## **Objectives and Activities** 

The Friends of Herts & Essex Charitable Objectives are: 

_The advancement of amateur sport in Bishop’s Stortford and the surrounding area for children and young people for the public benefit by providing grant funding and support to Herts & Essex Sports Centre and its stakeholders so that children and young people can access sports facilities, equipment and coaching in outdoor and indoor sports which promote health by involving physical or mental skill or exertion._ 

In fulfilling our charitable objectives, the Friends of Herts & Essex’s main activity during the year was providing refreshments at sports events hosted by the sports centre. 

The Trustees take into account the commission’s public benefit guidance when making any relevant decision. 

## **Achievements and Performance** 

During the six months covered by this report the Friends of Herts & Essex Sports Centre set up and started to raise its profile within the community. We have been able to give donations to support children and young people to access facilities to play sport as well as purchase equipment to play sport with **.** 

## **Financial Review** 

These accounts have been split into pre-registration (15 July 2023 to 18 February 2024) and postregistration (19 February 2024 – 31 August 2024) periods. 

Receipts in the year ended August 2024 were £27,561. Income is from individuals and community groups. Trustees continue to be humbled by the local community’s response to the need for our services. 

Expenditure was £48,644 which included grants made of £31,000 to support our local community and deliver the charity’s aims of providing facilities for all people to be active. 

Overall, the year to August 2024 saw net expenditure of just over £21,000 with reserves at 31 August 2024 standing at £1,526.00.

## **Structure, Governance and Management** 

The Friends of Herts & Essex Sports Centre has been formed as a CIO under a constitution document and is governed by a board of trustees who hold formal meetings as required. Trustees (“officers”) are members of the Sports Centre Community, who are appointed by membership annually at the AGM. 

The trustees have appointed a Chair. New trustees are appointed by the existing trustees under the terms of the constitution and are appointed on the basis of their background, interests, experience and expertise, as well as their commitment to the Sports Centre, its values and charitable objectives. New trustees receive an informal induction including meeting with the Chair and other Trustees. 

Trustees attend meetings and may work in sub-groups set up to consider specific areas of policy/strategy. As we are a small charity with limited resources. Trustees also assist directly by contributing to a number of operational and promotional activities in line with their skills and experience.

I report to the trustees on my examination of the accounts of the above charity (“the Trust”) for the year ended 31/08/2023. 

**Responsibilities and basis of report** 

As the charity's trustees, you are responsible for the preparation of the accounts in accordance with the requirements of the Charities Act 2011 (“the Act”). 

I report in respect of my examination of the Trust’s accounts carried out under section 145 of the 2011 Act and in carrying out my examination, I have followed all the applicable Directions given by the Charity Commission under section 145(5)(b) of the Act. 

**Independent** I have completed my examination.  I confirm that no material matters have **examiner's statement** come to my attention in connection with the examination which gives me cause to believe that in, any material respect: 

- the accounting records were not kept in accordance with section 130 of the Charities Act; or 

- the accounts did not accord with the accounting records; or 

- the accounts did not comply with the applicable requirements concerning the form and content of accounts set out in the Charities (Accounts and Reports) Regulations 2008 other than any requirement that the accounts give a ‘true and fair’ view which is not a matter considered as part of an independent examination.
