Objectives and Activiti88
We work with greyhound industry tralners to take dogs that are retlr8d or unable to race so that
we can re home them Into permanent homes. We also work with local councils to take Sighthound
specific dogs from council pounds to provide vet treatment, if necessary and eventually re home
to permanent homes wherever possible. The current number of stray and unwanted dogs has also
resulted in us working with Animal Haven, an animal rescue service in the Republi¢ of Ireland, to
take Sighthounds that they do not have room for, in order to re home these dogs irrto homes in
the UK.
All dogs are taken into a kennel environment, assessed for health and behavioural issues, given
vet treatment for any health conditions, neutered or spayed, rf necessary. chipped and given 24-
hour care and attention. Dogs are put up for adoption when they are hea￿hy9 and their behaviour
has been assessed to ensure they are suitable for re-homing.
Potential adopters have an initial telephone conversation to assess their needs and suitability to
adopt a dog. A thorough home check is carried out, together with a visit to the rescue to meet the
potential dog.

SOUTHERN SIGHTHOUND RESCUE
TrUSTEE' REPORT (Continued)
Once all parties are satisfied that the adoption is ready lo go ahead, the new owners visit the
rescue to collect the dog and relevant paperwork. Follow up support is available to the adopters
for the Ilfe of the animal as well as b8havioural advice. We also provide online guidance through a
Facebook page on responsible dog ownership and how to care for a Sighthound.
The charity is committed to providing the best veterinary care and also provides a support
network for the dogs bolh whilst Ihe charity's care and also once they have been re homed in
places which can provid8 commitment and nurturing as required. The charlty takes pride in
ensuring that all dogs wlll enjoy a happy home life by educating adopters and the wider public on
how to understand and care for the hounds.
By taking in stray and unwanted dogs, providing rnedical treatment and training with a view to re-
homing them. the charity is encouraging kindness in humans. We are benefitting the general
public and local Council Authorities as unwanted dogs ar8 taken into a safe environment which
alleviates the risk of them becoming strays and stray dogs are also re homed. All of the animals
are given m8dlcal care and a safe and happy environment whilst In our care and the general
publlc who fehome these dogs hav6 the sati8factlon of giving a new lrfe to a dog whilst also
recelvlng the heatth and wellbeing b8n8fits of owning a dog.
Achl8vements and Performance
The maln criteria used to a88688 the Succ888 of the charlty'$ aGtivities Is the number of dogs
rescued, brought back to full health and re homed. In the 2024 flnancial period, we rescued and
rehabilitat6d 96 dogs into their forever homes.
We gulde adopters through from the very start of the joumey wlth their new dog, ensuring
veterinary interventions when required and addressing any behavloural issues, through either the
exp8ri8nce of our CEO and re-homing team or by helplng to source a local behaviourist.
Voluntaer8
We have recruited and retained over 40 volunteers who receive health, welfare and social benefits
through thelr volunteer role. The malorlty of our volunteers carry oul regular dog walks but also
carry out fundraising, administration, rehoming and domestlc support.
In addition to providing dally walks, the role of the dog walklng volunteer is to give the dogs an
opportunity to socialise safely in an ènvironment that is strang6 to them and to allow th8
volunteers to assess the b8haviour of the dogs, both when on their own and with other dogs. This
ensures that we can fully assess their needs and that their adoption profiles are accurate to
enable thom to be matched wf(h the right family.
In agreeing to help walk Southern Sighthound Rescue dogs as a volunteer dog walker, the
following points are essential..
Dog walkers must listen to the advice of the rescue and how a specrfic dog must ba
walked and must adhere to that advice
Volunteers to be aware that when walking a rescue dog that they are also representing
the rescue and must walk the dog in an appropriate manner so as not to bring concern
or disrepLrt8 to the rescue
