Trustee statement
The trustees acknowledge their responsibilities for complying with the requirements of guidance issued by the Charity Commission on public benefit by ensuring that all of Pam Common Art Collective’s activities and initiatives are clearly directed towards the advancement of art, culture, and community engagement for the benefit of the public.
As a community arts organisation, Pam Common Art Collective is committed to providing inclusive, accessible, and creative opportunities that enable individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds to engage with the arts. The trustees regularly review the organisation’s aims, activities, and outcomes to ensure that they align with the charity’s objectives and continue to deliver tangible public benefit.
In practice, this includes supporting projects that encourage participation in artistic activities, fostering collaboration between artists and local residents, and contributing to the social, cultural, and environmental wellbeing of the Roath community and beyond. The trustees also ensure that resources are used efficiently and transparently, and that any private benefit arising from our work is incidental and necessary to achieving our charitable purposes.
Report Summary
Feasibility study
During this time period Pam Common Art Collective was awarded £25000 towards the production of a feasibility report around the potential purchase of Braeval Street Studios. In order to complete this work two tenders were published, one for a business consultant and one for an architect. Nissan Richards Architects and Sequoia were appointed and are continuing the process, which is near completion.
Projects and programmes
General programme
The general Pam Common Art Collective programme works with the local community and artists across the year. In Sept 2024 - Sept 2025 this included Solstice Radio with Shortwave Collective, the Pam Summer Closed Road, the Pam Open exhibition, Saturday Morning Sewing, Climate Cooks, a library residency, and an artist residency at Braeval Street Studios.
Solstice Radio is an annual event commissioning new audio work around the theme of the Solstice. For Summer each year Pam Common Art Collective works with an artist, or
collaboration, to bring together the works, and broadcast these out over a 24 hour period (dawn to dawn) for the wider public to experience. For this year Solstice Radio we collaborated with Shortwave Collective an international feminist group who use radio as a creative medium. This was a hugely successful 24 hour long event with newly commissioned audio from the artists including Cwilt and Healing Project groups.
The Pam Summer Closed Road was successful in fostering new community connections through face-to-face, hands-on activities, and created a space for people to gather and be creative. To further this aim we planned a series of community based workshops, alongside the large street based event held in the summer, with more workshops and a sharing event at the end of the project to celebrate all the work that had happened.
The Open Exhibition is a platform for local, emerging, and established artists to exhibit, emphasising inclusivity and connection in the Welsh art scene. In 2025 this included the work of 100 artists and collectives.
The Residency Programme offers artists space and support, to develop new work, focusing on community engagement, exploring local history, and creating diverse art like printmaking, performance, and moving image. In 2024/5 this created space for one library residency, exploring and unearthing the Pam book collection, and one artist residency linking the story of Talisen with the Solstice.
Chatterbox
Chatterbox is a monthly session that Pam Common Art Collective hosts for local muslim women artists where people meet other artists from different practices, socialise, are creative and listen to invited artist speakers to talk about the journey they have taken in the creative sector. Artists have time to engage in discussions as well.
Aims
To provide a space for Muslim Women Artists to talk, connect and meet other Muslim artists in order to inspire them to develop areas within their practice and provide artists with opportunities such as residencies or workshops to help them get on their feet. It creates a space so that women can have discussions about their practices that may lead to new ideas within their practice.
Objectives:
To achieve this, Chatterbox hosts sessions with guest speakers

