## **Structure, governance and management** 

Wadi Howar Coventry Association is a **Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO)** established on **19 February 2024** . 

It is governed by a **constitution registered with the Charity Commission** (CIO – Association model). The trustees are appointed in accordance with the provisions of the constitution. 

The trustees have had regard to the Charity Commission’s guidance on **public benefit** in exercising their powers and duties. 

## **Objectives and activities** 

The charity’s **objects** are: 

To advance education, promote community cohesion, and support the social and cultural welfare of the Sudanese and wider African communities in Coventry and surrounding areas through educational, cultural, and youth development activities. 

During the year the charity: 

- Organised community gatherings and cultural events promoting inclusion and heritage awareness. 

- Supported young people through mentoring, English language assistance, and educational workshops. 



- Collaborated with local organisations and Coventry City Council community engagement projects. 

The trustees confirm that these activities directly contribute to the charity’s aims and demonstrate **public benefit** . 

## **Achievements and performance** 

In its first year, Wadi Howar Coventry Association successfully: 

- Established its operational base in Coventry and recruited community volunteers. 

- Delivered community support sessions benefiting over 60 participants. 

- Strengthened partnerships with local voluntary organisations and community centres. 

- Received £4,500 in donations and small grants to support its activities. 

The trustees are encouraged by the positive community feedback and engagement achieved during this initial period. 

## **Financial review** 

- **Total income:** £4,500 

- **Total expenditure:** £1,100 

- **Net funds carried forward:** £3,400 

The charity’s income was primarily derived from donations, fundraising events, and local community grants. 

Expenditure was mainly related to event costs, educational materials, and basic administrative expenses. 

No trustee received remuneration or other benefits from the charity. 

The trustees maintain a policy of holding sufficient reserves to meet at least three months of operating costs. 

## **Reserves policy** 

The trustees have considered the level of reserves appropriate to the charity’s needs. Given its early stage of development, a small working reserve is maintained to ensure stability and meet any unforeseen expenditure. 

## **Plans for future periods** 

In the next financial year, the trustees plan to: 

- Expand youth support and cultural education programmes. 

- Seek local authority funding and community grants. 



- Strengthen governance and volunteer training. 

- Develop a small community centre space for events and educational workshops. 

## **Independent examination** 

As the charity’s income is below the audit threshold, the accounts will be subject to an **independent examination** in accordance with **Charity Commission guidance CC32** .

The trustees are responsible for preparing the Trustees’ Annual Report and the accounts in accordance with applicable law and the Charity Commission’s requirements. They confirm that:
