Achievements and Performance

Summary of the main achievements of the charity, identifying the difference the charity’s work has made to the circumstances of its beneficiaries and any wider benefits to society as a whole.	Para 1.20	The charity provides six concerts between September and March every year. This ensures that members and the wider public are able to enjoy music which would not otherwise be available in Carlisle.

Achievements against objectives set	Para 1.41	The age range of the audience ranged from teenagers to Octogenarians and the standard of singing and playing was unwaveringly high throughout the series. Excellent programme notes were published for each concert and the printed programmes were given out free so that everyone could learn about the music being played and sung. In fact members were able to be educated about the forthcoming concerts by receiving a digital programme in advance. A wide variety of music was performed with pieces from the baroque era to the present day with works for recorder, oboe, cello, violin, piano, flute and soprano.

Financial Review
Review of the charity’s financial position at the end of the period	Para 1.21	Income exceeded expenditure by £4,852 leading to an increase in reserves. This was largely due to an unexpected fall in costs which is unlikely to be repeated.
Statement explaining the policy for holding reserves stating why they are held	Para 1.22	Reserves are held mainly to support future expenditure on renewing the Charity’s piano. In addition, reserves are kept to ensure that unexpected expenditure can be met. A sinking fund is maintained in order to be able to repair and/or replace the Charity’s piano which current stands at £21,103. Trustees decide the extent to which this needs to be increased from current income.

The charity’s principal sources of funds (including any fundraising)	Para 1.47	In 2024-25 about 76% of funding came from subscriptions and ticket sales for individual concerts. Other funds were received from a grant from the Ida Carroll Trust, income from hiring out the piano and support from the Countess of Munster Trust.
A description of the principal risks facing the charity	Para 1.46	The main risk would be the destruction, or theft, of the piano.