Sharing creative opportunities
Support artists who want to run public workshops
Supporting artists when applying for commissions
Respond to new ideas artists want to explore by providing them with any support they require Create space for skill sharing amongst the group
The Healing Project
The Healing Project is a key project within the Pam Common Art Collective programme. Initiated in November 2023 through a collaborative quilt, the group came together to stitch text and embroidered patterns responding to the plight of Palestinian people. In 2024/5 The Healing Project continued as a unique Muslim women led creative space, with discussion and developing socially active creative responses to global conflict.
The programme included Sharing Together, and Arts Council Wales networking project for Muslim Women Artists in Swansea, Cardiff and Newport. This included the creation of a new whatsapp group, bringing together artists from the three areas, and four in-person networking events. The Healing Project also took part in the Now in a Minute Halal Food Expo.
New for this time period the Healing Project worked with a writer and photographer to create artist profiles for the Pam website, and also to be shared on social media. This created three new artist profiles, with more to be posted in the coming months.
Climate Cooks
Climate Cooks is a project around cooking and eating together, sharing recipes, talking, and thinking about where our food comes from and how we feed ourselves and our families. The group members are made up of women with lived experience of the asylum system. Pam Common Art Collective and Climate Cooks have been meeting now for over two years, but most recently have been getting out more into the community thanks to our electric bike / fold out kitchen.
In Sept 2024 - Sept 2025 Pam Common Art Collective / Climate Cooks published a cookbook in collaboration with Biscuits Press, hosted six sharing events at Spit and Sawdust, Roath Farmers Market, Artes Mundi, The Trinity Center, Glitter Cymru and Chapter Arts Center, hosted one iftar, took part in Solstice Radio through creating special snacks and sweet treats, and took part in development work with consultant Beloved Adonai. This work was largely funded through SPF / UK Government.
Braeval Street Community Darkroom is a volunteer-run community darkroom hosted by Pam Common Art Collective at Breaval Street Studios. In this time period the group ran two introduction to darkroom skills’ sessions and three self-run printing sessions, as well as demonstrating Cyanotype printing at the Solstice Radio sharing event.
Braeval Street Sound Studio was developed and updated making it a more usable and accessible resource for the community.
Braeval Street Community Garden ,continued to develop, with new raised beds, growing wildlife friendly plants and vegetables, with community events and opportunities for the public to engage with the space.
Braeval Street Studios and 1a Inverness Place
Braeval Street Studios continued to host affordable artist studios, with nine long-term studio holders and one artist residency.
1a Inverness Place programme included hosting weekly meetings for Now in a Minute Media, and Muslima Outdoors, alongside Saturday Sewers. Writer Lucy Smith hosted six ‘writing circle’ events encouraging new writers.

Financial focus and performance of the charity
Within this time period Pam Common Art Collective made applications to British Council Wales, Welsh Government, WWF, Moondance Foundation, Rosa Fund, Postcode Lottery (Wales Community Fund), SPF, Immersive Arts, Heritage Lottery and Lottery Awards For All, and to Arts Council Wales through Sharing Together, Capital and the Create strand. Applications to the Welsh Government, WWF, Lottery Awards for All, and Arts Council Wales Create and Capital were successful and have enabled Pam to continue to run core projects and programmes, and to start the process of a feasibility study towards the purchase of Braeval Street Studios.
Outline of approach to Sustainability
Pam Common Art Collective believes the climate crisis is among the most significant challenges facing the world. Protecting the environment is vital for the conservation of natural resources and the continued health of our planet. Pam recognises its responsibility to protect the environment and is continually working to reduce the environmental impact of the work we undertake. We have continued to develop our community garden at Braeval Street Studios, increasing growing spaces and increasing native flora and fauna, and using sustainable growing methods.
Pam Common Art Collective rely on grant funding & project support and have historically accessed grant funding from external sources, such as local and national arts funding bodies and community grant schemes. Pam Common Art Collective is committed to developing relationships with new funders as well as developing new income strands to support our work, creating a diverse funding pool to support our work.
Objectives and Activities
The Objects of the Charity are to advance public education in the arts including visual arts, music, theatre, literature, poetry, traditional crafts, painting, sculpture and digital arts, and to extend and increase the public appreciation, knowledge and understanding of the arts in all their forms by 1) organising community events, talks, performance and exhibitions in South Wales that promote arts, education and skills development and b) promoting partnerships within the community to promote the arts
Pam Common Art Collective carry out those objectives via the following core activities:

To encourage accessibility to the arts by providing opportunities for exhibiting, creative development opportunities, residencies, accessing assets such as the community garden, artist studios and library

To work with communities that struggle to engage with the arts, whether through cultural, economic or societal reasons by working closely with third sector organisations to reach under-represented communities

To commission local, national and international artists to make new work, connecting with the local community, embedded in and reflecting on wider social issues

Future Plans
Over the next reporting period, Pam Common Art Collective plans to build on its work by strengthening community engagement, improving organisational sustainability, and expanding access to inclusive, locally rooted activities.

During this time period Pam Common Art Collective have been working with the board to strengthen policies and procedures. This includes the creation of a new environmental policy, and updated evaluation policy, Welsh language policy, and procurement policy. Future aims include new financial systems and a new reserves policy which reflects the growing nature of the organisation.
