Galleywood Men’s Shed (GMS) acknowledges and thanks the Essex Shed Network (ESN) for their continued support and assistance over the past year.
Following last year’s unsuccessful attempt to secure a site, we were encouraged to learn that ESN identified an alternative potential site with an organisation aligned to the aims and ethos of the Men’s Shed movement.
A site meeting was held with the organisation to discuss the proposed layout and operational footprint of the Shed.
A key constraint identified is the lack of a direct electricity supply. ESN has ‑ reviewed comparable off grid Shed operations across Essex and determined that generator use would be unsuitable due to potential disturbance to neighbouring properties. A solar-powered solution, mounted on the container structure, has been identified as the preferred approach.
GMS and the prospective site provider are currently in negotiation regarding terms of agreement.
In the absence of a fully executed agreement, the trustees have agreed that it would be premature to proceed with a planning application.
While the trustees remain committed to delivering the project, the delay in securing a confirmed site presents a significant risk. This opportunity is considered the final viable option currently available in the locality. GMS continues to work closely with ESN to secure a positive outcome and establish the Shed as a sustainable community resource.
GMS was pleased to receive a generous donation from the Older Peoples Research Group Essex (OPRGE), who identified our organisation via the Charity Commission. The trustees formally acknowledge and thank OPRGE for their support.
