The Trustees who held office during the year were: G J Sinnerton (Chair) A Rutatina (appointed 18 April 2024) H S Sinnerton N A Plummer (appointed 15 March 2024) H J Pugh L H Plummer (appointed 15 March 2024) M S Sinnerton ## **Structure, Governance and Management** The charity operates as a Charitable Incorporated Organisation governed by model constitution and was registered as a charity on 15 February 2004. In setting the objects of the charity and planning its activities, the trustees confirm that they have given due consideration to the guidance on public benefit published by the Charity Commission. Apart from the first charity trustees, every trustee must be appointed for a term of two years by a resolution passed at a properly convened meeting of the charity trustees. In selecting individuals for appointment, the charity trustees must have regard to the skills, knowledge and experience needed for the effective administration of the CIO. The founding trustees shall be entitled, subject to compliance with the terms of this constitution and the laws of England and Wales, to appoint up to three charity trustees at any time. New trustees serve for a period of 2 years, after which they may put themselves forward for reappointment. The constitution provides for a minimum of 3 trustees and a maximum of 8 trustees. ## **Objects and Activities** To advance the education of the pupils at the Bwindi Community kindergarten and primary school, and to advance the education of children in south-west Uganda by providing, and assisting in the provision and maintenance of, facilities to include school equipment, enhanced nutrition and access to medical care. The Charity has created a social media and internet presence, and the charity trustees have found donors from personal contacts, both private individuals and businesses. The funds received have been utilised for the public benefit in providing education and nutrition to the disadvantaged young children in Bwindi to include funding school meals, provision of additional teaching and the preliminary steps to enable the construction of a new school classroom in early 2025. The charity’s trustees have complied with their duty under section 17 (5) of the Charities Act 2011. As such the trustees can confirm that they have read, understood and complied with the Charity Commission’s statutory public benefit guidance ensuring that our Charity’s work benefits the public in line with the guidance and in making decisions and carrying out our activities the guidance is considered at all times. Page 2 **Trustees' Annual Report for the period ended 31 December 2024** _…..............Continued_ ## **The Bwindi Education and Wellbeing Charity** ## **Achievements and Performance** In our first year of operation, our charity’s achievements have been to provide free school meals for the young disadvantaged children; to give financial support to teachers to enable them to provide enhanced educational services, and to put into motion the steps needed to expand the provision of education to disadvantaged 9 year old children by agreeing to fund the construction of a new school classroom in early 2025. ## **Financial Review** The charity’s financial position is supported by donors committed to regular monthly donations on a long term basis. We hold, in unrestricted funds, reserves to cover 2 months operation of the charity. At the end of the financial period total reserves were £1,225. In 2025 we will target holding a larger sum on unrestricted reserves for specific projects such as the construction of new school buildings and medical insurance cover for all pupils. No trustee receives any remuneration and all willingly cover their own expenses.
