling £13817, came from

- Friends and other supporter donations: £3010 (including one unusual donation of £2500)
- Income (Concerts & Prizes): £6491
