## **BACKGROUND**

Community Development Chesterfield (CDC) was previously known as The Rother Active Youth Club (The RAY Club) which was a community group founded in 2014. Since January 2024 the community group was closed and the Charity No. 1206790 was formed. The trustees and members of Community Development Chesterfield have tried hard to continue implementing our mission statement values of The RAY Club through the core activities. The key activities and achievements during the year are noted below.

## **ACHIEVEMENTS AND PERFORMANCE**

Community Development Chesterfield (CDC) was incredibly proud to be established in 2024. Our journey began by continuing the wonderful work initiated by Cllr Jenny Flood with The RAY Club. The RAY Club operated as a school holiday program that provided the Holiday Activity and Food initiative for the Rother Ward. In October 2023, Dan and Grace took over The RAY Club from Jenny, and their primary goal was to transform it into a year-round service, as they believed that the younger community deserved a warm, safe, and healthy environment throughout the year.

Dan's first task was to secure a venue, and fortunately, Jenny—a valuable source of knowledge—had the ideal location in mind! This led them to the Umbrellas Cosy Hub. From this spot, Dan and Grace organized RAY nights every Wednesday from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM, providing a full warm meal to all participants. The initial turnout was slow, but attendance soon began to rise. As participation grew, they sought out volunteers and were pleasantly surprised by the community's support, leading to the recruitment of two volunteers to assist with RAY nights.

As 2024 arrived, CDC was officially born. Dan and Grace aspired to create a charity that would have a broad impact, and their dream came true. RAY nights continued, with a minor adjustment to Tuesday evenings from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM, which remains in effect today.

In February 2024, Dan and Grace signed the lease for the newly named CDC Cosy Hub, which became the main office and home for Community Development Chesterfield. This location provided the warm, safe, and healthy environment that many young community members now consider their home.

Following the lease signing, progress was swift, and numerous achievements unfolded. The Cosy Cubs, led by community member Johnathan, continued on Thursday mornings from 10 AM to 11 AM. Unfortunately, in the summer of 2024, The Cosy Cubs had to leave us due to the need for a larger venue, and we expressed our gratitude for their use of the building and their remarkable contributions to the community.

Amid all these significant changes, our 2024 Holiday Activity and Food (HAF) program was underway. The spring activities included bird box making, kite crafting, sports, a trip to The Deep, and much more. Summer featured 16 sessions lasting four hours each, ranging from seaside visits to crafts, enrichment, and sports. The winter was exceptionally cold, necessitating some adjustments. Unfortunately, due to the closure of one of our venues, we had to make immediate changes. Thankfully, the HAF program was a tremendous success, culminating in our annual pantomime. Special thanks go to Grace for organizing the 2024 HAF.

We were also thrilled to welcome our first employee, Charlotte Underwood, who is in charge of all administrative management for the organization and is crucial for the charity's success in 2025.

In conclusion, we must highlight that Walton Knitters and Tupton Foodbank have joined the Community Development Chesterfield family. They are now officially recognized under our umbrella as working names on the charity commission. Its important to note that follow a strict protocol for taking community groups under CDC. You can find photos of our initiatives on our website at www.cdchesterfield.com.

We look forward to continuing our journey in 2025 and beyond, with a focus on expanding our reach and impact within the Chesterfield community. Our plans include further developing partnerships with local schools and organizations to offer more diverse programs and services that cater to the needs of children, families, and individuals in the area.

We're excited to introduce new initiatives such as a community stay and play group which fills a massive gap in community services at the moment. Additionally, we aim to launch a series of workshops aimed at skill-building for both young people and adults, covering topics from digital literacy to creative arts.

Our commitment to inclusivity, safety, and support remains at the core of CDC's mission, and we are dedicated to ensuring that every member of our community feels valued and empowered. We invite everyone to join us on this exciting journey, whether as participants, volunteers, or supporters. Together, we can continue to build a brighter, more connected future for Chesterfield. Thank you for being a part of our story, and we look forward to the new chapters ahead.

## **VOLUNTEERS**

Community Development Chesterfield is a volunteer driven organization and the trustees once again wish to recognize the exceptional level of commitment of all those involved. Community Development Chesterfield is only in existence because of our volunteers. We would not be able to offer any of the activities noted in this report without them particularly – Angela Muyunda, Claire Shaw, Vicky Verity, Lisa Mckenzie, Duckmanton youth team, Tupton foodbank team and many others.

The trustees of Community Development Chesterfield thank everyone who has given their time and gifted their finance so generously in 2024.

## **REPORT**

In the year to 31[st] December 2024 Community Development Chesterfield received £73588, the largest category of giving being grant funding. £27900 was received from the local authority (Chesterfield Borough Council) and Derbyshire County Council. £33415 was received from other funders.

Payments totalled £56294, the highest spending categories being Holiday, Activity and Food at £22509 and Equipment at £9296.

We began 2024 with £7616 in the bank. At 31[st] December 2024 we recorded a surplus of receipts over payments of £17294. On 31[st] December 2024 the closing bank balance was £24910.

NOTE 1. We received £33415 in grants. The largest funder was Street Games who distributed the Holiday, Activity and Food (HAF) funding on behalf of Derbyshire County Council. We received £21439 HAF funding in 2024.

NOTE 2. Across the three active HAF periods in 2024 we spent £22509.

NOTE 3. The vehicle category includes the purchase of a vehicle in June, the insurance and fuel used.

NOTE 4. Wage payments began in November when an administration assistant was appointed. They will continue into 2025.

NOTE 5. Chesterfield Borough Council are notoriously slow to charge for the electricity used in our Cosy Hub building. The last bill received covered the period to the end of March 2023. I estimate that £1802 is owed to the council for the electricity used since the last bill to the end of December 2024. This estimate cannot be guaranteed as the calculation can only be made on last known unit rates as we are not updated on price changes.

These accounts were prepared for the Trustees of Community Development Chesterfield on 7[th] January 2025 by Eric Nicholas, Treasurer.

These accounts were approved by the Board of Trustees of Community Development Chesterfield on 8th January 2025 and signed on its behalf by Danny Henman, Chair of Trustees and Chief Executive Officer – CDC Group.
