The Legacy Program Philippines is a youth led non-profit operating in the UK and the Philippines. Legacy is a program built on the belief that education can transform lives and uplift communities. At the heart of what we do are our scholarships and developmental workshops. We work closely with two schools in Bambang, Los Baños to help senior high school students develop critical thinking, active listening, and curiosity. We also bridge opportunities with students through our Legacy Award. Students who complete the program become eligible for our Legacy Award, given to those who consistently excel at each workshop. These scholarships are tailored to provide each student with the support they need to reach their academic goals and succeed at university.

This year, we have achieved a major milestone in completing a cycle of our developmental workshops. Starting in October 2024, we have supported 36 students and have identified 6 scholarship recipients. These 6 students have demonstrated our core values (Community, Resilience, Ambition, Determination, Leadership, Empowerment), regular attendance, active participation, and dedication to the programme.

There has been a lot of evaluation regarding the efficacy of the workshops and we’re excited to put together a more robust curriculum to come. We are continuing our fundraising efforts, manifest mainly as small scale community events, to support our students financially as they enter university. We are yet to award the scholarship amounts to our students and it will be given for the academic year starting 2026.

2024 saw us take on new challenge literally. Our team launched the Legacy Coast2Coast Challenge, a collective effort to cover over l.OOOkm through swimming. running, and cycling. Fundraising

The Legacy Program Philippines’ income has come from our generous UK community. We have come together for events that connect the people of the UK to our cause in the Philippines.

Key Fundraising Events

Student-led Partnered Events

From 2023 onwards, the Legacy Program has partnered with several Filipino Societies across the United Kingdom to host a variety of events. All our community fundraising events align with our core values, specifically Community and Empowerment, to create a space not only where people can have fun but learn about the social realities of the Philippines.

We are proud to have been selected as the charity of choice for the 2024 FilSoc Gala, a collaboration between 10 university Filipino societies. The work we do would not be possible without the help of the Filipino student community. Dedicated to celebrating Filipino youth and community strength, the event was fully planned and executed by Filipino students as they donated £1,000 (₱73,500) in support of the Legacy Program.

Another notable event was the Intersociety SportsFest, hosted in June 2023. This event brought together multiple Filipino societies from various regions to compete in basketball, volleyball, and dodgeball. The aim was to promote healthy competition while fostering new connections among students. The SportsFest raised £1,000 (₱73,500) for future Legacy Program initiatives.

When Legacy first started, we raised money through impromptu social gatheringsgathering for Filipino societies, such as karaoke nights, potlucks, and movie nights. These events were an opportunity to bring people together and hang out outside of a busy academic calendar. These informal events raised a combined total of £421 (₱31,000).

Coast2Coast 2024 Challenge

The members of the Legacy team are committed to supporting students in the Philippines. To show our dedication to our mission, every member of the team was challenged to fundraise and collectively cover a distance of 1,000 kilometres — approximately the length of the United Kingdom — through walking, running, swimming, or cycling. This campaign was a tremendous success, raising £2,383 (₱175,500) for our cause.

Brigada Eskwela 2024

Brigada Eskwela is a nationwide school maintenance initiative in the Philippines that prepares public schools for the new academic year. It fosters bayanihan, the spirit of community and civic unity. Through this campaign, we raised £410 (₱30,200) to support schools in need.

During this time, Typhoon Carina struck the Philippines. From the funds raised, £50 (₱3,600) was donated to Tulong Kabataan to assist victims of the typhoon, while the remaining funds were allocated to partner schools for clean-up efforts ahead of the academic year.

These funds will help us meet our goal of alleviating the financial burden of tertiary education in the Philippines through scholarships and bursaries for deserving students. In the coming year, we will be diversifying our income stream to include Trusts Fundraising and more regular individual giving.
