Objectives and Activities
| SORP reference | ||
|---|---|---|
| Summary of the purposes of the charity as set out in its governing document |
Para 1.17 | To advance the education of the public in all aspects of art and artistic excellence through Ivor Davies’ work, art collection and archive in particular, but not exclusively by, its exhibiting, maintaining and storing. |
| Summary of the main activities in relation to those purposes for the public benefit, in particular, the activities, projects or services identified in the accounts. |
Para 1.17 and 1.19 |
1.The Foundation’s planned bequests. Negotiations with the National Library of Wales: following on from a day of meetings, by two trustees, Ivor Davies and Helen Phillips, with the Library’s two chief curators of art, there have been ongoing clarifications about the Foundation’s planned bequests to the National Library, what these will make possible, for the benefit of both future scholars and the public, the range of practical and financial matters involved, and the timescale. On storage, a crucial question for so large a bequest, the two trustees were given a tour during their first visit of the artwork storage facilities at the Library and also information about possible future plans. 2. Retrospective exhibition. There was a preliminary visit with the Curator of the Aberystwyth University Art Centre Gallery, in preparation for a retrospective exhibition there, planned for November-December, 2025. (Because of a change of schedule for the touring Artes Mundi exhibition, 2025, this planned exhibition has been moved now to January-March 2026). 3. Ivor Davies Prize, 2024. The annual National Eisteddfod Ivor Davies Prize, of £600, was awarded in 2024, as in the past, by Ivor Davies himself. At the time of celebrations, an exhibition and |
| lecture, held at the 2023 Eisteddfod, to mark the prize’s twentieth anniversary, there had been discussion, from Eisteddfod organisers, of future eisteddfodau undertaking the cost, but Ivor Davies considered this an unrealistic burden for them. It is agreed instead that from 2025, the Prize should be awarded from the Ivor Davies Foundation, following a planned donation into the Foundation bank account from Ivor Davies. The Prize’s remit, recognising art expressing the spirit of Welsh culture and language, fits with key aims of the Foundation. 4. Archive. Further material was received from participants in 1960s art movements and events (the archive is collecting these while participants are alive and able to provide material). Three quite substantial written accounts and one recorded interview were added. Two students visited the Davies and Krikorian archives: Information about Tamara Krikorian’s 1970s work was provided to a doctoral student who has since (2025) received a PhD for a thesis centred on Krikorian’s work in relation to the history of women and television. Information was also provided, specifically about the Beca group and its history, to a student beginning work for a PhD at Bangor University on Beca. 5. Bank Account. During this period two trustees had discussions, on several occasions, with two banks about application for the Foundation’s bank account. (Subsequent discussions, late 2024 to 2025, with, thirdly, the Co- operative bank, in Cardiff and Newport, led the trustees to decide on an application for the account to be with that bank.) |
