The Trust's activities are the production and dissemination of local public interest news.

Objects: 2.1 The Charity's Objects Are For The Public Benefit To Promote Citizenship And Civic Responsibility In Guildford And Neighbouring Areas (The "Area Of Benefit") Through The Provision Of Local Public Interest News And Thereby Facilitating Informed Participation And Engagement By Members Of The Public In The Area Of Benefit, By Exclusively Charitable Means. 2.2. "Local Public Interest News" In Article 2.1 Means News And Other Information Which Is Produced And Disseminated To The Public According To High Standards Of Ethical Conduct And Best Practice In Journalism And Which Provides One Or More Of The Following Benefits To The Public In The Area Of Benefit: 2.2.1. Informs Local Members Of The Public About Matters Which Are Relevant To Their Role And Responsibilities As Citizens; 2.2.2. Enables Members Of Local Communities To Become Aware Of And Understand Matters Of Common Concern To Them And Which Promotes Their Involvement And Cooperation In Such Matters And Community Cohesion Accordingly;2.2.3. Enables Local Members Of The Public To Understand The Activities Of Public Office Holders, Engage With Them And To Participate In An Informed Manner In Relevant Democratic Processes And, As A Result, Supports The Legitimacy Of The Democratic Process As A Whole; 2.2.4. Benefits Local Members Of The Public By Promoting Charitable Educational Outcomes, Such As Improving Public Understanding Of Health And Medical Matters Or The Conservation Of The Environment 2.3 By Definition, Local Public Interest News Would Not Encompass Content, Which Is Simply Entertaining In Nature, Because That Would Not Generate Any Of The Four Benefits Identified. Nor Would IT Include Journalism Which Is Politically Motivated, Biased, Inaccurate Or Which Fails To Observe A Person’s Right To Privacy, Because These Are Not Forms Of Journalism Which Are Carried Out “According To High Standards Of Ethical Conduct And Best Practice In Journalism”, As The Definition Requires. Publication Of Incidental Items Which Do Not Qualify As Public Interest News Material Is Permissible From Time To Time Solely Where This Is Both (A) Clearly Justifiable In Terms Of Raising Funds For [Tgdn] Or As A Means Of Increasing The Public Audience, Readership And Impact Of Other, Local Public Interest News Content And (B) Remaining At All Times A Small Minority Of Content Published
