## **Annual Report for 2024 AGM Trustees of Old Chapel (Unitarian) Great Hucklow** We have had a busy and successful year, including becoming registered as a CIO in February 2024 (Registered Charity Number: 1207045). **Trustees:** We were greatly saddened by the death of Roger Newton in April 2024. Roger had been our Treasurer since the previous AGM and has left a large hole in our small community. Luke Povey tendered his resignation as a Trustee in September 2024, and we thank him for his hard work over a number of years. We were pleased to welcome Tim Baker to the Trustees and hope to expand the membership further at this AGM. I extend my grateful thanks to Ed for his inspiration and dedication as Lay Leader and to our fellow Trustees for their support in ensuring the Chapel continues to thrive. **Worship:** We have held services on the first Sunday of every month, opting to have services at 11am from April to September, and at 2pm from October to March. The congregation is often small, but is frequently expanded by visitors from the Nightingale Centre. We have had large gatherings for the FOY Society 100[th] Anniversary and the Music Society. The Chapel remains a welcoming and inclusive environment to nurture the spirit. **Chapel Activities:** The Armistice Service in November 2023 was a moving experience, attended by the Lord Lieutenant of Derbyshire and several local Councillors, along with members of the congregation, villagers and schoolchildren. The Carol Service in December was led by Ministry Students from Unitarian College, Manchester, as has become tradition. The service was well attended and enjoyed by all. Activities at Easter included distribution of hot cross buns to residents of Hucklow and neighbouring villages, and an Easter Egg hunt and quiz for the FOY Society, who were welcomed for their 100[th] Anniversary, and local community. The new Chapel banner was completed in time to be included in the parade at the GA Annual Meeting. We received the report of the Quinquennial Survey, carried out in September 2023, just over a year after the inspection, and were reassured that no major structural work is needed to maintain the buildings. We have arranged for internet provision and this will be activated soon. The Chapel continues to collect teddies for children attending Send a Child to Hucklow (SACH) holidays at the Nightingale Centre and they remain a source of joy. **Chapel Grounds:** The peace pole continues to demonstrate our pledge to work towards a peaceful future, in the face of ongoing worldwide conflict. The grounds are well maintained by James Warriner and our thanks go to him for the sensitive way in which he tends the grassed areas, but also for repairing the wall and turning the gravestone that had been toppled over during the tornado. Two trees were removed following tornado damage, but left with tall stumps. James has constructed a bench between the stumps, which has been dedicated to Mark Vallance with a small plaque. We held a garden party for members and friends of the Chapel in October, and invited visitors to enjoy the view from the bench. **Community Activities:** The Chapel has hosted a number of busy local events, including a Cream Tea event, which was held in glorious sunshine and raised money for SACH. There was also a successful Makers Market, allowing many local craftspeople to display their skills and sell their products. A tea and cakes afternoon brought together many older residents from the village and the Chapel was open during the National Garden event in August, which brought visitors to the Nightingale Centre. The Chapel also hosted the Children’s Well Dressing again, and we were grateful to Rev. Stephanie Bisby for attending to bless the wells on behalf of the Chapel. **Accounts:** The Chapel is in a sustainable financial position, but we must remain mindful to explore sources of income, to allow us to pursue the projects that keep the Chapel vibrant and alive.
